Area police departments recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Sept. 30
Police said that during an auto accident investigation near Byron and Mill at around 12:40 a.m., Officers found Ashwani Ghai, 42, of Addison, to be driving under the influence of alcohol and driving an uninsured motor vehicle. He was arrested and charged with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and no insurance. Police said later that day, at around 6:28 p.m., Ghai was found in a vehicle that did not belong to him. He was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle.
Sept. 29
William Alonzo-Funes, 29, of Addison, was charged with DUI and also issued citations for transportation of open alcohol, improper lane usage, improper turn and no insurance near Addison and Industrial at around 9:13 p.m.
Sept. 28
Police said officers responded to a well-being check in the 800 block of Fullerton at around 2:12 p.m., and Erin Jezl, 28, of Westmont, was found to have a failure to appear warrant.
Villa Park
Sept. 29
Michael J. Jancaric, 18, of Lombard, was charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor, driving a vehicle with no headlights and no insurance near North and Michigan at around 12:40 a.m.
Criminal damage was reported in the 500 block of N. Ardmore. Police said an unknown suspect appeared to have shot a pellet or BB at the front passenger window of a vehicle traveling south on Ardmore at around 9:32 a.m.
Sept. 28
John R. Armstrong, 33, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash near St. Charles and Princeton at around 9:48 p.m.
Luis N. Lagares, 43, of Villa Park, was charged two counts of aggravated DUI, endangering the life of a child, no valid driver’s license and disobeying a stop sign near Sunset at Addison at around 3:25 p.m.
A 24-year-old Downers Grove woman was charged with two counts of domestic battery at a hotel at around 1:32 a.m.
Sept. 27
Theft was reported in the 200 block of W. Division. Police said an unknown suspect stole the rear license plate off a vehicle parked unoccupied in the parking lot sometime between 8 and 10:30 p.m.
Sept. 26
John F. Campbasso, 20, of Villa Park, was charged with battery in the 300 block of N. Addison at 4:55 p.m.
A hit-and-run was reported near Wisconsin and Washington at around 11:35 a.m. Police said an unknown suspect driving an unknown vehicle struck a stop sign, breaking the sign post, and then left the area without reporting the crash.
Sept. 24-Sept. 25
Theft was reported at a school. Police said an unknown suspect stole a pair of headphones off a desk that was inadvertently left unsecured and unattended sometime between 11:15 a.m. Sept. 24 and 11:15 a.m. Sept. 25.
Theft was reported in the 400 block of S. Ardmore. Police said an unknown suspect stole a blue rolling recycling bin from the parkway sometime between 5:30 p.m. Sept. 24 and 6:15 a.m. Sept. 25.
Sept. 16-Sept. 25
Retail theft was reported at Burlington. Police said an unknown suspect removed merchandise from the display racks and left with the items without paying sometime between 6:17 p.m. Sept. 16 and 8;17 p.m. Sept. 25.
Sept. 24
Jeffrey D. Harlan, 41, of Lombard, was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault and assault at a school at around 12:12 p.m.
Battery was reported in the 300 block of N. Yale at 12:02 a.m. Police said an unknown suspect battered a pedestrian while they walked home from work.
Sept. 23
Hugo A. Peralta, 31, of Chicago, was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia near Addison and Stone at around 5:29 p.m.
Sept. 22-Sept. 23
A stolen vehicle was reported near Kenilworth and Cortesi. Police said an unknown suspect stole a 2000 silver Toyota Camry that was parked unoccupied sometime between 11:30 p.m. Sept. 22 and 2 a.m. Sept. 23.
A stolen vehicle was reported in the 200 block of E. Kenilworth. Police said an unknown suspect stole a vehicle that was parked unsecured in a driveway sometime between 7 p.m. Sept. 22 and 5:29 a.m. Sept. 23. The vehicle was located and involved in a hit and run crash.
