Sunday, Sept. 23

From 2-4 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum presents “Rollerspeak and a Pop-Up Exhibit with James Turner, a founder of the National Roller Skating Museum in Lincoln, Nebr., and co-author of The History of Roller Skating (1997). At the History Museum’s Education Center at 120 E. Park, Turner will present a slide lecture on the evolution of rollerskating from the late 1880s to modern times, and discuss the sport’s explosion in popularity during the Golden Age in the 1950s and ‘60s. Monday, Sept. 24

From 6-8 p.m., Cool Cars Under the Stars will be held at the Elmhurst American Legion on a Special Night in conjunction with York High School’s Centennial Celebration. Visit the York Alumni Association’s Table for info and official merchandise. $5 hot dog or hamburger meals inside.

 

Wednesday, Sept. 26

At 4 p.m., Elmhurst College presents Tanya Cabrera, who will present “Undocumented Student Access: Mental Health Trauma, College Access and Immigration Politics as the annual César Chávez Intercultural Lecture. It will be held in the Founder’s Lounge of the Frick Center on the campus of Elmhurst College. Admission is $10 for the general public and free for EC students, faculty, staff and alumni. Thursday, Sept. 27

  • From 5:30-11 p.m., there will be a Meet & Greet Kick-Off for the York High School Centennial Celebration in the back room of Fitz’s Spare Keys, 119 No. York. Tickets are $20 per person, payable at the door. The celebration continues through the Homecoming weekend.
  • At 7 p.m., One Fifty One Kitchen & Bar, 151 N. York St. will host a Craft Beer Dinner and History of Beer Talk in honor of the 4th annual Elmhurst Craft Beer Fest held Sept. 15. At One Fifty One, a selection of craft beers will be matched with a four-course Chef-selected menu. History Museum’s Executive Director Dave Oberg will share his vast knowledge of the History of Beer. Friday, Sept. 28

  • PLEASE NOTE: Change of venue: The YCHS Centennial Classic Golf Outing will be held at The Preserve at Oak Meadows, 900 Wood Dale Road, NOT at White Pines Golf Course as previous announced.   • The York Dukes Homecoming Football Game will take place at York stadium the pre- and post-game gathering sites for guests celebrating York’s 100th anniversary. Sophomore game at 5 p.m., Varsity game at 7:30.

 

Saturday, Sept. 29

  • From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be an open house at York High School for those taking part in York’s Centennial Celebration. The day includes historical tours of York and family fun including food trucks, live music, family games, free prize drawings and much more.
  • PLEASE NOTE: York High School’s Centennial Celebration Homecoming Party at the Diplomat West, HAS BEEN CANCELLED. Many classes are holding their own reunion celebrations.

 

Sunday, Sept. 30

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., “Brunch with a Duke” will take place at White Pines Golf Club & Banquets, 500 W. Jefferson, Bensenville, as part of York High School’s Centennial Celebration. Tickets are $30 per person. To register, visit Elmhurst205.org/centennialcelebration. RSVP by Sept. 14.

Tuesday, Oct. 2

At 7 p.m., the City’s Zoning and Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to consider the City’s Draft Subarea Plans at City Hall, 209 N. York Street. The city has determined that five subareas should be updated and the public is invited to provide input to help decision-makers provide the best services, direct growth, and maintain infrastructure for the areas.

 

Ongoing programs:

  • Widows or Widowers (WOW) meet every third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 537 S. York Road.   • The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m. New York steaks are available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows.
