‘Mutton Hollow’ just a memory
Lombard lost one of its links to the past when the old pink-colored house at 16 W. Taylor Road was demolished on Aug. 15. The traditional farmhouse-style building was constructed around 1862 and was the home of Elizabeth Higgins, its original owner. Higgins moved to Lombard to be near family following her husband’s death and started a sheep farm on her land that became known as Mutton Hollow. She lived there until her death in 1911. On Aug. 7, another part of Lombard history came to an end when the “White House,” which stood at 205 W. Maple, was demolished after serving as the home of the Lombard Community Senior Center for over 40 years.
