History to come alive this weekend
Cannon fire will echo across Lombard again this weekend as Union and Confederate soldiers meet in battle during the Lombard Historical Society’s eighth annual Civil War Reenactment in Lombard’s Four Seasons Park on Saturday, July 28, and Sunday, July 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Stanford’s Battery, which reenacts a Confederate battery unit from Mississippi, is the host unit for the event. Battery members are pictured last week at Lombard’s Sheldon Peck Homestead with a mountain howitzer. Visitors will be able to watch drills and demonstrations, visit military campsites, listen to Civil War-era music and much more. On both days, a skirmish will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and food vendors will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A donation of $5 per person is suggested, to benefit the Lombard Historical Society.
