Elmhurst Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

May 28

A victim in the 600 block of W. Belden told police at around 11:29 a.m. that an unknown suspect used unknown means to break out the front passenger window on her vehicle while it was parked in her driveway overnight. No entry was made to the vehicle. There is no information on the suspect.

May 27

Criminal damage to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of Robert Palmer Drive at around 1:07 p.m. At approximately 12 noon, a victim told police he parked his car in a store parking lot, blocking two spots with his vehicle. When he returned to his vehicle an hour later, he noticed the front chrome ornament on the hood was broken off of the hood and was left lying on the hood. Near the broken ornament was a napkin with a written message saying, “Learn how to park.”

May 24

Criminal damage to a vehicle was reported in the 400 block of Spring Road at around 7:22 p.m. The victim works at a car wash in the area. He parked his vehicle at the south end of a nearby parking lot at 8 a.m. and went to work. When he returned to his vehicle after work at 4 p.m., he noticed two large scratches on his vehicle—one on both sides. Approximate damage is $200.

May 24

An officer responded to a report of a man with a gun at Berens Park at 4:49 p.m. Officers located three juveniles on bicycles with airsoft guns. All parents were contacted. The juveniles were advised not to bring the airsoft guns to the park again.

Domestic battery, domestic incident, dispute, disturbance

May 30

Police said a verbal argument between a victim and suspect escalated when the suspect pushed the victim. The suspect was placed under arrest, transported to the police department and released to his father, pending follow-up with the DuPage County Juvenile Probation Department.

May 27

Police said officers responded to a complaint in the 200 block of E. Fremont of two women wrestling in the roadway at around 4:07 a.m. Upon arrival, officers interviewed the victim, who denied any physical altercation with the suspect. Officers were unable to contact the suspect, and the victim declined to pursue the incident.

May 26

A victim in the 200 block of N. Glenview told police at around 9:26 p.m. that earlier in the afternoon, while she was in Addison with her ex-boyfriend, he got upset and punched her several times in the face, abdomen and shoulder. The responding officer observed redness and possible bruising around the victim’s left eye. Addison police were called to the scene and spoke with the victim. An Elmhurst police evidence technician responded to the scene, took photos and assisted with ET duties.

A victim and suspect were involved in a verbal argument in the 300 block of Cottage Hill at around 9:42 p.m. The victim told police that the suspect pushed her down, causing her to fall on her right hip. The suspect told police that the victim attempted to grab his cell phone, ran into his hand, and subsequently slipped on the tile floor, causing her to fall. Due to conflicting stories and no visible injuries, no arrests were made.

A victim in the 500 block of W. St. Charles told police that a suspect was refusing to pay her cab fare. A reporting officer made contact with the suspect, who stated the driver got lost and demanded the entire fare after driving extra miles. The victim refused to sign complaints, and both parties were released from the scene.

DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, open alcohol in public, consumption of alcohol by a minor

May 30

Police said an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop near North and I-290 at around 2:42 a.m., at which time the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. Corey D. Heard, 38, of Chicago, was stopped by another agency, according to police. Elmhurst units responded and took Heard into custody. Heard was charged with aggravated DUI, aggravated driving while license revoked, aggravated fleeing and eluding, speeding and improper lane usage.

May 29

Police said officers responded to a call for suspicious subjects in the 100 block of S. Pick at around 11:23 p.m. and located subjects in the backyard having a bonfire. According to police, a bottle of vodka was located and David Butler, 19, of Elmhurst, admitted it belonged to him. Juvenile 1 was cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor and transported home. Juvenile 3 was released for a pending juvenile court petition. Butler was cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor and providing alcohol to a minor and released on bond.

May 27

Gregory Graham, 47, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, speeding, improper lane usage and no insurance, while Shannon L. Lawson, 45, of Chicago, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Willow at around 3:56 a.m.

Jenna J. Vogt, 20, of Valparaiso, Ind., was issued citations for possession of alcohol and consumption of alcohol by a minor, while Thomas Vogt, 19, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for consumption of alcohol by a minor in the 300 block of W. St. Charles at around 1:39 a.m. Police said officers responded to a noise complaint, where the complainant heard yelling or calls for help. According to police, four subjects were located on the track surrounding York High School’s football field.

May 25

Anthony Cordero, 21, of Westmont, was charged with DUI drugs, improper lane usage and making an improper turn subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 1:07 a.m.

Aaron Gilbert, 29, of Melrose Park, was charged with DUI drugs and improper lane usage subsequent to a reckless driving and DUI complaint near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 9:42 a.m.

Sreedhar Millapudi, 42, of Downers Grove, was charged with DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Riverside at around 4:54 a.m.

Nereida Munoz, 32, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, speeding and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Route 83 at around 12:21 a.m.

Nicolae Plesa, 51, of Skokie, was charged with DUI and no seat belt subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Myrtle at around 1:06 a.m.

Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance

May 29

Police said officers responded to a restaurant in the900 block of N. York at around 11:14 a.m. for the report of an intoxicated driver and passenger who were sleeping in the vehicle while parked in the drive-thru. The subjects were located, and were not intoxicated but were reportedly found to be in possession of a green leafy substance, suspected to be K2 or Spice. Both subjects were released pending lab results.

May 24

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Wrightwood at around 5:52 p.m., a suspect had .1 grams of cannabis and a multicolored glass smoking pipe. The driver’s side floorboard had a pill container, which contained different kinds of pills. A check of the pills showed them to be Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine extended release tablets. A suspect was released without charges pending lab results.

May 22

Police said an officer in the 400 block of N. York observed suspects inside a vehicle and smoking cannabis at around 9:25 p.m. All of the suspects were found to be in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, and one had been consuming alcohol in the vehicle, according to police. Police said four containers of stolen baby formula also were located. Abel Rodriguez, 26, of Des Plaines, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and illegal liquor access. Other unnamed suspects in the vehicle faced various charges, ranging from possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia, to theft and illegal consumption of alcohol.

May 25

A victim in the 100 block of S. Prospect told police at around 5:54 p.m. that she received an email allowing her to apply for employment through a shopping program. The victim entered the required information in the link provided. She later received a package with a check which was written in her name. Attached to the check was a letter asking the victim to cash the check and purchase a gift card from Apple. The victim did not cash the check and there was no money loss.

May 24

A reporting officer responded for an elevator that was stuck between floors at the Addison Parking Garage in the 100 block of N. Addison at around 1:21 p.m. The fire department opened the doors and six subjects were inside. The subjects admitted to jumping in the elevator and that’s when it got stuck. The fire department was unable to reset the elevator and a repair company was contacted.

A reporting officer responded to the report of a female Pomeranian dog which had been left abandoned in the parking lot of a store in the 100 block of S. Route 83 at around 6:48 p.m. The dog was taken to the DuPage Animal hospital.

A reporting officer responded to Elmhurst Hospital at around 8:16 p.m. for an anonymous sexual assault report that occurred in Chicago. Police said a black female approximately 20 years old came into the emergency room and stated that she was a victim of a sexual assault at an unknown Chicago location on an unknown date. She wanted to remain anonymous, would not provide any details about the assault and left prior to the police being contacted.

May 30

Retail theft was reported at a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 10:09 a.m. A complainant told police that the suspect was found to have taken 10 containers of baby formula and left the store without paying. The suspect reportedly got in the passenger seat of a newer white model four-door (unknown make) and left the parking lot southbound on York. The suspect was described as a black male, around 45 years old, 5’11”, 220 pounds wearing a baseball hat, a black shirt and grey cut-off jeans.

May 29

Identity theft was reported in the 500 block of S. York at around 11:50 a.m. A bank manager told police that they saw a digital image of a check that was deposited into the suspect’s bank account The suspect attempted to withdraw the cash. The manager contacted the owner of the check who verified it was fraudulent and should not have been deposited into the suspect’s account. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office will be taking over the case, due to them having the original investigation.

May 27-May 28

Theft was reported at the Elmhurst Public Library. Police said that between 10 p.m. May 27 and 10 a.m. May 28, a silver 10-inch, letter “Y” from the Elmhurst Public Library’s sign was stolen by an unknown suspect.

May 25-May 28

A victim in the 700 block of Saylor told police that upon returning home from being out of town, she found several items disturbed within the house, and cash was missing from different areas of the home. Four bottles of beer were taken from the refrigerator, consumed and thrown in the garbage can. There was no forced entry into the house. An investigation is pending.

May 24-May 28

Police said a victim’s lawnmower was stolen from her backyard sometime between the above dates in the 100 block of Evergreen.

May 26-May 27

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 700 block of Euclid between the above dates. A victim told police that an unknown suspect entered three unlocked vehicles in his driveway sometime overnight. The suspect reportedly removed a wallet containing credit and debit cards from one of the vehicle. One of the victim’s credit cards was then used a locations in Warrenville and Chicago.

May 25

Retail theft was reported at a pharmacy in the 100 block of N. Palmer at around 12:24 p.m. A complainant told police that a suspect described as a black male in his 30s, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 220 pounds with a goatee, a moustache and black hair, wearing a white shirt, jean shorts and a black Chicago Bulls hat, took various toothbrushes and toothbrush appliances off the shelf and placed them in his backpack. The complainant confronted the suspect, who then removed the items from his backpack and placed them back on the shelf. The suspect then left the pharmacy southbound on foot.

Theft was reported at a business in the 700 block of Church Road at around 2:22 p.m. A complainant told police that 12 company checks were stolen from a desk drawer at the above location. Payment was stopped on the 12 checks; however, five of the 12 checks were endorsed to various names and cashed between May 21 and May 23 by an unknown person at unknown locations. There was no loss of funds to the business because the bank honored the stop payment put on all the affected checks.

Theft was reported in the 300 block of S. West at around 4:06 p.m. A victim told police that when he returned to his apartment, he noticed his phone was no longer in his pocket. The victim stated that the phone was last tracked in the area of St. Charles and Taft before it was turned off. The victim called his cell phone provider and cancelled service on the phone.

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of N. Robert Palmer Drive at around 7:18 p.m. A victim told police she parked her vehicle at the above location and later discovered that an unknown suspect entered her unlocked vehicle and removed a black bag from inside the vehicle. The bag contained numerous documents with personal information. The victim has no information on the suspect.

A complainant in the 100 block of N. York advised at around 9:46 a.m. that a suspect deposited a forged check into his Citibank account using her company’s name, account number, and routing information. An investigation is pending.

March 29-May 25

A victim in the 600 block of S. Saylor told police at around 2:56 p.m. he sent a payment for custom made decals. It has been over a year, and the suspect has not produced the decals, nor returned the payment to the victim. The suspect was advised to send the decals or reimburse the victim. Charges are to be filed if the suspect does not follow through within a week or two.

May 24

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 500 block of W. North at around 8:54 a.m. Police said while a victim was inside a business, two suspects allegedly broke the front passenger side window of her parked vehicle and stole her purse. The two suspects then reportedly entered a white BMW SUV with Florida registration which was occupied by a third suspect, and fled the scene. The BMW was last seen in the area of Ogden and I-294.

May 23-May 24

Theft of vehicle parts was reported at a dealership in the 300 block of W. Grand between the above dates. An agent for the victim told police that an unknown suspect removed four tires and rims from a Honda CR-V which was parked on the dealer’s lot. Officers inspected the area and located a cut fence line where the suspect had gained access to the lot. The loss is estimated at $2,368.

May 23

Theft of services was reported at an auto repair center in the 500 block of W. Lake at around 12:19 p.m. The owner of the shop told police a customer left his vehicle at the shop for service. The work was completed, but the vehicle was left at the shop for three weeks. On the above date, the suspect was recorded on surveillance video returning to the shop and taking the vehicle off the lot without paying the repair bill and storage fee.

May 6

A victim in the 200 block of W. Lake told police at around 12 noon that she visited her storage unit in the above location and noticed a box containing a new paper shredder was missing.

May 1

Deceptive practice was reported at a company in the 1000 block of S. Route 83 at around 11:15 a.m. An agent for the victim’s company told police that the suspect, an employee of another company, paid for a repair service with a check, which was subsequently returned by the bank because the checking account was closed. A reporting officer was able to speak to a former employee of the company and learned the company is out of business and has filed for bankruptcy.
