The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Criminal damage, criminal defacement, criminal trespass to property, vandalism
May 20
Tristan Carter, 32, of Bellwood, was charged with criminal trespass to property at Elmhurst Hospital at around 6:41 p.m. Police said officers responded to the hospital for a report of a trespass violation. The reporting officer made contact with security, who had Carter in custody, according to police. Police said Carter was previously served with a no trespass order which he violated by entering the hospital on the above date.
May 19
A victim told police that while attending a wedding at a hotel in the 900 block of S. Riverside Drive at around 2:22 p.m., an unknown suspect(s) slashed the left front and left rear tires on his black Toyota Camry.
Disorderly conduct
May 23
Police said two parties in the 100 block of E. Oneida have had an ongoing neighbor dispute for years. A complainant told police the suspect attempted to run him over in the alley with his vehicle. The suspect told police the complainant was in the alley flying his drone while the suspect was attempting to park his vehicle in his garage. The complainant reportedly took his time moving out of the suspect’s way, and then yelled, “He just tried to hit me with his car.” The stories were deemed to be conflicting, and there was a lack of evidence that any crime had occurred.

Disorderly conduct was reported at a manicure business in the 200 block of N. York at around 9 p.m. Police said an officer responded for a customer dispute. The complainant told police that an unsatisfied subject refused to leave, after she was offered her money back for the work done on her nails. The subject received her money, and was issued a no trespass notice.
Domestic battery, domestic incident, dispute, disturbance
May 21
Police said that subsequent to a report of a domestic at an undisclosed location at around 6:30 p.m., a juvenile suspect reportedly battered the victim inside their home. The suspect was later released to his mother pending a juvenile petition for domestic battery.
A victim in the 100 block of E. Grand told police at around 6:34 p.m. that suspects were soliciting her apartment complex and came to her asking to see her ComEd bill. The victim told the suspects to leave the building at which point they reportedly became loud and started screaming and cursing at her in the hallway of the building. The victim went back into her apartment, and the suspects were still screaming in the hallway, according to police. The suspects were located and served no-trespass notices for the building.
May 20
A 25-year-old Chicago man was charged with domestic battery and criminal damage to a vehicle near Butterfield and Bryan at around 10:07 p.m. A victim told police that she and the suspect were involved in an argument which turned physical. She related the suspect hit her in the mouth, and then kicked her car door, causing a large dent.
May 19
A victim in the 900 block of N. Virginia Lane told police at around 1:06 a.m. that she was involved in an argument with her boyfriend and he subsequently shoved her, causing her to fall to the ground. The suspect related he and the victim were involved in a verbal argument and nothing physical occurred. There were no complaints signed.
DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, open alcohol in public, consumption of alcohol by a minor
May 22
Ahmad M. Hamdan, 19, of Chicago, was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor zero tolerance, possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane usage near North and I-290 at around 12:10 a.m. A juvenile in the vehicle was issued citations for consumption of alcohol by a minor and a curfew violation. A second person in the vehicle was found to be a missing juvenile and was turned over to the Addison Police Department at the scene.

Jose F. Martinez-Berrum, 47, of Addison, was charged with DUI, transportation of open alcohol, improper lane usage, disobeying a traffic control device and failure to signal subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Route 83 at around 11:31 p.m.
May 20
Ismael F. Barinas, 55, of Villa Park, was charged with DUI, illegal transportation of open alcohol, failure to yield to an authorized emergency vehicle and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Route 83 at around 11:32 p.m.
May 18
Brenda Rivera, 28, of Villa Park, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage near North and Route 83 at around 1:39 a.m. Then, at around 3:40 a.m., police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Myrtle, it was determined Rivera—who was arrested for DUI around two hours earlier—had borrowed a car since her vehicle was towed after her initial arrest. Rivera was determined to still be under the influence of alcohol, according to police. She was additionally charged under state charges of DUI, violation of bail bond, improper lane usage and speeding.

Jason Papadopoulos, 30, of St. Peters, Mo., was charged with DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident in the 500 block of Route 83 at around 9:19 p.m.
Harassment, threats
Oct. 1, 2017-May 23
Police said a suspect has been sending a complainant Snapchat screenshots and text messages of a harassing nature between the above dates. The complainant does not want to sign complaints, but would like the communication to end.
Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance
May 21
Jacob T. Bulthuis, 20, of LaSalle, Ill., and Cruz C. Garcia, 20, of Forest View, were both issued citations for possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Route 83 at around 1:57 a.m.
May 17
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near I-88 and Highland at around 2:50 p.m., Kevin Beauregard, 28, of Villa Park, and Michael Kmiec, 32, of Lombard, were found to be in possession of a controlled substance. Both were charged with with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, while Beauregard was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to signal.
Police said reporting officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near I-88 and Highland at around 1:14 a.m. Fourteen bags of suspected heroin were recovered, according to police. A passenger in the vehicle, McCree Davis, 27, of Geneva, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of hypodermic needles and possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver of the vehicle was issue a citation for speeding.
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near I-290 and Route 83 at around 1:32 p.m., Sarah Jensen, 27, of Palatine, was found to be in possession of heroin.
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Roosevelt at around 2:15 p.m., Andrew Santilli, 35, of Lombard, was found to be in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license suspended, speeding and no insurance.
Police said that subsequent to observing a hand-to-hand transaction near Roosevelt and Main Street in Lombard at around 3:04 p.m., a traffic stop was conducted, and Joseph Sakwa, 60, of Wheaton, a passenger in the vehicle, was found to be in possession of heroin He was charged with possession of a controlled substance .The driver of the vehicle was cited for speeding and no insurance.
Street racing
May 17
Police said officers responded to Romans Road at around 11:32 p.m. for a report of street racing. Jonathan Blancas, 20, of Stickney; Andrew Garcia, 24, of North Riverside; Ivan Mendez, 23, of Worth; and Alejandro Pena, 19, of Chicago, were each issued citations for street racing.
Suspicious circumstances
May 23
An officer responded to a school in the 100 block of Victory Parkway at around 3:09 p.m. and spoke to a victim, who stated that while walking near the gymnasium door, she observed a black minivan parked in the pickup lane. The driver, described as an Hispanic male between 35 and 40 years old with short dark hair, a moustache and chubby, stated, “Do you need a ride?” as the victim passed the van. The suspect began to exit the vehicle, and the victim ran toward her sister. The victim was released to her 23-year-old sister, and the officer talked to the victim’s father.
May 17
A complainant in the 800 block of Wilson turned in a stun gun that was found in the field behind a school at around 10:10 a.m. The stun gun was placed into evidence.

May 22
Police said an officer at a store in the 400 block of N. York observed suspects inside a vehicle smoking cannabis. All of the suspects were found to be in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, according to police. Police said one of the suspects had been consuming alcohol in the vehicle, and four containers of stolen baby formula were located. That suspect was charged with theft and illegal consumption of alcohol. A second suspect also was charged with theft. Abel Rodriguez, 26, of Des Plaines, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and illegal liquor access.
Retail theft was reported at a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 10:52 a.m. A complainant told police that a suspect described as a black male in his 40s, 5’11”, wearing a blue baseball hat, a tan jacket, tan pants and having a beard that had some gray in it, walked out of the liquor department and exited the store with bulges in his pants. The complainant told police he could hear clanking bottles as the suspect walked out. It is unknown which type of liquor was taken.
May 21-May 22
Forgery was reported at a company in the 500 block of W. Lake between the above dates. A complainant told police that her company had four fraudulent checks cashed using their account number and routing number. The checks were cashed at an unknown location by an unknown suspect. The checks totaled $2,840.
May 21
Forgery was reported at a store in the 100 block of N. Palmer at around 5:11 p.m. Police said officers were informed that a female suspect was trying to obtain prescription medication using fraudulent forms. The reporting officer located the suspect and placed her under arrest. A search of the suspect’s vehicle yielded a note book containing numerous pharmacy locations and stating the status of each transaction. An arrest warrant will be obtained for the suspect on a charge of forgery.
Theft was reported in the 700 block of S. Hawthorne at around 7:25 p.m. A victim told police he wire transferred $5,342.75 to a USAA bank account for a house closing. The email and instructions for the wire transfer were found to be fictitious. The victim reported the incident to his bank.
May 20-May 21
Theft was reported at a company in the 900 block of S. Riverside Drive between the above dates. A victim told police that an unknown suspect removed a glass carrying rack from the rear of the business. The rack is 6 feet wide by 8 feet high.
May 20
Forgery was reported in the 200 block of E. Butterfield at around 12:08 p.m. A reporting officer responded to the above location for the report of a fraud in progress. Upon arrival, the reporting officer spoke to a complainant who stated that a suspect attempted to pay with a counterfeit $100 bill. An investigation is pending.
May 19-May 20
A reporting officer responded to a store in the 100 block of E. Schiller at around 4:59 p.m. for a report of a suspicious circumstance. A complainant told police that an elderly female left the store after a clerk refused to sell her $3,000 worth of gift cards. The clerk recognized the woman from the previous day when she purchased $2,000 worth of gift cards. The unknown suspect had left the area prior to the officer’s arrival and was unable to be located. The reporting officer alerted local stores to be on the lookout for anyone attempting to make these kinds of transactions.
May 19
Police said that subsequent to a retail theft that just occurred at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 5:37 p.m., the suspect was found to have removed clothing items and left the store without paying. The reporting officer will be obtaining a warrant for the suspect for felony retail theft.
May 18
Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of S. Arlington at around 3:11 p.m. A victim told police she received a collection letter, stating she owed $449.55 in overdue fees. The victim stated she was in China for the summer months and could not have used her debit card. The victim contacted her credit card company and placed a hold on her card.
Police said that subsequent to a retail theft that just occurred at a store in the 600 block of N. York at around 2:25 p.m., a suspect described as an Hispanic male around 5-6, 250 pounds, wearing all black clothing, and a second suspect described as a white male around 5-9, 260 pounds wearing all black clothing, removed several bottles of alcohol and left the store without paying. The suspects were observed entering a gray Toyota Corolla.
Theft was reported in the 800 block of S. Kent at around 9:08 p.m. A victim told police that his guitar was to be sold at a garage sale, and it was left outside unattended. The orange, red, black, electric guitar was taken from the property.

Credit card fraud and theft were reported in the 200 block of N. Addison at around 7:55 p.m. A victim told police that she believes a suspect took her debit card and cash without her permission. The victim’s debit card was unlawfully used to obtain cash.
May 11
Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of W. Armitage at around 9:15 a.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect forged and cashed a check from her checking account.
Jan. 17, 2017-April 27
Financial exploitation of an elderly person was reported at a healthcare center in Hillside. A complainant told police that a suspect has been using the victim’s debit card between the above dates. An investigation is pending.
Warrant arrest
May 21
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 12:11 a.m., Samantha P. Wilson, 20, of Colorado Springs Colo., the driver of the vehicle, was found to be in possession of a fraudulent driver’s license. Wilson’s Illinois driver’s license was found to be suspended and she had a valid warrant, according to police. Police said a search of the vehicle yielded a cannabis dab and a one-hitter cannabis pipe. A backpack belonging to Darryl A. Pioch, 23, of Campton, Ill., a passenger in the vehicle, was found in the vehicle and contained cannabis. Pioch was issued a citation for possession of cannabis. Wilson was charged with obstructing identification, driving while license suspended, no rear registration plate and no insurance, and was processed on the warrant.
