Gregory Paul (Greg) Becht of Villa Park, died Thursday, May 3, 2018 following a brief illness, at the age of 64. Greg was born in Evergreen Park in 1953, the son of Fred and Mary Doris (nee Zinnen) Becht. Greg grew up in Markham and later relocated to Villa Park after his mother was remarried to Arthur Brilliant of Villa Park.
Greg had many interests and hobbies. Greg loved animals, such as birds, reptiles, etc. He cared for robins (raising several from abandoned babies), iguanas, even piranhas. His latest “friends” were an assortment of birds. He was a devoted karate student and practitioner for a large part of his life. Greg practiced regularly despite having severe arthritis. He was an avid guitarist and derived great pleasure from building and repairing guitars and amps, as well as playing. Another early hobby was lapidary arts and jewelry-making. American Indian history was another area of special interest to Greg. Musically he loved classic rock in particular, but also listened to a variety of musical styles such as classical and jazz.
He will be greatly missed by his brother Fred (Nancy) Becht. Greg is pre-deceased by his father Fred, his mother Mary Doris, and his stepfather Arthur Brilliant. In lieu of flowers, please go out and enjoy a good meal (preferably Chinese food!) – and lift a glass in Greg’s memory.
Memorial visitation was held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Avenue, Villa Park. For additional information, call 630-832-4161.
