The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
Jan. 23
A victim near York and Butterfield told police at around 6:01 p.m. that while on the school bus, two suspects were verbally harassing him. One suspect reportedly then took the victim’s hat and attempted to kick him. School resource officers have been notified of the incident.
Jan. 21
Police said officers responded to the report of a battery in the 600 block of N. York at around 4:03 p.m. A reporting officer spoke to a complainant who stated that a suspect had assaulted two of his employees. The suspect was placed into custody, transported to the police station and released pending charges.
Jan. 20
A complainant in the 300 block of Grand told police at around 11:21 p.m. that while at work, a suspect reportedly touched her inappropriately. She related similar alleged incidents with the suspect have occurred over the past few months. The suspect told police the accusations were false. An investigation is pending.
Disorderly conduct
Jan. 22
A victim in the 200 block of W. Wrightwood told police at around 11:46 a.m. that after placing a “help wanted” ad on Craigslist, the business received several threatening phone calls and text messages.

Alfonso Dias, 49, of Chicago, was charged with DUI and no valid driver’s license subsequent to a suspicious vehicle in the 600 block of N. York at around 1:26 a.m.
Jose Morales-Morales, 33, of Berkeley, was charged with DUI, improper backing and no insurance near North and I-290 at around 12:24 a.m.
Jan. 22
Ehab Allababidi, 21, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, speeding and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Melrose at around 11:51 p.m.
Jan. 21
Amy M. Ryan, 42, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage and no insurance near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 2:17 a.m. Police said Ryan was found to be under the influence of alcohol subsequent to a single car crash investigation.
Dionta Terrell Tillis, 25, of Bellwood, was charged with DUI, transportation of open alcohol, driving while license suspended and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near Butterfield and Swain at around 4:09 p.m.

Joseph Senase, 40, of Berwyn, was charged with DUI, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia subsequent to a report of Senase allegedly slumped behind the wheel in the 500 block of E. Butterfield at around 2:36 p.m.
Fleeing, eluding
Jan. 19
Police said while an officer was on patrol near St. Charles and Fair at around 3:15 p.m., the officer observed a vehicle cross the intersection at a high rate of speed. While the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, the vehicle continued onto westbound St. Charles, driving around traffic. The officer then observed the vehicle continue onto southbound Poplar, and lost sight of the vehicle. the area was checked with no results.
Missing person
Jan. 20
A complainant told police at around 10:03 a.m. that following an argument, a juvenile left the house and had not returned. The juvenile does not have her phone and is unable to be contacted.
Possession of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, controlled substance
Jan. 24
Victor Avalos-Gonzalez, 26, of Carpentersville, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and driving while license suspended subsequent to a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of E. Butterfield at around 11:48 p.m.
Euran T. Hassan Williams, 39, of Mount Prospect, was charged with city ordinance possession of drug paraphernalia subsequent to a traffic stop near I-290 and York at around 5:34 p.m.
Jan. 23
Samual R. Shamie, 21, of Franklin Park, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving while license suspended, no valid registration and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Grand and Old Grand at around 8:20 a.m. Police said Shamie was in possession of a digital scale with a white powdery substance on it which tested positive for cocaine.
Jan. 20
Police said while an officer was on patrol in the 600 block of W. North at around 3:13 a.m., the officer located a driver at a gas pump passed out at the wheel. Peter J. Gagen, 28, of Lemont, was found to be in possession of heroin, according to police, and was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Addison at around 11:13 p.m., three occupants of the vehicle were found to be in possession of cannabis. Carnell J. Smith, 24, of Bolingbrook, was issued citations for possession of cannabis and disobeying a traffic control device. Thomas N. Phinizy, 23, of Chicago, and Christian A. Norman, 23, of Riverdale, were both cited for possession of cannabis.

Rolando A. Perez, 19, of Addison, was issued citations for possession of drug paraphernalia and no rear registration plate light subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Willow at around 11:06 p.m.
Suspicious circumstances
Jan. 24
A reporting officer responded to assist the Oakbrook Terrace Police Department with a fight involving four to five male subjects in the 17W700 block of Butterfield at around 12:47 a.m. Upon arrival, all of the subjects were detained. The reporting officers located a gun in the snow at the above location which was recovered and secured by the Oakbrook Terrace Police Department.
Police said that subsequent to a call for a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of Comstock at around 5:46 p.m., a complainant advised she observed a black SUV with Ohio registration parked near the area of Comstock and West. The vehicle had previously parked in the complainant’s driveway and the occupants rank her doorbell and left. Later in the day, the complainant saw the same vehicle parked down the street. The area was checked with no results.
Jan. 19
Police said officers responded to the 500 block of W. North at around 5:39 p.m. for the report of two juvenile suspects refusing to leave a store. They were reportedly seen inside the store throwing candy at employees, using profanity and disturbing other patrons. They were both served with no-trespass notices and released to a parent.
Jan. 18
A victim in the 100 block of N. Elm told police at around 6:15 p.m. that an unknown suspect claiming he was with a home security company asked the victim if he had a home security system. Upon ending the conversation with the victim, the suspect left the area. The area was checked with no results. The victim told police the suspect had no company insignia and was not carrying an iPad or clipboard. It is a necessity for homes to have some sort of Security alarm system so that the home is protected as well as the people and items inside, however, they need to go through the proper channels and seek out assistance themselves by speaking to a professional company that has credentials and reviews that can be interacted with, otherwise, they could be setting themselves up for a potential break-in if they divulge too much information to these types of predators.

Jan. 22
A victim in the 100 block of S. Prospect told police at around 1:45 p.m. he parked his vehicle in a parking lot and was followed by two suspects described as black males dressed in all black, wearing ski masks. One displayed a black handgun, according to police. The suspect holding the hand gun reportedly demanded the car keys in which the victim immediately complied. The victim observed a red vehicle occupied by two black males speed away through the parking lot. He then observed his vehicle following directly behind the red vehicle. The red vehicle was stopped and two suspects were taken into custody. The victim’s vehicle was later located and found to be unoccupied. Further investigation is pending
Jan. 5-Jan. 22
Police said a supervisor from Comcast came into the police station to report five ladders missing from their trucks. All of the trucks were parked in the open parking lot in the 100 block of Industrial Drive when the ladders are believed to have gone missing. The complainant isn’t certain if the ladders were stolen or simply misplaced on other trucks.
Jan. 21-Jan. 22
A complainant at a company in the 100 block of W. Grand reported at 7:54 p.m. that approximately 20 sheets of aluminum and a 10-foot aluminum toolbox which contained aluminum lettering, were stolen from the property between the above dates. Two vehicles were entered, and a socket set, two I-pass transponders, a Wex Truck gas card and a yellow safety vest were stolen from the vehicles
Jan. 20-Jan. 21
Police said the owner of a business in the 200 block of W. Lake told police that an unknown suspect cut the fence line and made entry to the two adjoining properties between the above dates. The suspect reportedly entered multiple trailers which contained miscellaneous tools. It is unknown at this time if any property had been stolen from the business.
Jan. 20
Identity theft was reported in the 400 block of S. Spring at around noon. A victim told police he received a letter stating he must pay for missed payments on a Comcast account. The victim related that he did not open the account and was advised to file a police report.
Theft was reported at a gas station in the 500 block of W. Lake at around 6:18 p.m. A complainant told police that a suspect allegedly stole $1,549 in cash and 24 packs of cigarettes valued at $164.48. Police said the complainant showed the officer video footage of the suspect placing the cash in his back pocket and leaving the store with a plastic bag full of merchandise. Complaints will be signed by the complainant.
Jan. 19
Police said officers responded to a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 4:40 p.m. for a retail theft that had just occurred. A loss prevention officer told police that Joshua Bremer, 33, of Midlothian, was seen holding numerous items and exited the store without paying, according to police. Bremer and another suspect reportedly left the area in a vehicle, heading northbound on Route 83. Police said officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, and Annette Zwonlinski, 27, of Bloomingdale, was found to be in possession of heroin. Bremer was charged with felony retail theft and no insurance. Zwonlinski was charged with retail theft and possession of a controlled substance.

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 300 block of N. Elm at around 7:29 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked vehicle and removed his wallet containing cash, an Illinois driver’s license and 10 personal and work credit cards.
Unlawful visitation
Jan. 23
A victim in the 100 block of E. First told police that Emil Amarei, 44, of Johnsburg, Ill., allegedly failed to return their son to her parental custody according to court visitation hours. Police said Amarei returned their son 75 minutes after the scheduled time. Amarei was issued a citation for unlawful visitation interference.
Warrant arrest
Jan. 24
Police said Jack Pietrus, 28, of Chicago, came into the lobby of the police department to surrender himself on three warrants at around 11:25 a.m. The warrants were confirmed, according to police.
Jan. 23
Police said Melissa Ibarra, 22, of Marshalltown, Iowa, came into the police station at around 5:35 p.m. on an active warrant out of the DuPage County Sheriff’s officer.
Jan. 18
Police said Anthony Simmons, 32, of Romeoville, was found to be wanted out of the Will County Sheriff’s Department subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Route 83 at around 1:40 a.m. Simmons also was issued a citation for expired registration.
