York boys cross-country team sixth in Class 3A.

IC Catholic Prep freshman girls cross-country runner Frankie Chaidez had quite a showing at the recent Class 1A state finals meet in Peoria.
Chaidez finished third in the state, becoming the first IC Catholic Prep girls cross-country runner to earn a top-three state medal. IC Catholic Prep’s only other girls state medalist was Natalie D’Agostino, who finished ninth in the Class 1A meet in 2007.
Chaidez covered the course at Detweiller Park in Peoria in 17:47 and had an average mile of 5:55.6. She finished one second out of second place behind Shelbyville sophomore Ailey Mitchell and was 13 seconds behind Class 1A champion Emma Argo of Eureka (17:34).
The York boys cross-country team placed sixth at the Class 3A state finals meet at Detweiller.
According to the IHSA website, York has qualified every year for the state meet dating back to 1964.
York finished with 206 points. The Dukes were one of five West Suburban Conference Silver Division teams to finish in the top seven this season. Downers Grove North won the state title with 73 points. Hinsdale Central was fourth with 168 points, while Lyons Township was fifth with 191 points. Glenbard West was seventh with 223 points.
Sean MacGregor led the Dukes with a 21st-place showing in 14:45. MacGregor finished 10th in the state in 2016 and 86th in 2015.
Senior Tim Stevenson finished 49th with a time of 15:04. Senior Jackson Bode was 60th in 15:12, while Charlie Kern Jr. was 69th in 15:16. Kern Jr. was making his fourth state finals appearance in a row. Ethan Kern, a sophomore, took 88th with a time of 15:24. Senior Danny Honquest was 139th with a time of 15:41. Senior John Rosak was 194th in 16:16.
The sixth-place showing is a 10 place improvement over York’s finish of 16th place in 2016. The Dukes also took fourth in 2015, sixth in 2014 and fifth in 2013 after winning its most recent state title in 2012.
York girls cross country
The York girls cross-country team finished 22nd at the Class 3A girls state finals meet in Peoria.
The Dukes finished with 505 points. York was one of four WSC Silver Division teams to compete in the meet. Lyons Township finished third. Glenbard West was fifth and Hinsdale Central was ninth.
Junior Sarah May led the Dukes. She finished 64th with a time of 17:55. Senior Katherine Tomaska was 133rd with a time of 18:27. Sophomore Lydia Hickey finished 159th with a time of 18:42. Senior Erin Davies was 165th with a time of 18:46. Junior Kelly Leonard finished 179th with a time of 18:59. Sophomore Emma Kern was 181st with a time of 19:01. Junior Anna Morley took 198th with a time of 19:22.
York was in the girls state finals meet for 16th time since 2000.
Timothy Christian boys cross country
The Timothy Christian boys cross-country team placed 21st at the Class 1A state finals meet in Peoria with 462 points.
Clint Fincher led the Trojans with a 65th place time of 16:04 (5:22 mile average). Senior William Terpstra finished 82nd with a time of 16:16. Sophomore Caleb Mitchell was 91st with a time of 16:26. Junior Alex Oldenburger was 185th with time of 17:46. Senior Simon Detmer finished 203rd with a time of 18:35, while junior Noah Bezanson was 206th with a time of 18:43. Sophomore Tristan Iwema was 209th with a time of 19:12.

Timothy Christian sophomore girls cross-country runner Hope Clark placed 62nd at the recent Class 1A state finals meet at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
Clark covered the course in 19:11.
