Timothy Christian girls cross-country team wins regional title

IC Catholic Prep freshman Chaidez crowned regional individual champion.

The Timothy Christian girls cross-country team won the recent Class 1A Lisle regional championship.

The Trojans finished with 29 points, well ahead of second-place IC Catholic Prep. Timothy won its first regional since 2008.

The Trojans will compete in the Class 1A Lisle sectional Saturday at 10 a.m., at Community Park in Lisle where berths in the state meet will be on the line.

Sophomore Hope Clark led the Trojans with a second-place time of 19:59. Sophomore Elise Terpstra was third in 21:07, while junior Olivia Reamer was sixth in 22:04. Junior Jill Forgac was seventh in 22:20. Senior Annika Ward was 11th in 23:10 and freshman Kate Forgac was 24th in 26:10.

IC Catholic Prep girls cross country

IC Catholic Prep freshman Frankie Chaidez won the Class 1A Lisle regional individual title.

Chaidez won the meet with a time of 19:06, well ahead of the second-place time of 19:59.

Chaidez helped the Knights finish second at the regional with 42 points. The Knights will compete in Saturday’s Class 1A Lisle sectional.

Freshman Alia Johnson took fifth with a time of 21:40. Senior Julissa Unzueta was 10th in 23:00. Junior Jaida Smith was 12th in 23:21. Sophomore Annie Guinan was 14th in 23:47, while senior Anna Gendusa was 29th in 27:20. Junior Peyton James was 32nd in 27:44.

Timothy Christian boys cross country

The Timothy Christian boys cross-country team finished second at the recent Class 1A Lisle regional.

The Trojans will compete Saturday at the sectional level where berths in the state finals meet will be on the line.

Timothy finished only two points behind regional-champion Walther Christian, which had 47 points.

Timothy junior Clint Fincher took second with a time of 16:34. Senior William Terpstra was third in 17:22, while sophomore Caleb Mitchell took fifth in 17:45. Junior Alex Oldenburger was 15th in 18;38, while junior Noah Bezanson was 24th in 19:37. Senior Simon Detmer was 27th in 19:50 and sophomore Tristan Iwema was 32nd in 20:26.

IC Catholic Prep boys cross country

The IC Catholic Prep boys cross-country team also qualified for sectionals out of the Class 1A Lisle regional.

The Knights were fourth as a team with 135 points. Senior Pat Shannon was 12th with a time of 18:31. Senior Casey Kristie was 16th with a time of 18:40. Sophomore Zach Jordan was 26th in 19:49. Sophomore Dominic Gaudio was 40th in 21:44. Freshman Liam Darce was 41st in 21:44, while senior Alex Cabrera was 42nd in 22:20 and junior Fabin Perez was 43rd in 22:20.

Timothy Christian girls volleyball

The Timothy Christian girls volleyball team scored a recent 25-19, 25-23 Metro Suburban Conference crossover win against neighbor IC Catholic Prep.

Tracy Westra had 17 assists, six kills and five digs, while Heidi Westra finished with 11 kills, one ace and three digs. Rachel Stoll had four kills and one ace, while Emily DeBoer had three kills and four blocks.

The win moved Timothy to 23-12 overall.

Earlier, the Trojans lost 25-22, 25-20 to Chicago Christian in MSC Red Division action. Timothy finished conference play at 9-3.

Tracy Westra had 14 assists, eight kills and four digs, while Heidi Westra had nine kills, one ace and 11 digs. Rachel Stoll had six kills and three digs, while Abygale Ahn had two assists and nine digs.

IC Catholic Prep girls tennis

The IC Catholic Prep girls tennis team finished fourth at the Metro Suburban Conference meet.

Senior captain Hannah Wagner and freshman Gia Gaudio took third at No. 1 doubles, while sisters Natalie (junior) and Dani (sophomore) Murillo took third at No. 3 doubles.

“Those two finishes were the highlight of the season,” said IC Catholic Prep coach Julie Hurt. “Both teams were seeded fourth coming in.”

The Knights had an even mix of returning players and newcomers (seven each) this season. “Our returning players were solid contributors all season and our newcomers contributed as well this year,” said Hurt. “We are very excited for the coming years and the growth of the program. Our girls worked hard the entire season, earning valuable experience that will serve the program well in the future.”

Senior Alexxa DeCarlo, Gaudio and Wagner were the team leaders in wins. “The girls worked very hard to earn their wins,” said Hurt.

IC Catholic Prep boys soccer

The IC Catholic Prep boys soccer team started the postseason with a 7-0 win over Walther Christian in the Class 1A IC Catholic Prep regional.

The Knights then lost 3-0 to Chicago Phoenix Military Academy in the regional semifinals.
