Cartis and Nikoleit compete at state tennis; Football team closes out season.

The York boys cross-country team is headed to sectionals after placing third at the recent Class 3A Wheaton North regional held at St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville.
York finished with 68 points. Wheaton-Warrenville South won the regional with 35 points. Glenbard West was second with 47 points.
Senior Sean MacGregor finished fourth with a time of 14:53. Senior Tim Stevenson was seventh in 15:08. Sophomore Ethan Kern took 17th in 15:34. Senior Jackson Bode was 18th in 15:36, while senior Danny Honquest was 22nd in 15:42. Senior John Rosak was 26th in 15:52 and senior Mark Morgan was 36th in 16:15.
At the West Suburban Conference Silver Division meet, York took fourth with 88 points. Downers Grove North won the conference title with 34 points, while Lyons Township (74 points) and Hinsdale Central (75 points) followed.
MacGregor led the Dukes with a seventh-place time of 15:11.0. Stevenson was 15th in 15:31.40, while Kern took 19th in 15:43.60 and Bode was 20th with a time of 15:45.10. Honquest was 27th with a time of 16:00.70 and Rosak was 32nd with a time of 16:16.10. Sophomore Brian Pratt was 38th in 16:27.70.
York girls tennis
The York doubles team of Melissa Cartis and Gianna Nikoleit recently competed in the Class 2A girls state doubles finals.
Cartis and Nikoleit won their first match 6-3, 6-0 against the Lincoln-Way East team of Makenzie Helsel and Cassie Weyker. They then lost 6-1, 6-3 to the Stevenson team of Alyssa Glaser and Bronwyn Heidkamp and dropped a competitive 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 10-8 decision to the Lockport team of Kaitlyn Graves and Brianna Hillock in the second round of the consolation bracket.
York football
The York football team lost 24-6 to Downers Grove North in a Week 9 West Suburban Conference Silver Division game in Downers Grove.
York finished the season with a 1-8 record and went 1-5 in WSC Silver action. Downers Grove North improved to 5-4 and earned a playoff berth with the victory.
York’s sophomore football team defeated Downers Grove North 17-7 to finish the season with a 5-4 mark.
York boys soccer
The York boys soccer team lost 2-1 to Glenbard East in the championship game of the Class 3A Glenbard East regional in Lombard.
In earlier action, York was a 4-1 winner against Addison Trail in the Glenbard East regional semifinals.
