IC Catholic Prep football team racks up 655 total yards in win

Freshman Franklin runs for 233 yards; Eatman catches two touchdown passes.

The IC Catholic Prep football team continues to pile up yards like they are going out of style.

The Knights ran up a bill to the tune of 655 total yards of offense in its 45-0 shutout of Riverside-Brookfield in a Metro Suburban Conference Blue Division game contested in Riverside.

The win moved IC Catholic Prep to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in MSC Blue play. The victory made the defending Class 3A state champions playoff eligible. A win next week in West Chicago against Wheaton Academy assures the Knights of a playoff bid.

In the triumph against Riverside-Brookfield, quarterback CJ West completed 6 of 11 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns against no interceptions.

On the ground, freshman Kyle Franklin ran the ball 22 times for 230 yards and scored a touchdown. He averaged 10.5 yards per carry and had a long run of 68 yards.

Senior Lazerick Eatman ran 13 times for 112 yards (8.6 yards per carry) and scored a touchdown. His long run was 34 yards. West ran seven times for 65 yards and scored a touchdown.

As a team, IC Catholic Prep ran the ball 45 times for 422 yards and averaged 9.6 yards per carry, nearly a first down every time a rusher touched the ball.

Khali Saunders caught two passes for 59 yards, while Eatman caught two touchdown passes from West totaling 71 yards. Jacob Lytton caught one pass for 32 yards, while Sean Hipskind had a 71-yard touchdown catch from West.

On offense, IC Catholic Prep rolled up 655 total yards.

Sophomore Kevin Cooke led the defense with 11 tackles. Kemon Reese and Dylan Packer each had six tackles. Reese had one quarterback sack. Hipskind had an interception and a fumble recovery, while Khali Saunders had a caused fumble and Khalil Saunders had a pass deflection.

Eatman also scored a two-point conversion.

Over the last three weeks, IC Catholic Prep has put up point totals of 54, 67 and 56.
