York girls 3,200 relay team takes 12th in state.

Dukes girls soccer team wins regional title.

The York girls track 3,200 relay team placed 12th in the state at the recent Class 3A meet held at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

York clocked in at 9:48.94 with senior Julie Biggins, junior Katherine Tomaska, sophomore Sarah May and freshman Emma Kern.

The Dukes were third in their preliminary heat of the 3,200 relay with a finals-advancing time of 9:35.72 with Biggins, Tomaska, freshman Lydia Hickey and May.

Senior Jeanette Morley finished seventh in her preliminary round of the high jump with a leap of 5-1. Junior Molly Evans placed eighth in her preliminary flight of the triple jump with a mark of 33-11 3/4.

York boys track

The York boys’ track team had a highly successful evening at the recent Class 3A Lake Park sectional.

The Dukes finished tied for second as a team with 84 points. Wheaton-Warrenville South won the sectional title with 92 points.

York’s 800 relay team qualified for this weekend’s state finals meet after finishing second with a qualifying time of 1:31.06.

Obi Nnam won the high jump sectional title with a mark of 6-4. Cal Widener is headed to state after finishing second in the shot put with a throw of 55-2 1/2.

Jackson Bode won the 3,200 sectional title with a time of 9:35.46.

Charlie Kern Jr. won the 800 sectional title in 1:56.57, edging a Wheaton North runner who clocked in at 1:57.00.

Kern Jr. also won the 1,600 sectional title in 4:26.54 — again in a competitive race. The second-place runner finished in 4:26.73.

Jonathan Tanner rounded out York’s list of state qualifiers. He took second in the 200 with a time of 22.39.

York girls soccer

The York girls soccer team downed St. Francis 3-0 to win its own Class 3A York regional title.

Maggie Bleyer had two goals for the Dukes, while Jenna Dvorak had one goal.

York headed to the Downers Grove North sectional this week where it played Downers Grove North in the sectional semifinals. If York won that match it will play for the sectional title Friday at 5 p.m. at Downers Grove North.

York baseball

The York baseball team picked up a pair of wins recently to advance its overall record to 21-10.

The Dukes were 10-5 winners in a WSC crossover game against Hinsdale South. York scored seven runs in the first inning and had 10 hits in the game.

Andrew Deardurff was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Mike Bernal went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Joey Yaeger scored two runs and walked twice. Nick Lee had a hit and a run scored. Mike Pastuovic had two hits, a run scored and two RBI.

Ryan Ross had a hit and a run scored. Joey Chiappetta had a hit, a run scored and two RBI. Ian Steinorth had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

Pastuovic doubled, Chiappetta tripled and Bernal hit a home run in the game.

Burke Corcoran was the winning pitcher. He went four innings and allowed one earned run. Charlie Pakenas pitched the final three innings and struck out three.

York also won 8-7 against Elk Grove in eight innings non-conference play. The Dukes led 3-1 after the first inning in the back-and-forth game.

Each team had 11 hits.

Steinorth’s RBI single in the eighth inning won it for the Dukes. Deardurff had a hit, an RBI and a walk. Bernal had two hits and a run scored. Yaeger had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Lee walked three times, had a hit and scored two runs. Pastuovic had a hit, a run scored and two RBI. Ross had two hits, two walks and two RBI. Austin Gelsomino, Chiappetta and Steinorth each had a hit. Ross and Yaeger each had a double, while Ross tripled. Deardurff and Lee each stole two bases. York had six steals as a team.

Gelsomino was the winning pitcher in relief. He went the final four innings and allowed four hits, one earned run and struck out seven against no walks. Jake Hadawi pitched the first four innings.

York was scheduled to play at Naperville Central in a non-conference game earlier this week prior to facing Niles North today in Class 4A regional semifinal action. If York defeats Niles North it will play for the regional title Saturday at Niles North.

York softball

The York softball team went 1-2 during a recent three-game stretch against Hinsdale Central, Downers Grove North and Glenbard West.

In a 12-10 loss in 10 innings to Hinsdale Central in West Suburban Conference Silver Division action, Katherine Karnatz had a hit, two RBI and three runs scored. Jane Moran had two hits. Kyra Kroll went 3-for-6 with a run scored and six RBI. Mia Tran had two hits. Izzy Smith also had two hits, as did Lauren Wojcik (2 RBI, 1 run scored) and Sydney Fuglsang (2 runs scored).

Tran had two doubles, while Smith and Kroll each had one double. Kroll, Wojcik and Karnatz each hit a home run. Fuglsang stole two bases.

Julia Derkowski tookt he loss. She struck out four in 2 2/3 innings. Wojcik pitched the final 7 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs, while striking out five.

York then dropped a 7-5 WSC Silver division play against Downers Grove North. York had five hits. Moran had a hit and two RBI. Smith had a hit and a run scored. Kroll had a hit and an RBI, while Andrea Meagher and Maria Gentile each had a hit. Smith and Moran each had a double, while Karnatz stole two bases.

Wojcik took the loss. Julia Derkowski pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief and struck out five.

In York’s 9-5 WSC Silver win against Glenbard West, the Dukes led 6-0 after the first inning. York had 12 hits.

Karnatz had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Tran had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Smith had two hits and an RBI. Meagher had a hit and a run scored. Wojick had two hits, a run scored and two RBI. Gentile had a hit and a run scored, while Fuglsang had two hits, a run scored and two RBI. Jojo Moyer had a hit and a run scored. Smith doubled, while Karnatz hit a home run. Smith and Tran each had two stolen bases.

Wojcik was the winning pitcher. She allowed six hits and struck out 11 in a complete-game effort.
