The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

May 9
A victim in the 100 block of N. Maple told police at around 11:45 a.m. that he parked his vehicle in his driveway at around 2 a.m. When the victim returned to his vehicle at 10 a.m., he discovered it had been damaged. The victim has had numerous harassing phone calls and text messages from a suspect and believes the damage to his vehicle could be related.
May 5
A victim in the 300 block of S. Route 83 told police at around 10:31 p.m. while she was shopping at the above location, her parked vehicle was struck by an unknown object, which caused damage to the front passenger side quarter panel.
Disorderly conduct
May 6
Officers responded to a fight at a sports pub in the 100 block of S. York St. at around 9:54 p.m. Officers spoke to the complainant who stated she was standing up for her friend, but no physical contact was made. Due to no injuries or victims, no arrests were made and the parties were asked to leave the bar.
May 3-May 4
A complainant told police at around 10:34 a.m. she was notified that an unknown person defecated on the glass doors and brick wall located on the east side of a church sometime between the above dates in the 300 block of Eggleston Avenue.

Lechevalier Humphrey, 41, of Lombard was charged with DUI and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near North and West at around 1:57 a.m.
May 6
• Police said officers responded for a crash involving a vehicle vs. a parkway tree. According to police, Eric Richter, 25, of Elmhurst, fled the scene on foot but was eventually located and was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to give information after striking property, no insurance and improper lane usage.
May 5
Police said that subsequent to responding to a report of a one car crash, officers located Ryan Mariotti, 26, of Elmhurst, and the vehicle in a ditch alongside the exit ramp. According to police, Mariotti had lost control of his vehicle on the ramp westbound Roosevelt Road to northbound York Street. He was charged with DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
May 4
Michael Emmering, 33, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, expired registration, failure to signal, improper right turn and no insurance near Route 83 and North Avenue at around 2:59 a.m.
Fleeing-eluding
May 9
A reporting officer attempted to stop an unknown suspect in a green Subaru Forester for a speeding violation in the 800 block of N. York at around 5:26 a.m. The vehicle did not yield and continued east on Grand Avenue. The vehicle was last seen heading east on Grand Avenue in Franklin Park.
Harassment, threats
May 8
A victim in the 600 block of W. Armitage told police at around 8:29 p.m. that she has been continually harassed by electronic communications sent by a suspect. The victim stated that she and the suspect worked at the same company; however, the suspect was later fired due to continual harassment. A reporting officer contacted the suspect and advised her to refrain from any further contact with the victim. The suspect agreed to cease all communications.
April 19-May 5
A complainant in the 600 block of S. Saylor told police at around 5:45 p.m. that an unknown suspect(s) has sent lewd text messages and Facebook messages to her between the above dates. The complainant blocked the phone number and declined the friend request on Facebook.
Possession of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, controlled substance
May 10
• Juan Basulto, 21, of Franklin Park, was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license suspended and no rear plate light subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Route 83 at around 12:18 a.m. Police said a search of the vehicle yielded a plastic baggy containing a green leafy substance, suspected cannabis, and a metal cannabis grinder.
• Shannon Shaughnessy, 22, of Aurora, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, no valid registration, no insurance, failure to yield at an intersection and operating a vehicle when the registration was suspended for no insurance near Belden and Indiana at around 8:24 p.m. Police said Shaughnessy was located and was in possession of empty heroin baggies and drug paraphernalia.
May 9
Police said a reporting officer responded to a call of a black male and a white female smoking marijuana in a vehicle in Butterfield Park at around 7:24 p.m. According to police, Vanessa M. Whitehead, 31, of Elmhurst, was located and admitted to smoking cannabis out of a “bowl.” Police said Whitehead provided an officer with a multi-colored glass cannabis pipe containing suspected burnt cannabis from the center console area. During a consent search of the vehicle, an officer located suspected cannabis in a clear plastic Ziploc bag. Whitehead was issued a citation for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
May 7
Paul Yedor, 25, of Melrose Park—a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic stop near North and West at around 2:45 a.m.—was issued a citation for possession of cannabis after he was found to be in possession of cannabis, according to police.
May 6
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Grand and York at around 3:49 p.m., a reporting officer detected an odor of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle. According to police, a search of the vehicle was conducted and suspected cannabis, a bong, a mini digital scale and drug packaging supplies were located. Zikrillo Tursunov, 19, of Elgin, was issued citations for possession of cannabis, possession of drug equipment and tinted windows. Shohruhbek Musaboev, 20, of Elgin, was issued citations for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
May 4
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop, Joshua R. Hallerud, 21, of Addison, was found to be in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. Graciela Vega, 18, of Villa Pari, a passenger in the vehicle, was found to be in possession of cannabis. Hallerud charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, expired driver’s license and no seat belt. Vega was issued citations for possession of cannabis and no seat belt. Vega had a valid driver’s license and took possession of the vehicle, according to police.
Suspicious circumstances
May 3-May 10
Complainants in the 700 block of S. Mitchell Ave. told police at around 11:54 a.m. that when opening the living room window they noticed the left corner of the screen was pulled away from the frame between the above dates. There was a small slice approximately two inches in length from the bottom of the frame. The window is approximately six feet from the ground. There were no footprints in the mulch below the window or markings on the siding below the window.
May 9
A complainant at a fitness center in the 600 block of W. North Ave. told police at around 4:55 p.m. that while tanning at the center, she heard her son screaming. She finished her tanning session and went into the daycare room, where she was informed that her son had been enclosed in the bathroom due to his bad behavior. The complainant states her son was locked in the bathroom for 15 minutes. Daycare personal stated the child was in the bathroom for approximately two minutes and then watched by the general manager in the gym area until he calmed down.

May 9
A victim in the 200 block of E. Wilson told police at around 7:26 p.m. that she received a package from Amazon that was addressed to her son. An Asus GEFORCE GTX 1080TI was in the box. The victim was advised by Amazon that an account had been created in her son’s name. The victim’s son states that he did not place the order and would not have access to the victim’s credit card. The credit card and account were closed.
May 8
• Retail theft was reported at a pharmacy in the 100 block of W. North Ave. at around 6:50 a.m. A complainant told police that he observed a suspect described as a white female in the cold medicine aisle where she placed a bottle of Allegra® into her purse. During this time, surveillance video showed a suspect described as a white male remove a bottle of Zyrtec® from an endcap and place it in his pocket. Both suspects left the store southbound on York Road in a red Toyota Celica. The female suspect was around 40 years old, 5’10”, 180 pounds with brown hair and wearing a pink zipper-down sweater with white lettering, a black low-cut shirt, black stretch pants, black boots and carrying a large silver checkered purse. The male suspect was around 50 years old and wearing a black golf-type hat, a gray jacket, a tan hoodie, blue jeans with colored patches and white shoes.
• A victim at a restaurant in the 600 block of N. York told police at around 3:02 p.m. that an unknown suspect described as a black male wearing a White Sox jacket, red shirt, blue jeans, and white gym shoes entered the store. The suspect was recorded on the in-store video system removing a champagne product from the shelves and placing it in a shopping cart. He then exited the store without paying for the merchandise. The victim reports that this is the same suspect from a previously reported retail theft incident.
May 7
• A victim at a church in the 1000 block of S. Prospect Ave. told police at around 6:54 p.m. that while she was at the church, she sat next to her purse and closed her eyes for a short time. After this time, the victim noticed that her purse was no longer next to her.
• A victim in the 100 block of E. Brush Hill told police at around 1:42 p.m. that following her shift, she went to the parking lot at 7 a.m. and found that an unknown suspect(s) removed the lug nuts and the passenger side rear tire from her vehicle. Video surveillance footage showed a dark colored unknown make or model vehicle pull next to the victim’s vehicle and left the area via the main entrance off of Brush Hill Road.
• A victim at a restaurant in the 600 block of E. St. Charles Road told police at around 10:59 p.m. that her ex-boyfriend had taken her vehicle without permission while it was parked at the above location. The victim states that the suspect has a key fob for the vehicle but did not witness him take it. The vehicle was later located via OnStar. The case is pending investigation.
• A victim in the 700 block of Prospect told police at around 4:08 p.m. that an unknown suspect made an unauthorized charge on her MasterCard account. The suspect placed an order with Saks 5th Ave. The victim canceled the order and the MasterCard account.
May 6
Police said Bertha Campos, 52, of Melrose Park, Offender was found to be in possession of stolen merchandise after having passed the last point of sale at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 8:42 p.m. According to police, Campos’ granddaughter was in possession of stolen merchandise. Police said that Campos’ granddaughter stated Campos had put the merchandise down her pants and told her that no one would notice. Campos was charged with felony retail theft and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
May 4-May 5
• A victim in the 300 block of Hill told police at around 10:47 a.m. that an unknown suspect withdrew cash from his checking account at a bank in Holland, Mich. The suspect used the identification of a second victim. The victim has his checkbook in his possession and did not authorize any withdrawals.
• An employee from a gas station in the 1000 block of N. York told police at around 1:16 p.m. that an unknown suspect removed a credit card reader from the self-service vacuum cleaner located in the southeast corner of the lot between the above dates.
May 4
• Albert Evans, 55, of Villa Park, was charged with retail theft at a store in the 600 block of W. North Ave. at around 11:30 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a complaint of a retail theft, officers responded to the store. Officers were advised that Evans was being detained at the scene, and that he had attempted to steal numerous items of merchandise, according to police.
• A victim at a bank in the 500 block of W. St. Charles Road told police at around 12:45 p.m. that she sent three checks, cash, a deposit slip and her Illinois driver’s license via the drive-thru canister at the bank. The victim received a different person’s driver’s license and debit card back. At the time of this report, the bank was unable to locate the victim’s deposit slip, driver’s license, checks and cash.
May 3
A complainant at a food store in the 900 block of S. York told police at around 11:51 a.m. that he found a cart in a cooler containing grocery items surrounding a black garbage bag. Inside the bag was over-the-counter health and beauty products. The suspect was described as a black male wearing blue jeans, a light gray hoodie, possibly a darker vest over the hoodie, and a black hat with a sticker on the bill. The suspect left the store without any items.
