The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

April 1
A victim in the 100 block of E. Wilson told police that he woke to find his front picture window broken. The victim observed a rock in his living room right in front of the broken window. The victim does not know who could have broken the window and hasn’t had problems with any neighbors.
March 31-April 1
• A complainant in the 800 block of S. Cambridge told police that between the above dates, she found her front picture window had a large crack in the outer pane. The officer observed a rock under the bush in front of the window which had fresh marks, appearing as if it had been struck against something. The complainant does not know who could have broken the window and hasn’t had problems with any neighbors.
• A victim in the 200 block of May told police that between the above dates, an unknown suspect threw a rock against the window on the front of his house causing damage to a pane of glass. The victim’s wife reported hearing the shattering glass sometime after 11 p.m. the previous night.
• A victim in the 200 block of N. Hampshire told police that an unknown suspect broke a window on the front of the victim’s rental property between the above dates. The victim also reports that the suspect removed a thermostat from the property.
March 30
A complainant told police that she parked her vehicle in the lot at Elmhurst Center for Health in the morning and returned to it several hours later to find a shattered rear window. Hospital security reviewed surveillance footage and advised complainant’s vehicle had not been tampered with the entire time it was parked in that location.

March 31
A complainant at a restaurant in the 100 block of E. Butterfield told police at around 8:22 a.m. she was notified that six older males who frequent the restaurant daily were having vulgar conversations and offending other customers. The subjects were no longer on scene, but the complainant would like all six men served with trespass notices the next time they arrive at the restaurant.

March 30
Police said that subsequent to a call for possible drug activity at a pharmacy in the 100 block of W. North at around 11:13 p.m., Anthony Talarico, 24, of Villa Park, and Jamie Bach, 31, of Wheaton, were located. According to police, Talarico was found with a smoking pipe and needle in his hand, and admitted to using heroin and was in possession of crack cocaine. He was also wanted out of the Villa Park Police Department, according to police. He was charged with DUI drugs, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and no valid driver’s license. Bach was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and was also wanted out of Will County.

April 5
• Roque Casas, 35, of Elmhurst, was issued citations for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia subsequent to a traffic stop near Palmer and York at around 5:56 p.m.
• Police said officers observed Ivan Rojas, 19, of Elmhurst and a juvenile suspect seated in a parked car in the parking lot with the windows partially open. According to police, officers detected an odor of burning cannabis emitting from the vehicle. Police said that during a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located cannabis. Both Rojas and the juvenile were cited for possession of cannabis.
• A victim in the 400 block of N. Highland Ave. told police at around 9:17 p.m. that he received a phone call from what he believed was Microsoft advising his license for Windows 7 had expired and he needed to call for an upgrade. An unknown suspect advised that the victim could only obtain payment in the form of gift cards. Victim purchased gift cards and provided the suspect with the gift card numbers via telephone.
April 4
Police said that subsequent to a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of W. Grand at around 4:34 p.m., Andres Alcala, 20, of Melrose Park and Kendra Martinez, 20, of Addison, were found to be under the age of 21 and in possession of alcohol. Martinez was also found to be in possession of cannabis, according to police. Alcala was cited on scene for possession of alcohol by a minor, while Martinez was cited at scene for possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of cannabis.
April 2
Kenneth Conway, 52, of Elmhurst, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of cannabis and driving while license suspended in the 600 block of W. North at around 12:56 a.m. Police said Conway was observed at the aforementioned location passed out in his vehicle with the door open.
April 1
• Timothy Jackson, 25, of Villa Park, was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia near St. Charles and Prairie at around 2:01 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop, a strong odor of cannabis was found to be coming from inside the vehicle, with a search locating cannabis, cash and a digital scale. Jackson was a passenger in the vehicle, according to police.
• Police said Kurt Vanos, 59, of Hillside, was stopped for an equipment violation near York and Roosevelt at around 6:08 p.m. During a search of the vehicle, a controlled substance was located, according to police. A second suspect admitted to ownership of the controlled substance. Vanos was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol, driving while license suspended, failure to signal and no insurance. The second suspect was released without charges pending laboratory analysis.

Derrick A. Joyner, 29, of Westchester, was cited for possession of cannabis, and charged with no valid driver’s license and tinted windows, subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Fair at around 10:03 a.m.
Suspicious circumstances
April 5
A victim in the 900 block of S. Mitchell told police at around 9:34 a.m. that after returning home from grocery shopping, she pulled her vehicle into her garage. While sitting in her vehicle, she observed someone describe as a black male, around 6 foot tall with a slim build wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, a partial black mask and blue jeans walking up her driveway and holding a black handgun. When the suspect entered the garage, the victim put her vehicle in reverse and backed out of the garage. The suspect fled on foot and entered a grey/silver 4-door sedan and left the area northbound on Mitchell Avenue.
March 31
A complainant at a car dealership in the 400 block of W. Lake St. told police at around 6:05 p.m. that there were three suspects described as black males inside the dealership attempting to purchase a vehicle with what appeared to be a fraudulent Kentucky driver’s license. All three males left in three different vehicles before an officer arrived. Much of the information needed for the application did not match, which was what raised the suspicions of the complainant.

April 5
A victim in the 300 block of N. Maple told police at around 8:01 p.m. that an unknown suspect entered her unlocked vehicle while it was parked in her driveway overnight. The victim reports that she is missing her vehicle registration, a Mercedes-Benz emblem and an iPod.
April 4-April 5
• A victim in the 100 block of N. Walnut told police that between the above dates, an unknown suspect(s) entered the attached garage which had been left open and entered an unlocked vehicle. A bicycle was stolen from the garage. Nothing appeared to be missing from the vehicle.
• Two incidents of burglary to a vehicle were reported in the 100 block of N. Walnut between the above dates. In the first incident, a victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered her unlocked vehicle that was parked in the driveway and removed an unknown amount of change. The victim’s garage door had also been opened by the suspect(s), but nothing appeared to be missing. In the second incident, a victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked vehicle parked on his driveway and rummaged through the glove compartment and center console. Nothing appears to have been taken.
• A victim in the 400 block of S. Holly told police that between the above dates, an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked vehicle, rummaged through the glove compartment, and stole loose change from the center console.
April 4
A victim in the 600 block of Parkside told police at around 7:28 p.m. that he was notified by his credit card company of suspicious charges on his account. Visa reported that an unknown suspect charged a purchase from Saks Fifth Ave. The victim has his Visa card in his possession and has not authorized its use to anyone.
Feb. 14-April 3
A complainant in the 100 block of N. Evergreen told police that she received an overdraft notification for $11. An unknown suspect(s) opened a bank account using her name. The victim started a fraud case with the bank and was advised to monitor her credit score.
Jan. 23-April 3
A complainant at a company in the 700 of N. York told police that a suspect came into the business to purchase truck parts, told them to charge it to the company account of VP Xpress LLC, and used a passport as identification for the purchase. VP Xpress later called the complainant stating the suspect does not work for the company, nor did they authorize a purchase. On April 3, the suspect attempted to make a purchase using the same passport, but left the area before he could be apprehended. The suspect left the passport at the business.
April 2
Linda Wynn, 57, of Melrose Park, was charged with retail theft at a store in in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 5:17 p.m. Police said store security reported observing Wynn remove two jewelry items from their packaging and place them on her person. Wynn then completed some transactions and left the store without paying for the two rings, according to police. Store security detained her and escorted her back to the store.
April 1
A victim told police that he had his car serviced at a dealing shop in the 400 block of N. York at around 2:28 p.m. He placed two Rolex watches in the center console of the vehicle prior to having the vehicle serviced. He later reported one of the watches was missing. A search of the suspect and premises did not locate the missing watch. A review of video footage failed to show the suspect with the watch.
March 31-April 1
Joel Wieland, 29, of Elmhurst, was charged with theft in the 200 block of N. Bonnie Brae at around 4:51 p.m. A victim told police that five of her rings were missing, and Wieland was taken into custody, according to police.
Jan. 1-April 1
A victim in the 100 block of S. Poplar told police that an unknown suspect(s) used his personal information to open a Verizon Wireless account between the above dates. The victim received a bill from Verizon and was advised by Verizon’s fraud department to file a police report.
March 31
Police said officers responded to a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 6:26 p.m. to the report of Laura Loder, 50, of Villa Park, who took $22 in merchandise and left without paying. She was charged with retail theft after being served a no-trespass notice.
March 25-March 31
A victim told police that between the above dates, his utility trailer was damaged and some items were possibly stolen from it. He was unsure which items were taken. Surveillance footage from a nearby business will be obtained.
March 30
• Police said that while conducting surveillance at a pharmacy in the 100 block of W. North at around 4:03 p.m., it was learned that a juvenile suspect took a lighter and left without paying. A traffic stop was performed, and the juvenile and Krystal Trevino, 24, of Addison, were found to be in possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, according to police. Police said that while en route to the police department, Trevino pulled an item from her pants which contained urine and threw it on the floor board of the squad car. She was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia. The juvenile was charged with retail theft, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia, and released to her father.
• Police said a suspect at a bank in the 100 block of S. York attempted to cash a $5,700 check which turned out to be fraudulent at around 1:05 p.m. The bank did not cash the check. The suspect is described as male black approximately 34 years of age. He was last seen leaving on foot through the south doors.
• While investigating a retail theft at a store in the 200 block of S. Route 83 at around 12:06 p.m., it was learned a jewelry spinner rack full of gold earrings was stolen. An unknown suspect is seen cutting the rack’s security wire, covering it with his jacket after placing it in a cart, and then exiting the store. He is seen running in the lot outside of the camera’s surveillance. The suspect was described as a black male, around 40 years old with black hair and a heavy build, wearing a dark colored jacket, blue jeans, a black baseball cap and black shoes.

A victim in the 600 block of W. St. Charles Road told police at around 9:49 p.m. that an unknown suspect cut the catalytic converter and removed it from his parked 2002 Toyota 4Runner.
March 17
A victim in the 600 block of W. Albert told police at around 6 p.m. he was notified by Discover Card that a purchase was made on his account. The victim had his card in his possession and did not authorize its use to anyone. The victim contacted Discover to report the unauthorized charge. Discover stated they would investigate the incident and advised the victim to file a police report.

Police said officers responded to the report of a person who was reportedly causing a disturbance on an incoming Metra train. According to police, the suspect, Michael Soria, 25, of West Chicago, who showed signs of drug impairment, was located and was found to be wanted out of DuPage County.
April 1
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and North at around 11:23 p.m., Shyrease Garron, 32, of Maywood, was found to be wanted out of DuPage County. She also was charged with obstructing identification, driving while license revoked and no headlights.
