The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Battery
Dec. 23
Police said that subsequent to a fight in progress at a pub in the 100 block of N. Addison at around 1:06 a.m., two victims told police that while standing outside the bar, a suspect struck one of them in the face. The suspect told police that while leaving the pub, he was punched from behind on the left side of his face. He then grabbed the person who struck him and threw him to the ground. The suspect then left the area. No charges were filed.

A victim in the 500 block of S. Swain told police that during the above noted time frame, an unknown suspect(s) scratched the driver’s side of his two vehicles parked in his driveway. A sticker was applied to one of his cars and a carton containing six empty bottles of beer was found in his front yard. A second victim in the 500 block of S. Swain told police that during the above time frame, an unknown suspect(s) scratched the driver’s side of her vehicle while it was parked in her driveway.
Dec. 25-Dec. 27
An employee at a church in the 300 block of S. Kenilworth was advised by her cleaning crew that they discovered a broken window on the northwest side of the building. Upon inspecting the damage, it appears the window was broken from the exterior. There are no signs of entry and no missing property.
Dec. 24
A complainant near Route 83 and the Union Pacific Railroad told police at around 4:27 p.m. that while driving, a train was passing overhead at the time and his vehicle was struck by unknown objects causing damage to the hood of his vehicle, two softball-sized damaged areas to the windshield and a shattered sun-roof.

Criminal damage to property was reported in the 500 block of S. York at around 12:26 p.m. An officer responded to the area after a gas station owner stated that an unknown suspect punched the glass gas station door located on the west side of the building.
Dec. 22
A victim in the 200 block of S. Villa told police at around 10:51 p.m. that an unknown suspect(s) in a black sedan shot paintballs at their house. 17 holes were located on the aluminum siding and one hit the front stoop.
Domestic incident, domestic battery
Dec. 25
Police said a suspect came into the Police Department to report that his ex-wife was not complying with a court-ordered custody agreement. Upon further investigation, it was found that some of the statements given by the suspect were not truthful. The case is pending investigation.
Dec. 23
A victim in the 100 block of E. Grantley Ave. told police at around 7:36 a.m. that after an argument with the suspect, the suspect struck him in his face and head and scratched his left ring finger. An officer will attempt to contact the suspect. An investigation is pending.
Dec. 22
A victim told police at around 4:23 p.m. that her ex-husband approached her vehicle while she was parked in a restaurant parking lot in the 500 block of St. Charles and attempted to speak with her. The victim states that she currently has a restraining order out of Minnesota against the suspect, and the order states he is to have no indirect or direct contact with victim. The order also states every police department in the United States is responsible for enforcing the order. The suspect was contacted and advised he was served with the order, but was informed by his lawyer it was only valid in Minnesota. The suspect was advised not to have any further contact with the victim.

Kacee Uysaloglu, 27, of Villa Park, was charged with DUI, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic syringe near York and Adelia at around 6:48 p.m. subsequent to a vehicle stopped in the roadway.

Samuel Winger, 35, of Racine, Wis., was charged with DUI, speeding and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Fair at 12:10 a.m.
Dec. 25
Michael W. Rickwartz, 26, of Schiller Park, was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol, driving while license revoked, disobeying a traffic control device and no insurance following a traffic stop near York and Second at around 8:24 p.m.
Dec. 24
• Police said Daniel J. Finwall, 34, of Ypsilanti, Mich., was in the 600 block of W. North Ave. at around 4:57 p.m. and was threatening employees at the above location, then was located in another business. According to police, he provided an officer with a false name and subsequently was placed under arrest for obstructing identification. Finwall, police said, also was found to in possession of a white, powdery substance suspected to be cocaine. He was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and obstruction identification.
• Rachel Marcus, 38, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, possession of cannabis, improper lane usage, no insurance and failure to signal when required following a traffic stop near I-290 and North Avenue at around 12:25 a.m.
• Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Grand and York at around 1:03 a.m., Martir Morales, 29, of Bensenville, was found to be DUI and provided a false name and birth date. When his true identity was learned, police said he was found to have no valid license and wanted out of DuPage County. He was charged with DUI, no valid driver’s license, no insurance, two counts of improper lane usage and disobeying a traffic control device.

Subsequent to a suspicious person report, police said a juvenile suspect was found to have been drinking and in violation of curfew. He was issued a citation for consumption of alcohol by minor and curfew and was released to his father.

• Madlena Dimitrova, 32, of Lemont, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage following a traffic stop near Route 83 and Lake at around 1:36 a.m.
• Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near I-290 between North and Route 83 at around 8:52 p.m., Joseph Moran, 23, of Island Lake, was found to be DUI and in possession of heroin . He was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, DUI, speeding, no insurance and expired registration.
Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia
Dec. 28
Gino Pisellini, 30, of Naperville, was charged with three counts of endangering the life of a child, possession of cannabis and improper lane usage near York and Lake at around 9:31 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop and observing the driver, Pisellini, smoking what appeared to be a cannabis joint, Pisellini was determined to have been smoking cannabis inside of his vehicle with his three children in the backseat. According to police, Pisellini was found to be in possession of approximately 29 grams of cannabis.

Cesar Sotelo, 23, of Berkeley, was issued a citation by police for possession of drug paraphernalia near York and Vallette at around 1:31 a.m. following a traffic stop.
Dec. 26
Police said that subsequent to a suspicious auto in the 100 block of E. Vallette at around 9:43 p.m., Mario Hernandez, 18, of Elmhurst and two juvenile suspects were found to be in possession of cannabis and transported to the station. Suspect 1 was cited for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of tobacco by minor and released to his parents. Suspect 2 was cited for possession of cannabis and released to his parents. Hernandez was charged with possession of cannabis and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Suspicious circumstances
Dec. 24
Officers responded to an area near Gladys and Howard at around 4:02 a.m. for the report of a man with a gun. According to police, a taxi was requested to go to a gas station in Elmhurst from the area of Rosemont. Once the customer changed his destination, the taxi driver requested a cab fare from the passenger. At this time the suspect, described as a black male with long, curly hair last seen wearing a dark blue jacket, displayed a silver handgun and then fled the area.

While walking around the City Centre in the 100 block of W. Schiller at around 3:47 p.m., a group of boys were approached by a male subject. The subject said he was looking for someone who had access to a website he showed them, which would allow him to meet other people. He asked the boys for help in looking for that person. When boys declined, the subject asked them to meet him at the City Centre on Dec. 23 to help him look for the subject.

A complainant near Arlington and South told police that between 11:30 a.m. and 12 noon, he observed a suspect described as male around 6-1 wearing a black jacket with a hood walking from the sidewalk near the intersection of Arlington and South carrying multiple packages in his hands. He walked up to a black late model Chevy Impala, opened the trunk which was filled with packages and drove away a short time later. The complainant thought it was suspicious due to recent package thefts in the area.

Maria Flores, 46, of Elmhurst, was charged with retail theft at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 7:39 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a call for a retail theft at the store, Flores had removed $127.96 worth of bedding items and left the store without paying. She was located at her residence in Elmhurst, according to police.

The owner of an auto body shop in the 800 block of Industrial Drive told police that between the above dates, an unknown suspect entered the shop area and removed tools from several employees’ toolboxes.
Dec. 27
• Matthew Wozny, 19, and Ryan Camp, 18, both of Elmhurst, were issued citations by police in the 400 block of Fair at around 3:18 a.m. Wozny was cited for theft, possession of a fraudulent ID and consumption of alcohol. Camp was cited for theft. Police said that subsequent to a call for suspicious people climbing light poles, Wozny and Camp were located and in possession of two City of Elmhurst school signs.
• A victim in the 100 block of E. Brush Hill told police she left her purse unattended in an unlocked room while working at 7:30 a.m. At 4 p.m., her bank’s fraud alert sent a text to the victim notifying her of suspicious charges on her credit card. The victim verified that her wallet, an unspecified amount of cash, a driver’s license, a credit card and debit card had been taken from her purse. A second victim told police that at 8:30 a.m., she left her purse unattended in an unlocked room while working. At 4 p.m., the victim heard about a co-worker’s wallet being stolen and realized her wallet, an unspecified amount of cash, a driver’s license, and three credit cards had been stolen from her purse.

A victim in the 100 block of E. Schiller told police at around 1:24 p.m. that an unknown suspect removed her Michael Kors wristlet from the top of her shopping cart.
Dec. 23
Police said that subsequent to a retail theft in progress at a food store in the 900 block of S. York at around 7:33 p.m., Roxanne Hughes, 28, of Chicago, and Wayne Phillips, 55, of Berkeley, had removed several bottles of liquor from the store and left without paying. According to police, Phillips was found to be in possession of suspected cocaine, and Hughes was found to be in possession of several glass pipes and two plastic straws containing suspected cocaine. Both were charged with felony retail theft and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
• Officers responded to the report of a retail theft at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 5:49 p.m. A suspect described as a white female, approximately 25 years old, 5-5 and 130 pounds with brown hair in a ponytail with blond highlights, wearing a black puffy coat, black leggings and brown “Ugg” style boots, reportedly took a Kitchen Aid counter top mixer and left without paying. Further investigation is pending.

Theft to a vehicle was reported in the 200 block of W. St. Charles at around 10:53 a.m. A victim told police that between the above dates, an unknown suspect(s) stole the spare tire from under his vehicle.
Dec. 22
• A victim told police that while pumping gas in the 200 block of E. Butterfield at around 4:55 p.m., Wayne Phillips, 55, of Berkeley, allegedly entered her vehicle and removed her purse from the front passenger seat. The purse contained a black iPhone, keys, credit cards and miscellaneous paperwork. Police said Phillips was located in Chicago and was in possession of the stolen iPhone. He was charged with theft.
• A complainant, the manager of a food store in the 200 block of S. Route 83, told police at around 4:33 p.m. that a suspect attempted to purchase several grocery items and two gift cards with a credit card. The suspect provided a Maryland ID which was determined to be fake, and his credit card was declined. The suspect quickly exited the store, and the area was checked with no results. The driver’s license was placed into evidence.
• A victim in the 600 block of S. Linden told police at around 7:31 p.m. that an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked vehicle and removed change and a garage door opener.
• Officers responded to the report of a burglary to a vehicle in the 100 block of W. Jackson at around 10:07 a.m. A complainant told police he left his vehicle in his driveway unlocked, and in the morning, he noticed a pair of ice skates and a lap top were missing.
Dec. 21-Dec. 22
Police said that officers upon arrival at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 11:47 a.m. were advised that incidents of retail theft had occurred recently on different days. The store found video evidence of the incidents. Kyra T. Champion, 20, of Addison, was charged with two counts of retail theft.
Dec. 19
A victim in the 500 block of Emory told police at around 9:41 a.m. that she purchased an item online through Ebay. The victim purchased and prepaid for a designer purse. The victim stated that she received a sealed package delivered to her front porch. Upon inspecting the cardboard box, she found it was empty. The victim contacted the seller who denied any wrongdoing. The victim then filed a complaint with Ebay.
Dec. 9
A victim in the 200 block of Chandler told police at around 11:30 a.m. that a Forever 21 credit card issued in his name was sent to him in the mail. The victim denied applying for any such account. An officer contacted Forever 21 and learned the account was opened online in New Jersey. The account was then closed.
Dec. 8
A victim in the 300 block of N. Highland told police at around 2:06 p.m. that an unknown suspect(s) ordered a cell phone and charged it to their AT&T account. Victims were refunded the money and the cell phone was cancelled.
Dec. 1-Dec. 6
A victim in the 700 block of Kearsage told police that he did not receive his distribution check. The victim called his bank to inquire about the check. The bank stated that the check had already been cashed between the above dates. The bank advised that they would send the victim a new check.
Oct. 28
A complainant in the 600 block of W. North Ave. told police at around 12:46 p.m. that an agency mistakenly cashed a check for $7,000. Upon further investigation, the check was written for $7,000, however the handwritten portion indicated the check was only written for $1,000. A suspect stated he did not know he was given the extra money and had already spent it. The case is pending investigation.
