Additional information about the fatal shooting in unincorporated Villa Park on Monday, Jan. 2 has been made available.
Initially, reports from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office pertaining to the incident at the Brandywine subdivision did not mention the name of the officer or the deceased.
According to reports, Trevon Johnson, 17, was involved in a ‘violent domestic’ and a DuPage County deputy officer was dispatched to the scene shortly before midnight on Monday.
Mr. Johnson’s sister called 911 initially. The sister said “my brother has destroyed the entire house.” and that “he has a knife and has glass.” The sister claimed Mr. Johnson was “hitting me on the head and pulling my braids out.”
When asked by the 911 operator if Mr. Johnson had a gun, the sister said “no, but he needs to go now.”
The sister also told the dispatcher that she was bleeding and an ambulance was dispatched to the scene.
Mr. Johnson’s brother subsequently called 911 and informed the operator that Trevon “had a kitchen knife” and “My brother is going crazy, breaking stuff, glasses and everything.”
At that time, gunshots were heard in the background. The brother said “The police are already here, I think they are shooting.”
Mr. Johnson’s sister then described what was happening. She said that Trevon did not have a kitchen knife.
Trevon Johnson was transported to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The deputy involved was placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
DuPage County officials will not comment on the incident while the investigation is ongoing.
