The City of Elmhurst Police Department has announced the return of its Citizen’s Police Academy program. The Citizen’s Police Academy is a program run by Elmhurst police officers and detectives and provides an excellent opportunity for citizens to become acquainted with how the police department operates on a day-to-day basis.
The Citizen’s Police Academy is a twelve-week program held at the Elmhurst police station on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. The program will start Aug. 31 and run through Nov. 16. At the end of the program, participants will have a better understanding of police procedures, equipment, responsibilities, demands, and the laws governing the actions of police officers.
The Citizen’s Police Academy will cover some of the following topics:
• Laws of arrest
• Crime scene analysis
• Interviewing and interrogation
• Investigations
• Traffic stops
• DARE / Youth education
• Internet investigations
• K9 unit
