Wilbert ”Bill” A. Thiel passed away April 15, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born August 11, 1937 in Chicago to the late Wilbert B. and Loretta C. Thiel. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marjorie (nee Erickson) Thiel. Cherished father of Beth Thiel, Eric (Patrice) Thiel and Mary Alise Thiel; loving grandfather of Benjamin Thiel, Anna (Eoghan) McFadden, Jenna Engfer and Gillian Engfer.
Bill graduated from Austin High School in Chicago and Northwestern University with a B.S. in Accounting. He began his financial career as a CPA for Arthur Young then moved to The Chicago Corporation, starting as comptroller and after 35 years, retiring as the CEO. He served on various boards of directors, including the Options Clearing Corporation and the Securities Industry Association. Bill loved his church and served in many roles including council president. He sat on several boards of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois and the Lutheran School of Theology Chicago. Bill generously gave his time and talents to numerous other charitable organizations.
Visitation will be held from 3 – 8 p.m. on Friday, April 22 at Elmhurst Community Funeral Home – The Ahlgrim Chapel, 567 S. Spring Road. Viewing 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 314 W. Vallette Street, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., remembering and celebrating the lives of Bill and Marjorie. Interment, Mt. Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst.
