Born on January 10, 1926, she was the proud daughter of the late Dr. Emerson W. and Dora (Rosenow) Goldman of South Dakota, and sister to the late John Goldman and Joseph Goldman.
Doris appreciated all kinds of music and dance. She was a first-chair flutist in high school and college, and later played in the DuPage Symphony Orchestra. A 1949 graduate of the University of Iowa, she remained a staunch Iowa Hawkeyes fan throughout her life. She briefly taught school before starting a family and eventually moving to Elmhurst. Doris worked in the bookkeeping department of Press Publications for almost 30 years before retiring at the age of 70.
She was a member of Yorkfield Presbyterian Church for 56 years where she was involved in many activities, including the children’s and middle school programs, Joyful Noise Ringers bell choir, the Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry, Women’s Circle and senior exercise. She enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, attending Elmhurst Symphony concerts, Sunday car rides, and traveling to all 50 states to play golf with her husband. She took pleasure in baking her mother’s receipt for cinnamon rolls, which were shared with neighbors and friends. She will always be remembered for her generosity, kindness, hospitality, and service to others.
Her greatest love was for her Lord Jesus, her husband, and her children and grandchildren.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life is planned for Monday, June 13, at Yorkfield Presbyterian Church. More details will be announced.
