Glenbard East’s boys volleyball team competed in its own 16-team Springfest Invitational in Lombard on Saturday, April 9. The Rams won their first three matches of the event to advance to the semifinal round. Glenbard East faced Downers Grove South in a spirited semifinal match. The Mustangs edged the Rams 25-23 in the opening game. The above photo from the second game shows Glenbard East sophomore Aidan Weltin bashing a kill that tied the score at 24-24. Both teams had multiple chances to win the second game over the next several points. The back-and-forth battle finally ended when Downers Grove South reeled off three straight points to earn a 25-23, 38-36 win. Glenbard East closed out the invitational by beating Plainfield North in the third-place match. Glenbard West defeated Downers Grove South in the championship contest. The Rams’ overall season record at the end of the Springfest Invitational event stood at 10-3.
