Monday, April 18

• The Chicago Accordion Club meets on the third Monday of every month from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst American Legion, 310 W. Butterfield Rd.  Visitors are welcome.  Every meeting fee includes professional musical entertainment and pizza.  Admission is $12 for members and $15 for non-members.

• At 7 p.m., Elmhurst Parents for Integrity in Curriculum (EPIC) is hosting a Symposium on Social-Emotional Learning at the Diplomat West, at North Ave. and Rte. 83. Jennifer McWilliams, founder of Jennifer McWilliams Consulting, will be the keynote speaker. $20 suggested donation.

Thursday, April 21

From 6:30-8 p.m., there will be a book discussion about the book, ‘The Seed Keeper’ at the Elmhurst History Museum, 120 E. Park Ave. Hailed as a Best Book of 2021 by multiple publications, the book weaves together the voices of several generations of a Dakhóta family struggling to preserve their way of life in a changing world.  Registration is required via e-mail to: [email protected]. • At 3 p.m., the Elmhurst Choral Union will present Majestic Mozart in Hammerschmidt Chapel on the campus of Elmhurst University. Tickets are $25/adults, $23/seniors (62+), $10/ages 7-22. Tickets available at elmhurstchoralunion.org, by calling Brown Paper Tickets at 800-838-3006, or at the door.

• Beginning at 7 p.m., Stephen D. Smith of the USC Shoah Foundation, will present “Holocaust XR: How New Media is Enabling Memory and Education,” this year’s Holocaust lecture held in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center on the campus of Elmhurst University. Beginning at 7 p.m., Miroslav Volf will present “The World as God’s Home: Religion and Politics in the Visions of John of Patmos,” this year’s Niebuhr Lecture at Elmhurst University. It will be held in Irion Hall, Buik Recital Hall, on the campus of Elmhurst University. Admission is free but reservations are encouraged, at elmhurst.edu/cultural.

• From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Frick Center, Alexander Room, Elmhurst University will host a blood drive. Appointments encouraged, walk-ins welcome. Donors should eat healthy, drink plenty of water, limit energy drinks and be well-rested. All donors will receive a $10 e-gift card that can be used at a variety of stores.

• At 7:30 p.m., Elmhurst University presents the Late Night Blues Vocal Jazz Ensemble in a Benefit Concert for Ukraine featuring artists Jess Brooks, Lewis Achenbach and Kristin Wenc. at Elmhurst Hall, 119 No. York St. Free and open to the public.

From 10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day, the Elmhurst Art Museum and RGL Marketing for the Arts presents the 25th Annual Art in Wilder Park event in conjunction with the Elmhurst Park District. The event features more than 125 exhibitors including local artists, musical acts, food vendors, a Kids Court for family activities and more. • From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the First Congregational Church, 235 S. Kenilworth, will be host its annual Green Garden Fair.  Pick up pre-ordered certified organic vegetable and herb seedlings and/or purchase more. Purchase organic growing mix and compost, learn how to live more sustainably from a variety of “green” exhibitors such as the Elmhurst Cool Cities Coalition and the University of Ill. • Beginning at 7 p.m., the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra will present “Orchestral Brilliance” featuring percussionist She-e Wu at the Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, located at 149 W. Brush Hill Rd in Elmhurst. The church has accessible facilities and free parking. Behind the Music Stand lecture led by audience favorite Dr. Ted Hatmaker will take place at 5:45 p.m. prior to the concert. Tickets are $35 for adults, $32 for seniors, and $12 for students (school-age or college with ID) and can be purchased at elmhurstsymphony.org or by calling 630-941-0202. • At 7 p.m., Music@Bethel presents a jazz performance by the Alyssa Allgood Quartet at Bethel United Church of Christ, 315 East St. Charles Rd. Tickets are $20 available on Eventbrite or at the door. At 7 p.m., there will be free Medicare education for those who are turning 65 or for people who would like additional information outside of the Medicare open enrollment period in the fall. Elmhurst History Museum

Ongoing programs:

Now through May 6, the Elmhurst History Museum presents Carl Sandburg: Poet, Politician and Prophet, a free online pre-recorded lecture presented by Sandburg scholar Lawrence Webb in honor of National Poetry Month. • By All Accounts: The Story of Elmhurst

Experience local history through an award-winning exhibit about how the City of Elmhurst grew and developed over the years, including a history of the Glos Mansion and family. Elmhurst History Museum, 120 E. Park Ave., Elmhurst.

• The Elmhurst History Museum at 120 E. Park Ave. in downtown Elmhurst, will use an archaeological lens to gain a deeper understanding of the vibrant Native cultures and communities of the earliest inhabitants in their latest exhibit, People of the Prairie: 12,000 Years in DuPage County.
