Elmhurst police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at 2:19 a.m. at 155 E. First Street.
It was reported that three suspects described as teen-age black males wearing dark clothing entered the 7-Eleven on First Street. One of the offenders presented a gun to the clerk and proceeded to steal cigarettes and cash.
The suspects left the scene in a stolen maroon Honda CRV before the arrival of Elmhurst police. The stolen vehicle triggered an alert to the city’s license plate reader system, which notified officers that the stolen vehicle was on the south side of town.
An Elmhurst police officer spotted the vehicle on Spring Road and units intercepted with a pursuit that continued eastbound on I-290.
Elmhurst police, assisted by the Illinois State Police and Chicago police, pursued the suspects to the 4700 block of W. Jackson St. in Chicago, where the suspects ran into an apartment building. Police surrounded the building.
Eventually the suspects jumped from a third-floor window and a foot chase ensued, and they were able to escape.
No injuries were reported and the stolen vehicle is in the custody of Elmhurst police. Evidence was recovered at the scene and the incident remains under active investigation.
