Beginning Thursday, Jan. 6
The Elmhurst History Museum hosts an online pre-recorded lecture called From Prairie to Tree Town: Tales of Old Elmhurst presented by Museum Executive Director Dave Oberg who will take viewers on a journey through time, from the Elmhurst community’s earliest years as a remote Midwest prairie settlement on the outskirts of Chicago through the present. At 12:15 p.m. at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Rd., the Single Mothers will hold its monthly meeting, at which guests will be making a vision board for you and your children to enjoy throughout 2022. • At 1 p.m. at the Elmhurst History Museum, Curator of Collections Dan Lund will provide an overview of the best practices to preserve personal photos, documents, and scrapbooks for future generations. Topics include reviewing and demonstrating ideal materials, techniques for preserving physical copies, and the best ways to scan and digitally store family memories. Limit: 15 participants. At 2 p.m., all ages are invited to the Elmhurst History Museum for a free program called Journeying Through the American Indian Way of Life, led by award-winning Ojibwa author Kim Sigafus McIver, who will Interweave history, storytelling, songs, and drumming to present the tribes that once inhabited Illinois as well as their Native traditions and culture prior to the Indian Removal Act that moved them westward. The Elmhurst History Museum will hold a new exhibit, People of the Prairie: 12,000 Years in DuPage County. The exhibit will be open from February 4 through June 5, 2022.
By All Accounts: The Story of Elmhurst
Experience local history through an award-winning exhibit about how the City of Elmhurst grew and developed over the years. Explore a changing display of objects and photos featured in the History Spotlight as well as a history of the Glos Mansion and family.
