Margaret Ducci, née Mills, 97, died peacefully surrounded by her family in Amherst, Wisc., on Dec. 14, 2021. She was born on Oct. 28, 1924, in Salford, England, to the late David and Elsie Mills. While serving in the British Woman’s Army Corps in Naples, Italy, during World War II, she met the love of her life the late Joseph Ducci Jr. After the war, she came to America and they were married on Sept. 27, 1947. Margaret became a proud American citizen and raised her family in Chicago, Bellwood, and Elmhurst. She was an avid reader, gardener, lover of crossword puzzles and Jeopardy!, a traveler and volunteer in both community and church activities. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her growing family.
She will be sadly missed by daughters, Glenda (late Robert) McMurray of Sarasota, Fla.,, Janet Marchese of St. Charles, and Joanne (Philip) Holzer of Tomahawk, Wisc.; grandchildren, David (Kristen) Ducci, Michele (Noah) Utecht, Michael McMurray, and Gianna (Timothy) Green; and beloved great grandchildren, Faith, Lily Margaret, Eva, Chloe Utecht, and Kennett Ducci. She is also survived by her sister, Vera Schifferdecker, many nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her brother, William Mills.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at Yorkfield Presbyterian Church. Interment at Glen Oaks Cemetery, Hillside. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Yorkfield Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
