Car crash leads to charge of resisting arrest
On Nov. 17, police said that subsequent to a minor traffic crash near St. Charles and Villa at 1:09 p.m., Michael D. Knight, 35, of Villa Park, left the scene without providing information to the victim. Officers located Knight, who denied getting in a crash, refused to talk about the incident, and refused to provide insurance information, according to police When the officer advised Knight that he was going to be placed under arrest, Knight allegedly pulled away from the officer. Knight was charged with resisting and obstructing a police officer, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and failure to give information subsequent to a property damage accident.
Traffic stop nets cannabis, pills, four firearms, multiple checks, debit cards
On Nov. 16, police said officers responded to a report of subjects who appeared to be tampering with a bank’s ATM near West and St. Charles at 8:10 p.m. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Alfred Scott, 24, of Burnham, Ill., was found to have a warrant issued by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and admitted to having cannabis inside of the vehicle, police said. According to police, a consent search of the vehicle yielded four firearms (two of which were found to be stolen), several pills of a controlled substance, cannabis, and multiple checks and debit cards with different names on them. The subjects were taken into custody and transported to the police station. Scott was charged with four counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a machine gun and possession of cannabis by a driver. Police said Jamonte Sawyer, 21, of Chicago, provided the officer with a false name and was found to have a warrant from the Chicago Police Department. Sawyer was charged with obstructing identification. Three other subjects were released without charges.
Attempt to buy game tickets on Craigslist unfruitful
On Nov. 15, theft by deception was reported in the 300 block of Elm at 1 p.m. A victim told police that he responded to a Craigslist advertisement for the sale of three tickets to a sporting event. The victim sent the suspect funds via the Zelle payment application to pay for the tickets. The victim never received the tickets. The ad has since been removed.
