The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
Sept, 8
According to police, a victim in the 100 block of W. Armitage reported that a building repair contractor threatened him with a multi-tool earlier that day after a dispute over spilled sealant. The unknown suspect is described as white male, 59 years of age, gray hair, a gray goatee, 5-foot-7, 160 pounds, wearing a gray T-shirt and blue jeans. An investigation is pending.
Sept. 4
Joseph M. Cascella, 26, of Elmhurst, was charged with battery near Villa and Rose at 2:02 a.m. Police said the victim, a Lyft driver, reported he had a verbal dispute with passengers in the vehicle and
asked the passengers to exit the vehicle. According to police, the victim reported he was punched in the back of the head by the Cascella.
Sept. 2
Police said a reporting officer met with a victim in the 600 block of N. County Line who reported a suspect punched him in the face. The victim did not wish to sign complaints and stated the suspect would no longer be employed at the business.
Aug. 29
Police said a reporting officer was dispatched to the Elmhurst Hospital at 8:52 p.m. for a report of a sexual assault. The officer met with the complainant, a nurse, who related that the victim was no longer on scene and did not want to report the incident. The officer took possession of the sexual assault kit, which was submitted into evidence.

Sept. 6
A complainant at a church in the 400 block of N. West told police at 8:30 a.m. that the Ring camera on the west side of the building captured two suspects described as white male teenagers climbing an ADT box to gain access to the roof. The ADT box fell off the side of the building and the suspects fled. There was no apparent damage to the building and no dollar loss.
Sept. 3-Sept. 4
A victim in the 100 block of Clara told police at 1:31 p.m. that an unknown suspect(s) slashed a tire on his vehicle while it was parked at the above location. The victim stated he did not want to sign complaints.
Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance
Sept. 6
Jaaron J. Holmes, 30, of Hillside, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct in the 400 block of E. Butterfield at 4:07 p.m. According to police, a victim related while in his front yard with his wife, Holmes, who was intoxicated, muttered lewd statements and approached his wife. Police said Holmes knocked the victim’s beverage from his hand, slapped him in the face, and ran from the scene. The victim chased Holmes, punched him in the face, and knocked him to the ground, police said.
Sept. 4
A 21-year-old Addison woman was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 600 block of W. North at 11:48 p.m. Police said a complainant reported that she and her boyfriend had a physical altercation after having consensual sexual intercourse. Officers located the boyfriend at the intersection of Villa and Plymouth. Officers interviewed the boyfriend and observed scratch marks
on his neck.

Anthony Lira, 71, of Elk Grove, was charged with DUI and driving on an unsafe tire near St. Charles and Spring at 6:18 p.m.

Domingo Hernandez, 42, of Rolling Meadows, was charged with DUI, no valid driver’s license, improper lane usage, transportation of open alcohol and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Roosevelt at 11:50 p.m.

Vivian L. Jarrin, 31, of River Grove, was charged with aggravated DUI near Fremont at York at 1:45 a.m.
Sept. 3-Sept. 5
Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 100 block of E. Park. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed the catalytic converter from his vehicle while it was parked in the parking lot sometime between the above dates.
Sept. 4
Samantha J. Bavaro, 29, of Bolingbrook, was charged with DUI, no headlights when required and possession of cannabis by driver subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Melrose ats 11:09 p.m.
Nicole Jefferson, 46, of Calumet City, was charged with DUI, speeding, possession of a controlled substance and possession of cannabis by the driver subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Lake at 4:04 p.m.
Anna Villanueva, 21, of Posen, was charged with DUI, illegal transportation of open alcohol, improper lighting and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Shady at 1:05 a.m.
Sept. 3
Dashun D. McDaniel, 22, of Montgomery, was issued a citation for transportation of open alcohol in the 100 block of E. Schiller at 11:30 p.m.
Anna Warias, 33, of Schaumburg, was charged with DUI, endangering the life of a child, improper lane usage and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle near Route 83 and St. Charles at 10:14 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a 9-1-1 call for an intoxicated motorist, the officer located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at the above location.
Sept. 2
Daniel Davie, 50, of Hoffman Estates, was charged with DUI, no rear registration plate and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Fair at 7:54 p.m.
Fleeing, eluding
According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported three incidents of fleeing and eluding in which drivers of a vehicle or a motorcycle reportedly fled after a traffic stop was conducted.
Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance
Sept. 6
Nelson A. Marquez, 25, of Glendale Heights, was charged with driving while license suspended, unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver, no seat belt and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and Route 83 at 6:19 p.m.
Sept. 5
Kiyoshi K. Fields Washington, 41, of New Orleans, was charged with two counts of
unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia near York and Fremont at 2:11 p.m. Police said officers responded for the report of a domestic in progress, where the passenger was pulling the driver from a parked vehicle. According to police, the driver showed signs of impairment,
and was arrested for DUI. The suspect was transported to the police station and during intake procedures, she was found to be in possession of cocaine, methamphetamine, and two cut straws containing cocaine residue, police said.
Anthony I. Young, 55, of Bellwood, was charged with was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing identification, retail theft, no valid driver’s license, no insurance, unlawful display of registration and no front plate, while Erik C. Watts, 47, of Maywood, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance in the 100 block of Schiller at 2:57 p.m. Police said the suspects were found to be in possession of heroin. Young admitted two stealing two bottles of vodka from a store.

Alvin V. Willis, 52, of Franklin Park, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, DUI-drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, no insurance, disobeying a traffic signal steady red light, improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid accident subsequent to a call for a wrong-way driver and a crash near S. York and E. St. Charles at 3:11 p.m.
Resisting a police officer
Sept. 4
Solomon L. Moss, 26, of Berwyn, was charged with was charged with endangering the life or health of a child, resisting a police officer, obstructing identification, reckless driving, driving while license suspended and illegal screeching of tires in the 600 block of S. York at 6:19 p.m. According to police, officers were dispatched to the report of a reckless driver at York Commons. The reporting officer located the vehicle and found the vehicle was allegedly involved in a fleeing and eluding case out of Darien. Police said Moss provided a fictitious name and fled the scene on foot. Police said Moss also was wanted on a warrant out of DuPage County and a warrant out of Will County.
Suspicious circumstances
Sept. 7
While on patrol at an auto dealership in the 200 block of W. Grand at 10:55 p.m., an officer observed an unknown suspect standing next to a newer model red SUV (possibly a Nissan Rogue or Mazda), which was parked with its headlights on in the dealership’s lot. As the officer was approaching the dealership, the suspect’s vehicle quickly left the lot. Officers searched the area for the suspect’s vehicle with no results. In the area of the dealer’s lot where the suspect was observed, a vehicle appeared to have been lifted and quickly dropped, but did not appear to have any damage or parts missing.
Sept. 5
A victim in the 300 block of Holly told police at 1:42 p.m. that she heard a constant sound of something hitting the rear of her residence and found hundreds of white pellets around her patio doors. There was no damage to the victim’s home and she did not wish to sign complaints. The suspect’s brother relinquished the airsoft pellet guns and asked the officers to have the items destroyed. The pellet guns and pellets were placed into evidence for destruction.

Sept. 7
Attempted identity theft was reported in the 300 block of Chandler at 3:53 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) used her personal information to apply for a bank account. The application was denied.
Sept. 4-Sept. 6
Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 100 block of N. Haven. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) stole the catalytic converter from her vehicle, while it was parked at the southern edge of the parking lot sometime between the above dates.
Sept. 4-Sept. 5
Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 100 block of Pine. A victim told police that an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from her vehicle while it was parked in the lot overnight.
Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 100 block of S. Arlington. A victim told police that an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from his vehicle while it was parked in a Metra parking space at Park and Arlington.
Sept. 3-Sept. 4
Theft was reported in the 600 block of N. Walnut. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) stole a basketball hoop from his driveway sometime between the above dates.
Sept. 3
Police said a reporting officer responded to a store in the 100 block of E. Schiller at 11:30 p.m. for a report of an attempted retail theft. The complainant reported that an unidentified suspect described as a black male was observed in the stock room placing several bottles of alcohol into a shopping cart. The complainant confronted the suspect and he left the area in a vehicle.
Aug. 31-Sept. 2
Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 100 block of S. Prospect between the above dates. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed the catalytic converter from her vehicle while it was parked in the parking lot of the above location.
Sept. 1
Identity theft was reported in the 400 block of N. York at 9:06 a.m. A victim reported receiving a phone call from an unknown male suspect requesting the victim provide her social security number and her banking information. The victim was advised to contact the credit agencies and place a freeze on her credit.
Aug. 31
Theft of a vehicle was reported in the 400 block of W. St. Charles at 5:41 p.m. A reporting officer met with the victim who reported her son took her vehicle without her permission. The victim’s son is homeless and suffers from drug abuse but she allowed him to stay at her residence for a couple of days. While at the residence the suspect took the victim’s vehicle and did not return. The victim has made multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact the offender. This case is pending investigation.
Aug. 24
Identity theft was reported at a business in the 200 block of E. Butterfield at 9:34 a.m. A victim told police their business email had been hacked which led to an unauthorized transfer to an unknown suspect.
March 1
Identity theft was reported in the 200 block of E. Grantley. A victim told police that an unknown suspect opened a Verizon account using his information. The account was opened in March and then closed shortly after. No losses were reported at this time.
Unemployment benefits identity theft
According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported four incidents of identity theft with the intention of using a victim’s personal information to fraudulently apply for unemployment benefits through the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Warrant arrest
Sept. 2
Police said Christopher Dwyer, 34, of Elmhurst, was found to have a warrant out of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office in the 600 block of Fay at 10 a.m.
Police said a juvenile suspect was found to have an active warrant out of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, in the 100 block of E. First at 8 p.m. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the juvenile detention center in Kane County.
