Helen A. Gorman, née Scanlon, a longtime resident of Elmhurst, died September 5, 2021, at the age of 107. According to the funeral home, Helen was Elmhurst’s oldest living resident.
Beloved wife of the late Roger Gorman (2007); loving mother of the late Roger T. (1995), Eileen Moreau and Robert J. (Kathleen); proud grandmother of Sandra Moreau, Peter (Gloria) Moreau, Matthew Moreau, Patricia (Nicholas) Moreau Shaw, Joseph (Anna) Moreau, Rev. Patrick Gorman, Colleen (Tim Evans) Gorman, Maureen Gorman and Martin Gorman; great-grandmother of Liam Shaw, Madison Rojo, Joseph and Cullen Moreau, Ada Gorman and Bird Evans; sister of the late Josephine (the late Martin) O’Meara and the late Thomas (the late Marge) Scanlon.
Helen was grateful for a beautiful life filled with the love of an extended family for 107 years. She was our Irish Matriarch, an icon of God’s love who modeled a life of faith. As she moved into the loving embrace of God and her dear departed ones, she loved us, sang hymns and “Danny Boy,” and prayed.
Visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at Elmhurst Community Funeral Home – The Ahlgrim Chapel, 567 S. Spring Road, Elmhurst. Prayers Thursday at 9 a.m. going to Immaculate Conception Church, 134 Arthur St., Elmhurst for a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Private Interment at Calvary Cemetery in Evanston.
