Roy T. Johnson, of Elmhurst, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, at the age of 93. He was born in Chicago on April 12, 1928 to Roy Theodore Sr. and Louise Moehle Johnson. He graduated from Crane Tech High School in 1945 and the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1950 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy as an officer during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the Electrical Utility Company Commonwealth Edison for 37 years, retiring in 1990.
Roy was proud of the eight flat he grew up in on Chicago’s west side as his father and grandfather built the home. He also treasured the standard gauge train he was given when he was one year old. Roy liked to spend time with his family, and he enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to play golf. He lived in Elmhurst for 62 years and was an active member of Yorkfield Presbyterian Church during this time.
Roy was the beloved husband of 69 years to Anita Johnson, née Hart. He was the loving father to Steven (Sheila) Johnson, Janice Nordwall, and Thomas (Graciela) Johnson; adored grandfather to Kevin (Laura) Johnson, Katie (Jon Erik) Misz, Austin Johnson and Tyler Nordwall; and cherished great grandfather of Adelaide and Madeline Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a son-in-law Robert Nordwall.
Visitation at Yorkfield Presbyterian Church, 1099 S. York St., Elmhurst from 9 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2021. **Masks will be required.** Interment will be private.
