A sizable crowd of children and their parents—including families from Lombard—visited the recent Big Rigs and Kids event in Villa Park. The Villa Park Parks and Recreation Department hosted the event, which took place in a municipal lot near the village’s Cortesi Veterans Memorial Park. Last year’s Big Rigs and Kids function was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The rigs that were on display this year included Villa Park police, fire and public works vehicles, as well as a garbage truck. The children who attended the Aug. 14 event in Villa Park included (top photo) Quinn Etchingham (15 months old) of Lombard, who is pictured while sitting in the garbage truck as his mother Kaitlyn (left) looks on. Also pictured (bottom photo) is Joey Hitzker (age 3½) of Lombard. The Lombard Park District will hold a similar event for children—Touch-a-Truck—on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at Lombard Common.
