The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
Aug. 1
Michael Wright, 36, of Villa Park, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer near York and First at 7:41 p.m. Police said officers responded to the above location for the report of a subject refusing to leave. The reporting officer met with the complainant who reported Wright was intoxicated and harassing customers, according to police. The reporting officer located Wright, who was allegedly intoxicated, bleeding from his arm and standing on the railroad tracks. Wright allegedly used his forearm to strike both of the officer’s hands.
July 29
Police said that subsequent to being admitted to Elmhurst Hospital at 6:42 p.m., the suspect struck the victim with a closed fist. There were no signs of injury and no complaints to be signed.
A victim near York and Diversey told police at 8:59 p.m. that while transporting the suspect, he got up from the cot, aggressively approached her and grabbed both of her wrists. There were no signs of injury nor complaints to be signed.
Criminal damage, criminal trespass
Aug. 5
A victim in the 800 block of Cedar told police at 3:15 a.m. that an unknown suspect carrying a sledgehammer smashed the driver’s side windows of his Dodge Challenger. No access was gained to the vehicle.
Aug. 1-Aug. 2
Three incidents of complainants’ vehicles being egged were reported in the 100 block of N. Addison overnight.
Aug. 1
Police said a reporting officer met with the suspect who was found to have started a small fire at the above location. The fire was quickly extinguished and the suspect was
cited for injuring property. The suspect was released on scene to his mother.
Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance
Aug. 2
A 61-year-old Harvey woman was charged with domestic battery in the 400 block of N. York at 6:13 p.m. Police said the suspect struck a victim in the face.
A 39-year-old Elmhurst woman was charged with domestic battery in the 1-100 block of Astoria Court at 8 p.m. Police said the suspect struck a victim in the face several times. The victim sustained a scratch to his right cheek.
July 31
Police said a reporting officer met with a complainant in the 100 block of N. Glenview who reported at 2:34 a.m. the suspect became irate and began throwing items around the home. The complainant further stated the argument never became physical and was only verbal.
July 30
Jaime Brown, 43, of Elmhurst, was charged with disorderly conduct—false police report in the 500 block of N. Kenilworth at 11:53 a.m. Police said a reporting officer met with the complainant who reported an unknown suspect damaged her vehicle while it was parked in the driveway. Upon further investigation, police said it was learned the complainant threw an object at her husband’s vehicle causing him to allegedly strike her vehicle.
DUI, DUI-drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol, illegal possession of alcohol, consumption of alcohol by a minor
Aug. 1
Police said a reporting officer attempted to make contact with a group of juveniles in the 100 block of W. Park at 9:34 p.m. A juvenile suspect fled from the reporting officer and was last seen running westbound through a parking lot near the above location. The suspect was later located and was found to have consumed alcohol while under the age of 21. The suspect was issued citations for consumption of alcohol by a minor, resisting a police officer and possession of tobacco by a minor, and was released to his father.
July 31
Matthew Kentra, 19; Robert Mendoza, 19; Jack Ray, 19; Grant Scaro, 20; and Zachary Wiygul, 19, all of Elmhurst, were issued citations for consumption of alcohol by a minor subsequent to a loud party complaint in the 300 block of S. Berkley at 12:10 a.m.
Oscar Vergara Gonzalez, 34, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and I-290 at 12:34 a.m.
July 30
Hector M. Aponte, 34, of Chicago, was charged with DUI and tinted windows subsequent to an investigation of a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of W. North at 2:23 a.m.
Dylan McNish, 27, of Oakwood Hills, was charged with DUI-drugs and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and North at 7:29 a.m.
Fleeing, eluding
According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported two incidents of fleeing and eluding in which drivers of a vehicle or a motorcycle reportedly fled after a traffic stop was conducted.
Harassment, threats
Aug. 4
A victim in the 500 block of E. Park told police at 8:22 p.m. he received an electronic message telling him to wire cash or the unknown suspect would send out a pornographic video of the victim. The victim was advised to cease all contact with the suspect and to change his social media passwords.
Aug. 2
Police said a reporting officer met with a complainant in the 600 block of N. Michigan who stated at 6:47 p.m. that he received threatening text messages from an unknown phone number.
Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance
Aug. 4
Charles A. Hunter Jr., 24, of Plainfield, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, obstructing identification, driving while license suspended, possession of cannabis by a driver, no seat belt and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Butterfield and Cadwell at 10:46 p.m. Police said a search of the vehicle yielded cocaine and cannabis. According to police, Hunter Jr. also had a valid warrant from the Will County Sheriff’s Office.
Aug. 2
Shakira Earl, 25, of Chicago, was charged with no valid driver’s license, improper lighting, no valid registration, possession of cannabis by the driver and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and North at 2 a.m.
July 30
Leah Bessi, 21, of Bensenville, was issued citations for possession of cannabis by the driver and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Route 83 at 8:56 p.m.
Alexis Smothers, 21, of Romeoville, was issued citations for possession of cannabis by the driver and improper lighting subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Prospect at 10:31 p.m.
Suspicious circumstances
Aug. 4
Police said a business in the 100 block of E. Fullerton received a phone call soliciting donations and believed the request came from the Elmhurst Fire Department. While picking up the check, the subject stated he did not work for the Elmhurst Fire Department, but works with fire departments to make children’s magazines. An investigation is pending.
Theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery
July 30
Theft by deception was reported in the 100 block of W. Third at 2 a.m. A victim told police that she received a call from an unknown suspect claiming to be with the Social Security Office of Inspector General. The unknown suspect stated the victim’s information was used to rent a vehicle which was under investigation and a warrant was going to be issued for her arrest. The victim was instructed to purchase gift cards and to provide the card information to the unknown suspect. The victim sent a photo of the gift cards as well as personal records to the unknown suspect.
A reporting officer met with a victim in the 900 block of S. Kent at 8:05 a.m. who reported she was selling a pair of shoes online. The victim was contacted by an unknown suspect who stated he would pay an additional $100 if she shipped the pair of shoes to an address in Alabama. The victim then received an email requesting she transfer cash to activate a payment account. The victim transferred the cash and shipped the shoes but realized this was a scam after the unknown suspect requested additional currency.
July 29-July 30
Commercial burglary was reported at a repair shop in the 600 block of W. Lake. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered an unsecured storage container and removed 81 cases of motor oil and a Kawasaki mini motorcycle.
Unemployment benefits identity theft
According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported two incidents of identity theft with the intention of using a victim’s personal information to fraudulently apply for unemployment benefits through the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Warrant arrest
July 31
Police said that it was discovered Cristian Garcia, 24, of Elmhurst, had a warrant out of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office subsequent to a traffic stop in the 300 block of N Route 83 at 8:32 p.m. Garcia also was charged with driving while license suspended and speeding.
