Well-loved masterpieces, favorites from musical theater, and dazzling performances by instrumental soloists and the Apollo Chorus of Chicago await classical music enthusiasts in the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra’s highly-anticipated 2021-22 season.
Under the baton of Music Director and Conductor Stephen Alltop, concert programs will offer music for a wide range of musical tastes, and special events throughout the season will infuse the concert experience with a celebratory flavor. The ESO’s home at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church offers a contemporary space in which to enjoy performances with family and friends.
The season begins in September with a program of well-loved musical theater favorites, selections from Star Wars Suite by John Williams, and Gershwin’s Variations on I Got Rhythm.
Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor (Mvt. 1), Ravel’s Bolero, and Respighi’s The Pines of Rome are showcased in the second concert of the season, followed by a January program featuring music of Handel, J. S. Bach, Vivaldi and Telemann displaying the outstanding talents of the ESO woodwinds and brass.
Bach’s St. John Passion, sung by the acclaimed Apollo Chorus of Chicago, takes center stage in March, and the season comes to a rousing conclusion in May with a concert starring percussionist She-e Wu in a breath-taking performance of Higdon’s Festive Overture and the ESO playing music of Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff.

This season, the Symphony will offer five different concerts; patrons can choose packages of three to five concerts for any dates. Special discount subscriptions ranging from $90 to $130 are available now through Sept. 1.
