The Elmhurst Artists Guild (EAG) hosted an opening reception for “Engaging Frida” on Friday, July 16 in the EAG Gallery inside the Elmhurst Art Museum.
Forty-five local artists were juried into this exhibition inspired by Frida Kahlo. The lively evening featured Mariachi music by Juan Diego Rojas and Juan “El Aguila” Reyes with piano and cello by Brian Gaona and Kate Nadolski.
Guest speakers included Reyna Torres Mendivil, the Council General of Mexico in Chicago; Carlos Tortelero, founder and director of the Mexican Museum of Fine Art; Diana Martinez, director of the McAninch Art Center at the College of DuPage; and State Representative Deanne Mazzochi.
The exhibit was juried by abstract artist Heidi Becker, owner of The Studio Uptown in Western Springs. The following artists received awards for their work:

First Place – Annemarie Spencer Toedt
Second Place – Joan Curran
Third Place – Marlene Vitek
Honorable Mentions – Kimberly Stourton, Sarah Johnson, Shannon Carroll, Debra Vaccaro
