Hundreds of professional and amateur cyclists visited downtown Lombard to compete in the Lombard Cycling Classic on July 20. The DuPage Sports Commission presented the event, which featured several races throughout the day. The criterium course’s start/finish line was located on St. Charles Road at Park Avenue. Cyclists traveled eastbound on St. Charles, south on Main Street, west on Michael McGuire Drive and north on Elizabeth Street before turning east onto St. Charles. The photo shows cyclists competing in the final race of the day—the 90-minute open/pro race. Shortly before the last race, children and adults took to the course for the event’s kids and family community ride. The Lombard Cycling Classic, which is part of the Intelligentsia Cup Series, was last held in 2019. The 2020 event was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
