Police find woman asleep at wheel, unrestrained child in backseat
On June 12, a 34-year-old Broadview woman was charged with DUI, endangering the life of a child, illegal stopping where prohibited and no safety restraint for a child younger than 8 years of age. The charges stem from a report of a driver, later identified as Lauren S. Jordan, sleeping behind the wheel of her car near St. Charles and Route 83 at 2:26 a.m. Police said that upon arrival, officers also observed a sleeping child who was not wearing a seat belt in the back seat.
Couple charged for alleged retail theft, possession of drugs, weapon
On June 14, Christina N. Cruz, 47, of Necedah, Wis., was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and felony retail theft in the 600 block of N. York at 2:58 p.m. Police said Orlando Perez, 47, of Necedah, Wis., as found to be in possession of brass knuckles and charged with unlawful use of a weapon.
Juvenile observed stealing street sign
On June 10, a complainant near First and Willow told police they observed the suspect climb the light post at the above location and pull down the Willow Road street sign. The suspect was with a group of 10 to 15 juveniles who fled the scene southbound over the railroad tracks. Officers checked the area for the suspects with no results.
Victim sends funds to fraudulent account in Thailand
On June 11, theft by deception was reported in the 700 block of Saylor at 10:47 a.m. A victim told police that she received a suspicious email from a person reporting to be with PayPal. The victim contacted the suspect on the phone and was told to send a wire transfer to a bank account in Thailand. The victim complied and transmitted funds. The suspect continued to contact the victim demanding additional money. The victim contacted her bank, who informed her she had been a victim of fraud.
Man found passed out in drive-thru lane
On June 13 at 12:38 a.m., 59-year-old Michael J. Moroney, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI-drugs in the 900 block of N. York after officers responded to a report of a driver passed out in a restaurant’s drive-thru lane.
And now for the good news…
Threatening phone call deemed a scam; no dollars lost
On June 11, a victim in the 100 block of N. Palmer told police at 11:36 a.m. that an unknown suspect called him stating the victim’s sister was being held hostage by drug dealers and demanded ransom money. The victim was advised to send the money via a Western Union transfer. The victim did not send any money to the suspect. The victim’s sister responded to the police station, proving she was safe and that the phone call was a scam.
Neighbor reports suspect juveniles; police find no one breaking any law
On June 13 at 9:45 p.m., police spoke with a complainant in the 500 block of Mitchell who began by saying that his home had been previously vandalized, but that he had not reported any of the incidents, but he told police he suspected a group of unknown juveniles. The complainant then told police he observed a group of juveniles in the park adjacent to his property and requested the officers to respond.
Upon arrival at the park, officers did not observe any juveniles in violation of any ordinance, nor committing vandalism.
