The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
June 15
Police said that subsequent to a vehicle crash in the 700 block of N. Larch at 12:12 p.m., a suspect reported the victim grabbed her arm during a brief confrontation. There were no visible injuries. An investigation is pending.
Police said officers met with a juvenile victim near Cottage Hill and Park at 8:48 p.m. who reported being battered by juvenile suspects following a verbal argument. Both suspects were cited for battery
and released to their parents.
Criminal damage
June 16
While at Berens Park, a victim discovered an unknown suspect(s) shattered the rear window of his unattended Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS at 11:55 a.m. The estimated cost of repairs is unknown at this time.
Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance
June 14
Raelene Stamm, 45, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct in the 900 block of S. Hillside at 4:18 p.m. Police said Stamm threw a tennis ball at a complainant’s daughter.
June 12
A complainant related that, subsequent to a verbal argument in the 900 block of Hillcrest at 10:07 p.m., the suspect chest-bumped the victim. The suspect also related that the argument was verbal. The victim related he and the suspect were in close proximity during the argument when the suspect lightly bumped his chest, but that he was not injured. Due to conflicting accounts of the incident and no signs of injury, no arrests were made.
June 11
A complainant in the 900 block of Hillcrest told police at 12:51 a.m. that during a verbal argument, the suspect approached her in a threatening manner. The suspect related the argument was verbal, nothing physical occurred, and denied making threatening gestures or comments. Due to conflicting statements between the subjects involved and no indications of injury, no arrests
were made.
DUI, DUI-drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol, illegal possession of alcohol
June 13
Juan Guzman, 59, of Newcomerstown, Ohio, was charged with aggravated DUI, improper lane usage and transportation of open alcohol, subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Wrightwood at 3:42 a.m.
July 12
Troy D. Pilafas, 18, of Villa Park, was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor and possession of tobacco by a minor, while Jeffrey D. Keefe, 18, of Villa Park, was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor, possession of tobacco by a minor, and possession of a fraudulent ID near Spring and St. Charles at 2:12 a.m. Police said an officer on patrol observed the two suspects walking and noted they appeared to be intoxicated. The suspects advised the officer they had been drinking alcohol. Both suspects were released to their parents, according to police.
June 11
Jesus Lopez Cruz, 43, of Stone Park, was charged with aggravated DUI, no valid driver’s license, no insurance improper stopping on a roadway and use of unsafe tires, subsequent to an officer observing a disabled vehicle near York and Crestview at 8:03 p.m.
Fleeing, eluding
According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported two incidents of fleeing and eluding in which drivers reportedly fled after a traffic stop was conducted.
Harassment, threats
June 12
A complainant in the 900 block of Hillcrest told police at 8:46 p.m. that she believes the subject sent her a suspicious text message from a “spoof” phone number. She confronted the subject about it, which made him angry. The subject denied sending the text message. The complainant and subject were advised to avoid each other.
Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance
June 14
Clyde Davis, 50, of Maywood, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, theft, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing identification in the 300 block of E. Third at 5:47 p.m. Later, police learned Davis also had a warrant out of the Broadview Police Department.
June 12
Michael L. Causey, 42, of Elk Grove Village, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, subsequent to an investigation of a suspicious vehicle in the 600 block of N. West at 11:22 p.m. Police said Causey also was found to have a warrant from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and was in possession of a crack pipe and cocaine.
William M. Wagner, 27, of Wheeling, was charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, subsequent to a suspicious person complaint in the 200 block of E. Butterfield at 5:53 a.m. Police said Wagner also was found to have a warrant from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and was found to be in possession of
methamphetamine, heroin, Phencyclidine and drug paraphernalia.

Miriam Garcia, 26, of Chicago, was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle, driving while license suspended, no insurance, possession of cannabis by the driver, transportation of open alcohol, improper bumpers and a defective windshield near North and Michigan at 7:52 p.m.
June 10
Monique F. Turcotte, 35, of Northlake, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with one headlight, no seatbelt and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Route 83 at 1:49 a.m. Police said Turcotte was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Suspicious circumstances
June 11
Officers responded to the Wagner Community Center at 8:09 p.m. for a report of two subjects on the roof of the building. Upon arrival, officers located two juveniles and the fire department was called to bring them down. The incident will be forwarded to the Peer Jury program. The subjects were released to their respective parents on scene.
June 10
A victim in the 100 block of N. York told police at 7:37 p.m. that a suspect who had previously stolen from the business had been in the store and may have committed another theft. The suspect was located and denied committing a theft. The suspect was served with a no-trespass notice and the suspect’s mother was notified.

Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 400 block of N. Addison at 5:10 a.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed the catalytic converter from his vehicle while it was parked in the driveway overnight. The victim’s wife awoke to a loud noise coming from outside the residence. She then observed a subject described as a black male leaving the area in a black four-door vehicle which was last seen heading northbound on Addison Ave. This case is pending investigation.
Theft of vehicle parts was reported in the 200 block of N. West at 10:02 a.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed the catalytic converters from two vehicles that were parked at the business. The offending vehicle is described as a gray four-door sedan with tinted windows. The vehicle was last seen heading southbound on West Ave. This case is pending investigation.

Identity theft was reported in the 200 block of N. York. A complainant reported that an unknown suspect made numerous unauthorized transactions to his business bank account sometime between the above dates.
June 14
Theft of lost or mislaid property was reported in the 600 block of W. North at 9:05 a.m. A victim told police that he accidentally left his wallet on the counter after completing a purchase at the above location. When he returned to the business the wallet was no
longer there.
June 13
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 400 block of S. York at 5 p.m. A complainant told police that he observed a suspect who was pulling on the rear door handle to a work van located in the parking lot of his business. When questioned, the suspect, described as a black male in his late 20s, stated he was meeting someone for work. The suspect subsequently entered a dark, older model Chevy Tahoe (possibly with tinted windows) and left northbound on York. The victim’s rear window of the cargo area was smashed out but nothing appeared to be missing from inside of the van.

Burglary was reported in the 100 block of W. First. A complainant said four comic books had been taken from a locked display case sometime between the above dates. The display case was forced open. One of the comic books was entered into LEADS as stolen.
June 11
Deceptive practice was reported in the 400 block of E. Adams at 11:56 a.m. A victim told police that an unauthorized deposit was made from his checking account to a credit union account in Idaho. An investigation is pending.
June 8-June 12
Two incidents of burglary to a vehicle in which an unknown suspect stole sunglasses were reported in the 400 block of Stratford between the above dates. In both incidents, the victims’ vehicles were unlocked and parked in the driveway. A third incident of burglary to a vehicle in which the vehicle was unlocked occurred in the 400 block of E. Schiller at 2:25 p.m. An unknown suspect removed loose change from a cupholder. The Elmhurst Police Department reminds residents to “Lock It or Lose It.”
May 11-June 11
Identity theft was reported in the 200 block of South. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) used her personal information to apply for several credit cards sometime between the above dates. The victim discovered unauthorized charges on two of her
credit cards.
March 1-June 11
Theft was reported in the 500 block of S. Edgewood. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) stole the air conditioning condenser unit from the vacant residence sometime between the above dates.
June 8-June 10
Theft by deception was reported in the 100 block of S. West at 5:20 p.m. A victim told police that while attempting to sell a Sony PlayStation 4 on Facebook Marketplace between the above dates, the victim sent money and the PlayStation to the unknown suspect after believing the suspect over credited her Venmo account.
Feb. 1-June 10
Theft was reported in the 100 block of S. Villa. A victim told police that over the past several months, he has noticed cash missing from his dresser drawer. The victim was able to determine the suspect had been removing the cash. The suspect admitted to stealing the money. The victim does not want to pursue charges.
June 9
Theft by deception was recorded in the 300 block of Ridge at 5:14 p.m. A victim told police that she received several emails from an unknown suspect who posed as her cousin. The suspect instructed the victim to purchase a Google Play gift card. The victim purchased the gift card and accidentally removed the security code.
Unemployment benefits identity theft
According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported seven incidents of identity theft with the intention of using a victim’s personal information to fraudulently apply for unemployment benefits through the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Warrant arrest
June 11
Police said that subsequent to a traffic crash near Lake and Walnut at 7:20 p.m., Daniela M. Groer, 19, of Addison, a passenger in a vehicle, was found to have a valid warrant from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.
