Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Assault, battery

June 8

Anthony M. Pulido, 41, of Elmhurst, was issued citations for assault and criminal damage to property in the 900 block of Hillcrest at 2:51 p.m. According to police, a victim stated that Pulido broke a twelve-pack of beer bottles and threw some of the broken glass at him. Police said Pulido admitted to breaking the bottles but denied throwing any glass.

June 6

Castro Bonifacio, 40, of Melrose Park, was charged with battery in the 300 block of W. Lake at 3:54 p.m.

June 5

A reporting officer responded to the 300 block of W. Grand at 1:41 p.m. for a battery report. The victim stated he was at work when he was punched in the side by the suspect. The

suspect admitted to hitting the victim but stated he did so in a “playful” manner. The victim declined to sign complaints but wished to have the incident documented.

Criminal damage

June 4-June 5

A reporting officer responded to the 200 block of S. Prospect for a criminal damage to property report. The reporting officer met with the complainant who reported a fountain in front of a building had been damaged.

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance

June 8

Police said officers responded to the 900 block of Hillcrest at 2:51 p.m. for the report of a verbal domestic. A victim told police the juvenile suspect threw an ironing board at him. The suspect and the witness related the suspect pushed the ironing board over while she was walking away.

June 6

A reporting officer responded to a bar in the 500 block of S. York at 9:09 p.m. for the report of a person throwing patio chairs. Officers spoke with the suspect who stated he was upset the bar was closed. The complainant stated he did not wish to sign complaints but requested the suspect be issued a no trespass notice.

June 4

A 34-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 600 block of W. Fay at 2:10 a.m. A victim told police that the suspect struck him and medics responded to treat the victim. The suspect was located, admitted to striking the victim, and was taken into custody.

Police said that subsequent to a trespassing complaint in the 400 block of E. Schiller at 3:25 a.m., officers observed the juvenile suspect’s vehicle leaving the scene and conducted a traffic stop. The reporting officer made contact with the occupants who were found to be in violation of curfew. Juvenile 1 was cited for curfew violation, trespassing, possession of cannabis under 21, and driving during restricted time. Juvenile 2 was cited for curfew, and trespassing. Juvenile 3 was cited for curfew violation. All juveniles were released to the custody of their parents.

June 3

A 46-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with domestic battery in the 300 block of S. West at 10:55 p.m. A victim told police that the suspect was intoxicated and throwing items in the home, striking the victim. Officers observed the suspect aggressively grab the victim.

June 2

A victim in the 100 block of Knighton Place told police at 8:48 p.m.  that he was upset the suspect came over unannounced. While the suspect was moving a walker, the victim stated she scratched his leg with it. The suspect related she did not know the walker scraped the victim’s leg. Due to conflicts amongst family members, the suspect was advised to set up a schedule to visit.

DUI, DUI-drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol, illegal possession of alcohol

June 10

Karla Flores-Zamorano, 25, of Hanover Park, was charged with DUI, possession of open alcohol and driving with unsafe equipment subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Grantley at 1:19 a.m.

June 6

Alekh Meka, 25, of Naperville, was charged with DUI while Olivia Cain, 24, of Bloomington, Ill., a passenger in the vehicle, was issued a citation for unlawful possession of cannabis by a passenger near Second and Addison at 2:14 a.m.

June 5

Coraima Calderone, 27, of Wood Dale, was charged with DUI, disobeying a traffic control signal and no valid driver’s license subsequent to a vehicle crash near Route 83 and North at 4:30 a.m.

Nidh Gopagani, 20, of Willowbrook, was issued citations for failure to yield to emergency vehicle, failure to signal and unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and North at 11:52 p.m.

Amanda A.  Miller, 25, of Aurora, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, disobeying a traffic control signal, operating a vehicle with unsafe equipment and no insurance subsequent to a vehicle crash near St. Charles and York at 1:15 a.m.

Julio C. Ortiz, 19, of Addison, was charged with DUI, driving while license suspended and violating the minimum speed regulations subsequent to a traffic stop in the 300 block of N. West at 5:36 a.m.

June 3

Robert Balciunas, 68, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for public intoxication in the 100 block of N. York at 2:05 p.m. Police said officers responded for the report of a subject who was passed out in front of the establishment. Upon arrival, the subject, Balciunas, was found to be uncooperative and intoxicated, according to police. The next day, June 4, police said Balciunas was issued a citation for disorderly conduct/intoxication in the 100 block of E. First at 8:15 p.m.

Michael J. Belletire, 18, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for consumption of alcohol by a minor in the 200 block of S. Kenilworth at 11:57 p.m. Police said officers responded to the above address for a loud noise complaint. According to police, officers observed a group of people seated in the backyard and cans of beer located on the back patio furniture. Officers spoke with Belletire, and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath, police said.

Fleeing, eluding

According to information provided last week by the Elmhurst Police Department, police reported three incidents of fleeing and eluding in which drivers reportedly fled after a traffic stop was conducted.

Obstruction

June 9

While on patrol, an officer observed subjects in a park in the 300 block of E. Butterfield after hours. An officer met with the suspects and found they were under the age of 18 and were out past curfew. Juvenile Suspect 1 provided a false date of birth and false information to officers which delayed them from finding a parent for approximately one hour. She was issued citations for curfew and for obstructing, and was released to her mother on scene. Juvenile Suspect 2 was cited for curfew and released to his aunt on scene at the request of

his mother.

Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance

June 9

Marqual D. Jefferson, 20, of Willowbrook, was charged with driving while license suspended, operating a vehicle with suspended registration and unlawful possession of cannabis by driver subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Villa at 1:07 a.m.

Estrellita Soto, 27, of Franklin Park, was issued citations for unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver and no seat belt subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Lake at 7:20 p.m.

Ethan C. Zielke, 20, of Elmhurst, was issued citations for possession of adult use cannabis, under the age of 21 and possession of drug paraphernalia under the age of 21 subsequent to an investigation of a suspicious vehicle near North End and Van Auken at 10:20 p.m.

June 4

Christina Fernandez, 25, of Berwyn, was charged with no valid driver’s license, unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver, no insurance and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop in the 300 block of N. York at 9:29 p.m.

June 3

David Cusic, 65, of Westchester, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and DUI-drugs in the 200 block of E. Butterfield at 5:51 p.m. Police said that during a search Cusic’s wallet, two baggies of heroin were located.

Suspicious circumstances

June 7

Police said officers responded to the 800 block of S. Bryan at 2:07 a.m. for the report of suspicious subjects. The complainant reported two or three unknown suspects were seen walking up his driveway. The unknown suspects left the area in a dark colored sedan. The complainant reported nothing was taken.

A reporting officer met with a complainant in the 900 block of S. Hillside at 10:30 p.m. who reported they heard a knock at their door and observed two unknown suspects immediately flee. The suspects are described as 1) a teen-age white male wearing a gray sweatshirt and 2) a teen-age white male, wearing a black shirt. The reporting officer took possession of a bicycle which was left behind by one of the suspects.

June 6

Police said officers responded to the 200 block of S. Villa at 6:53 p.m. for the report of an unknown suspect attempting to gain entry to a parked vehicle. The reporting officer located the suspect who stated he was waiting for the owner of the vehicle. The reporting officer spoke with the vehicle’s owner who stated no one had permission to be on her property or in her vehicle. The victim did not observe any items missing or disturbed. The victim declined to file charges.

A reporting officer met with a victim in the 600 block of S. Bryan at 7:59 p.m. who reported documents were taken from her purse while she was asleep in her bedroom. The victim stated she believes she

knows who is responsible for the missing documents.

Theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery

March 26-June 9

Deceptive practice was reported in the 700 block of W. Lake. Police said a suspect provided a personal check for the down payment on a vehicle. The check has been returned twice for nonsufficient funds sometime between the above dates. The dealership has made several failed attempts to repossess the vehicle and will send a certified letter demanding payment. The officer attempted to contact the suspect and left a voicemail message.

June 5-June 8

Theft was reported in the 400 block of W. Butterfield. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed the catalytic converter from her vehicle sometime between the above dates while it was parked in the parking lot at the above location.

June 6-June 7

Theft was reported at Elm Creek Drive at 4:22 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed the catalytic converter from his vehicle while it was parked outside his residence sometime between the above dates.

June 6

Retail theft was reported at a store in the 100 block of E. First at 12:29 p.m. A complainant told police that, while he was busy with a customer, the suspect described as a white male entered the store and went into the back storage room where the cigarettes are kept. The complainant found two cartons of Newport cigarettes were missing.

May 1-June 7

Theft was reported in the 400 block of N. West. A reporting officer met with the victim who reported his new Permanent Resident Card is missing. The victim contacted USPS which informed him the card had been delivered; however, he never received it.

June 5

Theft was reported at a hotel in the 400 block of W. Lake at 4:05 p.m. A victim reported the suspect stole his iPhone and wallet from his hotel room. The victim confronted the suspect and chased after him as he ran out of the hotel

dropping the victim’s wallet in the parking lot. The unknown suspect entered a beige 4-door sedan and fled eastbound on Lake/.

March 1-June 4

A vehicle was reported stolen from an auto dealership in the 700 block of W. Lake sometime between the above dates. A reporting officer met with the complainant who reported a vehicle was missing from the lot. The complainant stated the vehicle’s key was placed in a lockbox. This case is pending investigation. Also at the same dealership, there was the report of theft of vehicle parts sometime between May 28 and May 31. A reporting officer spoke with the service manager who reported an unknown suspect(s) removed two dealership license plates from two separate vehicles.

May 24

Theft was reported in the 100 block of Elmwood Terrace at 3:46 p.m. A victim told police that two gold wedding bands were taken from his mother’s residence. The victim stated a company was recently in the home to do work and had access to the room where the rings are kept. An investigation is pending.

June 1, 2020-May 18

Identity theft was reported in the 1100 block of S. Eldridge. A reporting officer met with the complainant who stated he received a collection notice stating he owed money. The complainant later contacted the Farmers Branch Police Department in Texas where the incident occurred and was informed a suspect was in custody.

May 11

Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of Larch at 1:45 p.m. A victim told police that his Social Security number was used at an unknown hospital and the related bill was sent to collections. The victim states that no other activity has been reported against his credit.

April 21-April 28

Theft was reported in the 100 block of Addison. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) used his gift card information and made fraudulent purchases sometime between the above dates. The victim was in possession of the gift card. An investigation is pending.

Warrant arrest

June 9

Police said Mario A. Carlini, 20, of Elmhurst, came into the police station to turn himself in on a warrant at 12:57 a.m. Carlini was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance.

June 5

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Route 83 at 11:12 p.m., Anthony Thomas, 27, of Chicago, a passenger in a vehicle, was found to have a valid warrant out of the Chicago Police Department. Lemarius Cocroft, 20, of Chicago, the driver of the vehicle, was charged with no driver’s license, no insurance, failure to signal, unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver and improper display of registration.

Darrion Peterson, 33, of Chicago, a passenger in the vehicle, was issued citations for possession of cannabis by a passenger and possession of open alcohol.

June 3

Police said that Kevin M. Teichen, 40, of Elmhurst, came into the police station at 12:19 p.m. to turn himself in on a warrant from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.
