The City of Elmhurst has announced the hire of a new Public Works Director. Stan Balicki will assume his position on Monday, Dec. 7.
Over the past 27 years, Balicki has spent his career in public works field management and operations. Balicki comes to the City of Elmhurst after serving as the Village of Downers Grove’s assistant director of Public Works since May of 2004.
Balicki holds a Master’s of Public Administration from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Illinois. He has held previous management positions at the Village of Downers Grove; a municipality which operates similarly to the City of Elmhurst. During his tenure with Downers Grove, Balicki was responsible for several new programs and demonstrated his ability to implement innovative services to the community.
“Throughout my career I have developed an understanding of excellence in the public management setting,” stated Balicki. “I am thrilled at the opportunity to elevate the high level of service that the City of Elmhurst provides to its community.”
As director, Balicki will manage the department’s operating budget and oversee seven divisions. The Department of Public Works is responsible for overseeing essential services to the community including the City’s water supply, streets, building maintenance, forestry, refuse and recycling services, engineering and many capital projects.
“Stanley is a proven leader who has been praised for his dependable management style. I welcome him to our team and am confident that he will thrive in this position,” said Elmhurst City Manager Jim Grabowski.
