The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Criminal damage, criminal trespass
Oct. 7
While on patrol, an officer observed numerous wooden crosses on the front lawn of a church in the 700 block of S. York had been damaged. A suspicious vehicle was parked next to the church and upon seeing the officer, the vehicle fled the scene. A traffic stop was conducted and the juvenile suspect admitted to damaging the crosses, according to police. The suspect was cited for criminal damage to property and was released on scene to her parent.

A victim in the 100 block of Linden told police that an unknown suspect etched expletives on the hood of his minivan and the right rear quarter panel of his truck while they were parked in his
Driveway sometime between the above dates.
Sept. 30-Oct. 1
A complainant at a business in the 100 block of N. Addison told police that several kitchen cabinets were slashed with a sharp object sometime between the above dates. The victim believes that the suspect damaged the cabinets after learning of his termination.
Sept. 27-Oct. 1
A victim in the 300 block of E. Church told police that an unknown suspect scratched an expletive on the hood of her car while it was parked in her driveway sometime between the above dates.
Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, damage to property, disturbance
Oct. 4
A 39-year-old Westmont woman was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 600 block of W. North at around 6:09 p.m. A reporting officer met with the victim who was intoxicated and became uncooperative. The suspect stated she was involved in a verbal argument with the victim which escalated with her kicking the victim.
Police said a reporting officer met with complainant in the 200 block of N. Addison who stated she witnessed her ex-boyfriend keying her car while it was parked in the driveway outside her residence. The complainant stated she attempted to stop the suspect but he then allegedly pushed her and continued to damage the vehicle. The reporting officer spoke with the suspect who denied being in Elmhurst at the time of the incident and stated he was at a friend’s house. No arrests were made due to conflicting statements from both parties and no signs of injury.
Oct. 1
A victim told police at around 7:50 p.m. that she was involved in a verbal argument with the suspect. The suspect was not cooperative with officers and the victim left the residence. The victim returned to the residence and the suspect would not let her into the apartment. The victim stated that the suspect sent her incoherent text messages and she was concerned for her well-being. The suspect’s sister signed an involuntary committal and the suspect was transported to the hospital by medics.
Aug. 19
A victim in the 100 block of S. Route 83 told police at around noon that subsequent to an argument in a parking
lot, a suspect struck her in the mouth. An investigation is pending.
DUI, DUI-drugs, possession of alcohol in public
Oct. 5
Eric Alesi, 27, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI in the 100 block of N. Palmer at around 2:12 a.m.
Oct. 4
Emily Hernandez, 22, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI and disobeying a traffic control device subsequent to a traffic stop near N. York and E. Third at around 8:53 p.m.
Oct. 3
Lewis McCracken, 25, of Aurora, was charged with DUI and improper parking on the roadway subsequent to a report of a driver slumped behind the wheel near W. St. Charles and S. West at around 9:07 a.m.
Oct. 2
Marquita S. Banks, 36, of Chicago, was charged with DUI, injuring city property, no valid driver’s license, no valid registration, improper lane usage and no insurance in the 600 block of Fairview at around 2:01 a.m. Police said Banks’ vehicle was found to have struck a parkway tree.
Harassment, threats
Oct. 5-Oct. 7
A victim in the 200 block of Addison told police that an unknown suspect(s) texted and called him regarding money he owed for goods and services sometime between the above dates. The unknown suspect threatened the victim if payment was not received. The victim blocked the phone number. An investigation is pending.
Oct. 5
A complainant in the 400 block of W. Lake told police at around 2:08 p.m. that the business has received several harassing and vulgar phone calls from the suspect. The suspect was notified to have no further contact with the business.
Oct. 3
A complainant in the 100 block of N. Willow told police at around 3:38 p.m. that she received a voicemail message from her ex-boyfriend threatening to harm her current boyfriend. The reporting officer contacted the suspect who stated he was intoxicated and did not remember the content of the message. The suspect agreed to cease all contact with the victim.

Kassandra C. Cruz, 26, of Maywood, was charged with possession of cannabis by a driver, driving while license suspended, improper display of registration and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Addison and North at around 12:27 a.m.

George P. Athanasakos, 22, of Wood Dale, was issued citations for possession of cannabis in a vehicle by a driver and speeding, while John A. Portillo, 23, of Addison, was cited for possession of cannabis in a vehicle by a passenger subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and I-290 at around 11:51 p.m.

Enrique Bonilla, 25, of Berkeley, was issued citations for possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near E. St. Charles and Fair at around 7:48 p.m.
Public indecency
Oct. 2
A victim in the 600 block of W. North who is a hairstylist told police at around 1:53 p.m. that a suspect, who is a regular customer, came in for a haircut and shampoo. The victim reported that while she was washing his hair, the suspect was observed masturbating inside his pants. The victim states the suspect has also displayed this behavior in the past. Charges are pending further investigation.
Suspicious circumstances
Oct. 5
Police said a reporting officer met with a complainant in the 400 block of W. Lake who stated a suspect became irate after he was refused a check-in at a hotel. The complainant stated the suspect has stayed at the hotel before and has had issues with him before. The suspect was issued a no-trespass order per the complainant.
Oct. 3
Police said officers responded to the 100 block of N. York at around 12:06 a.m. for the report of a patron who threw a glass at a bartender. The reporting officer reviewed the bar’s surveillance video which showed the suspect throw a glass striking the cash register. The suspect was served with a no-trespass notice.
Oct. 2
A victim in the 900 block of Hillside told police at around 1:05 p.m. that his next-door neighbor entered his front yard and took down some holiday yard decorations. Officers observed several of the victim’s decorations were indeed torn down. Officers made contact with the subject who related she was upset over personal issues and this caused her to knock down the victim’s yard decorations. A no-trespass notice was issued to the subject prohibiting her from entering the victim’s property.

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 500 block of Spring. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered his unsecured Mercury Marquis and removed his Illinois driver’s license, an Illinois Firearms Owner Identification (FOID) card, as well as other personal items, sometime between the above dates. The victim’s driver’s license was entered into LEADS and a message was sent via LEADS to the Illinois State Police Firearms Bureau regarding the victim’s FOID card.

Theft was reported at York High School at around 10:51 a.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect removed 39 parking space signs.

Theft was reported at an auto dealership in the 200 block of W. Grand. A reporting officer met with an employee who stated an unknown suspect removed a set of four wheels, tires, and mounting hardware from a dealer-owned vehicle sometime between the above dates.

Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of Elm Tree Lane. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) used her information to apply for unemployment benefits through Illinois Department of Employment Security sometime between the above dates.

A victim at a company in the 400 block of W. Monroe told police that an unknown suspect stole his white Freightliner Cascadia semi-tractor while it was parked at the west side of the parking lot sometime between the above dates. The vehicle was locked and the victim has all of the vehicle’s keys. The vehicle was entered into LEADS.
July 1-Oct. 1
Forgery was reported at a bank in the 700 block of W. North. A complainant called the police department to report that an unknown suspect(s) deposited a fraudulent check at their branch located in Elmhurst sometime between the above dates.
Sept. 29
Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of N. York at around 9:33 a.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect(s) used her information to apply for unemployment benefits through Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Sept. 15-Sept. 30
Theft was reported in the 100 block of N. Addison. A victim told police that can lights, body sprays, and a chop saw were missing from the ground level of their construction site. The victim believes that the suspect stole the items sometime between the above dates after learning of his termination. An investigation is pending.
Sept. 22
Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of S. York at around 1:06 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) applied for unemployment benefits through the Illinois Department of Employment using his information.
Aug. 19
Identity theft was reported in the 200 block of S. Pick at around 8:09 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect used her personal information to obtain an apartment lease in New Jersey. The victim contacted her bank and learned of three unauthorized withdrawals from her checking account.
April 17-April 20
Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of Chandler. A victim told police that an unknown suspect hacked his email account and obtained access to banking information sometime between the above dates. The victim later discovered an unauthorized withdrawal. The victim stated he was in contact with his bank in order to have the money returned.
Unlawful use of a weapon
Oct. 5
Ryan Behnke, 36, of Homewood, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon in the 600 block of W. North at around 11:04 p.m. Police said a reporting officer located a vehicle in the parking lot that was reported stolen out of Palatine. Behnke admitted to being in possession of a stun gun, according to police.
Warrant arrest
Oct. 3
Police said John Tibbs, 58, of Elmhurst, came into the police station to surrender himself on a valid warrant out of the Rolling Meadows Police Department. The warrant was confirmed by the Rolling Meadows Police Department, according to police.
Oct. 1
Police said officers responded to the 900 block of S. York at around 10:35 p.m. for a report of a subject who was attempting to enter a closed business. According to police, officers met with the subject, Daniel D. Marchwiany, 31, of Glen Ellyn, and learned that he had
two valid warrants from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.
