The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Criminal damage, criminal trespass
Sept. 25
A victim in the 400 block of Walnut told police at around 10:47 p.m. that recently he found damage to his garage door. He subsequently installed a surveillance camera at the front of the residence. On the above date, his video showed three teenagers running up the driveway and slamming their shoulders into the victim’s garage door. The three suspects were located, and juvenile disposition is pending.

Sept. 29
A complainant in the 800 block of S. Poplar told police at around 11:54 a.m. that she was involved in an argument with the suspect which turned physical when the suspect grabbed her arms and shook her. The reporting officer spoke with the suspect who denied ever touching the complainant. There were no signs of any physical injuries and the suspect left the residence.
Sept. 27
A reporting officer met with a complainant in the 500 block of S. York who stated he was involved in a verbal argument with a suspect after he was refused service for not wearing a mask. The complainant stated the suspect threatened to harm him before getting into a black Kia Optima and leaving the scene. The suspect stated he argued with the complainant but denied threatening to harm him. Due to conflicting statements, no further action was taken.
Sept. 25
Edward A. Berg, 58, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for possession of open liquor on public property near Swain and the Prairie Path at around 12:48 p.m.
A 34-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 900 block of N. York at around 7:34 p.m. According to police, Victim #1 related that subsequent to a verbal argument, the intoxicated suspect choked him and struck Victim #2 on top of the head. There were no signs of injury to
the victims. Police said the suspect admitted to pushing one of the victims during the argument.
Sept. 24
A 29-year-old Chicago man was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 300 block of N. Route 83 at around 4:48 p.m. A victim told police that subsequent to an argument on Sept. 23, the
suspect had struck her. An officer observed that the victim had a bloodshot and bruised left eye, a scratch beneath the eye and bruises on her forearms.

Sept. 29
James Humphries, 22, of Berkeley, was charged with DUI, illegal transportation of open alcohol, speeding and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near S. Bryan and W. Butterfield at around 9 p.m.
Sept. 27
Charles Rogers, 29, of Rockford, was charged with DUI, unlawful possession of adult-use cannabis in a vehicle, improper lane usage and driving on the wrong side of the roadway subsequent to a single-vehicle crash near Lake and Walnut at around 10:45 p.m.
Fleeing, eluding
Sept. 28
Police said officers were alerted to a robbery that occurred in Villa Park with four suspects leaving in a black Audi towards Lake Street at around 11:50 a.m. The reporting officer located the vehicle at the above intersection and attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspected vehicle fled from officers at a high rate of speed and was last seen headed northbound on York and eventually driving onto I-290.
Sept. 26
Police said officer responded to the 400 block of E. May at around 11:43 a.m. to assist the Illinois State Police with a search of four suspects that fled the scene of a property damage accident. All four suspects were seen running westbound from the May Street area. Officers apprehended one suspect and turned him over to the Illinois State Police.
Police said that at around 10:15 p.m., a reporting officer near Route 83 and Fay attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a multi-colored, newer model sport-style motorcycle with no license plate. The driver accelerated from the right lane and fled from the officer. The unknown suspect had a black full-face helmet with a white insignia on the back and was wearing a black sweatshirt also with a white insignia on the back.

Sept. 29
A complainant told police at around 6:04 p.m. that her daughter was having issues with her friends who were sending her inappropriate text messages. The reporting officer contacted the other girls and requested they stop sending messages to the victim.

Sept. 30
Irvin Valdez, 23, of Melrose Park, was issued citations for possession of cannabis by a driver, speeding and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Addison at around 7:27 p.m.
Sept. 25
David S. Alcala, 64, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, driving while license suspended, no seat belt and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Ferndale at around 12:05 p.m. Police said a search of Alcala yielded a folded-up bill containing suspected cocaine. According to police, Alcala also had an active warrant from the Wheeling Police Department.
Julianne Czubek, 30, of Palatine, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic needle and possession of drug paraphernalia in the 600 block of W. North at around 9:35 p.m. Police said officers and medics responded to the above location for the report of a drug overdose. According to police, Czubek related she was attempting to consume heroin, but was not experiencing an overdose and signed a refusal for treatment.
Juan C. Rodriguez, 37, of Cicero, was issued citations for unlawful possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle and no seat belt subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Villa at around 9:43 p.m.

Sergio L. Saucedo, 32, of Franklin Park, was issued citations for possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Villa at around 12:28 p.m.
Suspicious circumstances
Sept. 28
A complainant in the 300 block of S. York told police at around 4:27 p.m., an unknown suspect entered his enclosed front porch earlier in the afternoon and began playing with some of his child’s toys. When confronted, the suspect asked if the residence was holding an art class before leaving.

Sept. 30
Deceptive practice was reported at a vehicle service business in the 500 block of W. North at around 10:12 a.m. A complainant told police that a suspect dropped off her vehicle for an engine replacement. The suspect provided a cashier’s check and was given a loaner vehicle for 13 days. The complainant later learned the cashier’s check bounced due to the account being closed. The complainant spoke with the suspect who stated she was currently unable to pay for the repairs. This case is pending investigation.
Deceptive practice was reported in the 900 block of Hillcrest at around 2:10 p.m. A victim told police that he was having issues with his online bank account so he attempted to contact customer service. The victim stated he spoke with a subject who identified himself as a bank employee and provided him with his debit card information. The victim later realized he misdialed the phone number and the person he spoke with was not a bank employee. The victim contacted his bank and placed a hold on his account. No money was lost.
Sept. 29
A reporting officer met with employees at a restaurant in the 900 block of N. York who stated they opened the front door and heard the safe alarm going off. They observed broken glass from the drive-through window and saw the safe had been cut open. Responding officers were able to view the surveillance video and observed two suspects break the drive-through window and crawl across the floor to the office. Suspect 1 was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, a white mask and blue sweatpants. Suspect 2 was wearing a black jacket, green sweatpants with a white mask. Both were wearing gloves and they had one backpack. This case is pending investigation.
Sept. 27-Sept. 28
Theft was reported at a car dealership in the 700 block of Industrial Drive. Police said an unknown suspect took the rear tires and rims from two of their vehicles while they were parked in their lot sometime between the above dates.
Sept. 24-Sept. 25
Theft was reported in the 800 block of Howard. A victim told police that the property is under construction and an unknown suspect(s) stole two unsecured ladders from the rear of the property sometime between the above dates.
Sept. 20
A complainant in the 400 block of N. Larch told police at around 6:31 p.m. that he left a camera in the back seat of a ride share vehicle. The complainant contacted the driver who denied taking the camera but stated he does not check his vehicle after every ride and had approximately ten other Uber customers after the complainant.
Sept. 2
Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of S. Kenmore at around 11:52 a.m. A victim told police he received a letter from Illinois Department of Employment Security stating they had received his request for unemployment benefits, which he had not applied for. The victim will report the issue to IDES.
Nov. 18, 2019-April 18
Fraud was reported in the 400 block of S. Parkview between the above dates. A victim told police that he discovered several unauthorized charges on his credit card. The victim reviewed statements which showed several charges since November of 2019.
