The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Aug. 31
A complainant near Myrtle and North told police at around 7:30 p.m. A complainant told police there was graffiti on the west wall of the pedestrian underpass at North and Myrtle.
DUI, DUI-drugs, possession of alcohol in public
Sept. 2
Jennifer Nava Morales, 22, of Addison, was charged with DUI, possession of cannabis in a vehicle and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Ferndale at around 1:04 a.m. Police said a search of the vehicle yielded cannabis and suspected LSD.
Aug. 29
Daniel Dworak, 30, of Morton Grove, was charged with DUI, possession of a controlled substance, speeding and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Berteau at around 2:30 a.m. Police said a search of Dworak’s vehicle yielded a small baggie containing cocaine.
Police said a suspect at a car wash in the 600 block of W. North was waiting to go through the car wash, honking his horn and ignored the attendant’s instructions. As the victim approached the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect yelled obscenities, spat on him and left the scene. The victim did not wish to pursue charges. The officer provided the suspect with a no-trespass notice.

Sept. 2
A victim near Third and Maison told police at around 2:56 p.m. that a suspect described as a black male in his 30s with a short buzz haircut, a large belly, wearing a white button-down shirt and black pants exposed himself after asking if she wanted a ride. The suspect was driving a blue or gray SUV crossover-style vehicle.

Sept. 2
Malcolm J. Maxfield, 29, of Chicago, was issued citations for possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle and tinted windows subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Poplar at around 11:59 p.m.
Sept. 1
Samuel Smith, 28, of Chicago, was issued citations for possession of cannabis by a driver, driving while license suspended and tinted windows subsequent to a traffic stop near I-290 and York at around 12:51 p.m.
Aug. 29
Anthony M. Dixon, 20, of Melrose Park, was charged with possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of cannabis by the driver and two counts of damage to property subsequent to a traffic crash near Butterfield and Stratford at around 8:11 a.m.
Mariana Puentez, 22, of East Chicago, Ind., was charged with possession of cannabis in a vehicle, driving while license suspended, improper lane usage and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Michigan and North at around 12:11 a.m.

Nicholas Mato, 22, of Elmhurst, was issued citations for possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle and no lights when required, while Lucas Alexander, 22, of Elmhurst, was cited for possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Crestview at around 12:20 a.m.
Luis A. Sanchez-Lopez, 31, of Chicago, was issued citations for unlawful possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle and no seat belt subsequent to a traffic stop near Glade and North at around 9:15 a.m.
Raynell Steele, 31, of Cicero, was issued citations for possession of cannabis by the driver and disobeying a traffic control device subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Park at around 8:48 p.m.

Sept. 1-Sept. 2
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 300 block of N. Kenilworth. While an officer was on patrol, police said the officer observed the trunk of a vehicle open and miscellaneous items were laying on the street next to the vehicle. The victim told police he must have left his vehicle unlocked and was missing tools.
Aug. 26-Sept. 1
Deceptive practice was reported at a car dealership in the 200 block of W. Grand. A complainant told police that a week ago, a suspect purchased a vehicle with a personal check, which came back non-sufficient funds between the above dates. On Sept. 1, the suspect was in South Dakota and attempted to trade in the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody by the Spink County Sheriff’s Office and was charged with possession of stolen property. The vehicle was recovered.
Aug. 21-Sept. 1
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 400 block of W. Lake. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) stole two medical testers and tools from the side hatch of his locked Ford F-150 work truck while it was parked overnight in a hotel parking lot.
Aug. 31
Theft was reported in the 1000 block of N. County Line at around 7:08 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) removed the rear license plate from his white Ford 3500 box truck. The license plate was entered into LEADS as stolen.
Aug. 29
Theft was reported in the 400 block of N. York at around 12:20 p.m. A victim told police that she went to a local store and may have briefly left her purse unattended in a shopping cart. Later that day, she could not find her wallet. The wallet is described as having an orange and white floral pattern containing her temporary Illinois driver’s license, a state identification card, $130 in cash and various credit cards.
Police said witnesses observed an unknown female subject exit a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 11:22 p.m. without paying for a shopping cart filled with hair care products and over the counter medication. She was able to load one bag into a vehicle before she and three other suspects fled the scene southbound on York. The shopping cart filled with merchandise was recovered at the scene.
Aug. 23
Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of E. 1st at around 1:05 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) used her personal information to apply for unemployment benefits through the IDES. The victim’s employer declined the fraudulent claim and are working with Equifax to obtain more information.
Aug. 10
Identity theft was reported in the 500 block of Crockett at around 11:31 a.m. A victim told police they received a prepaid debit card from the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES). The victim did not apply for unemployment benefits.
