The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
May 30
A victim reports while walking on the Prairie Path near Poplar at around 8:19 a.m., an unknown suspect described as a black male struck her back left shoulder as he passed her eastbound. The suspect stopped, did not turn around and then continued running eastbound on the Prairie Path.

May 31
A 37-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with domestic battery in the 700 block of S. Bryan at around 11:09 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a patrol of the area, a reporting officer met with the victim who stated the suspect pushed and hit him. The suspect admitted during a verbal argument he lost his temper and pushed the victim, police said.
May 30
Malik Tony Smith, 23, of Hammond, Ind., was issued a citation for disorderly conduct-befouling property in the 300 block of E. Butterfield at around 7:11 p.m. Police said an officer observed Smith standing next to his vehicle with the passenger side door open. As the officer approached the vehicle, he observed that Smith was urinating.
May 29
An officer responded to the lobby of the police station for the report of a road rage incident near North and Route 83. The complainant told police that while she was driving, the suspect aggressively forced her vehicle into another lane and yelled at the complainant. The reporting officer attempted to make contact with the suspect with no results. Upon speaking with the complainant, she advised the officer that she no longer wished to pursue charges.

A complainant in the 500 block of Fern told police at around 4:48 p.m. that two unknown suspects broke his landscaping light and damaged a yard sign. The complainant did not wish to pursue charges.
DUI, DUI-drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol
June 3
Marcella Spizziri, 34, of Melrose Park, was charged with DUI-drugs, improper lane usage and failure to signal subsequent to a traffic stop near I-290 and North at around 12:15 a.m.
May 30
According to police, while an officer was on patrol near Cottage Hill and Virginia at around 4:36 a.m., the officer observed a teenage subject having trouble balancing while she rode her bike. Upon speaking with the subject, the officer learned she was under the age of 21 and he detected an odor of alcohol coming from the subject’s breath. The subject admitted to drinking two beers and was cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor, then released at the scene to her parent.

Justin C. Miramonte, 20, of Elmhurst, was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor in the 100 block of E. First at around 9:28 p.m.
Suspicious circumstances
May 30
A reporting officer observed a suspected vehicle traveling at an extremely high rate of speed near Route 83 and I-290 at around 12:10 a.m. An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle accelerated to speeds of more than 100 mph. The officer did not pursue the vehicle.

June 2
Theft of services was reported at a car rental company in the 800 block of N. York at around 11:24 a.m. A reporting officer responded to the above address for a report of a delayed vehicle theft. The complainant reported a vehicle she rented to a customer had not yet been returned. A reporting officer attempted to make contact with the suspect with no results. The case is pending investigation.
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 600 block of N. Willow at around 1:30 a.m. A complainant told police that an unknown suspect entered two locked tool cargo boxes on his truck. The suspect took a drill and nail gun.
May 20-June 2
Forgery was reported in the 200 block of N. York. A complainant told police that a check had been altered to be paid to the suspect sometime between the above dates. No one authorized the check to be altered. The case is pending investigation.
May 31
Commercial burglary was reported at a cell phone dealership in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 2:10 p.m. Police said approximately 12 suspects entered store and broke the locked door leading into the back room. They then took three large boxes filled with numerous phone cases. The suspects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.
May 30
Retail theft was reported at a store in the 600 block of N. York at around 4:26 p.m. A complainant told police that video surveillance shows an unknown suspect described as a white male between the age of 25 and 45 reportedly concealing over-the-counter medication on his person and then exiting the store without paying for the merchandise.
Attempted retail theft was reported in the 100 block of Oak at around 4:33 p.m. A victim told police that his home video surveillance showed a suspect described as a black male between 16 and 20 years old touching and turning the locked doorknob in an attempt to gain entry to the front door of the garage. The attempt was unsuccessful.
May 24-May 30
Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of Washington. A victim told police that he received a letter in the mail from the Illinois Department of Employment Security regarding a claim for unemployment benefits. The victim told police an unknown suspect used his personal information to file the fraudulent unemployment claim.
May 29
Retail theft was reported at a pharmacy in the 100 block of N. Robert Palmer at around 8:14 p.m. While monitoring the store’s video surveillance, a complainant observed two suspects placing several cosmetic items into bags and leaving the store without paying for the merchandise. Both suspects were described as Hispanic males between the ages of 18 and 21.
May 28
A vehicle was reported stolen at an auto dealership in the 300 block of W. Grand at around 4:06 p.m. Police said a complainant related that a 2018 silver Honda Civic was parked in their lot and was scheduled for service. A porter from the victim’s company arrived to retrieve the vehicle, but neither the vehicle nor the car key could be found. The complainant believes the key was left inside of the vehicle, which was entered into LEADS.
May 20-May 26
Forgery was reported at Elmhurst College. A complainant related that the suspects created and attempted to cash 15 fraudulent checks containing the victim’s account information between the above dates. An investigation is pending.
May 24
Identity theft was reported in the 200 block of N. Oak at around 8:52 a.m. A victim told police that while checking his bank statements, he discovered an unauthorized transaction for two airline tickets. The victim contacted his bank and they cancelled his credit card.
Unlawful use of a weapon
June 2
Steven Cantore, 30, of Joliet, and Giuseppe Lombardo, 30, of Addison, were charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon near York and Adelaide at around 5:11 p.m. Police said officers responded to the above location for the report of two subjects in public armed with rifles and vests. According to police, they were found to have been in possession of rifles and ballistic vests. Upon further investigation it was learned both suspects were hired as security by a local business, but were not supposed to leave the premise. Lombardo had a revoked FOID card, according to police.
