The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
May 24
Christopher Freeman, 19, of Elmhurst, was charged with battery near Schiller and Haven at around 10:25 a.m. According to police, the victim told police that Freeman pushed him off his bicycle and fled the scene.
A reporting officer responded to Elmhurst Hospital at around 7:30 p.m. for the report of a sexual assault. Upon further investigation, it was determined the assault occurred in Chicago. Chicago Police was notified and would conduct a follow-up investigation with the victim.
A reporting officer responded to Elmhurst Hospital at around 5:21 p.m. to assist with a reported sexual assault. Upon further investigation, it was determined the assault occurred in Lake in the Hills. The reporting officer contacted Lake in the Hills police, who would conduct a follow-up investigation.
May 23
Police said officers responded to the report of a retail theft and battery that had just occurred in the 900 block of S. York at around 3:37 p.m. The victim, an employee at a local store, observed the suspect conceal five bottles of vodka in a backpack. The victim confronted the suspect who subsequently punched the victim and fled the scene without paying for the merchandise. The victim sustained a laceration above his eye. A witness observed the suspect fleeing eastbound on Butterfield on a bicycle. The suspect was described as a black male between 25 and 35 years old, weighing between 180 and 200 pounds, an average build with a beard and wearing a white helmet, a safety vest and a backpack.
Domestic battery, domestic incident, disorderly conduct, disturbance
May 27
Doug W. Mosher, 53, of Aurora, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct-befouling property at a business in the 800 block of N. York at around 1:14 p.m. Police said an officer responded to a report of a subject who defecated next to a dumpster behind the business. According to police, Mosher left the area and returned after the officer contacted him.
A 27-year-old Elmhurst woman was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 600 block of N. West at around 9:28 p.m. A victim told police that when the suspect was granted entry to the apartment, the suspect struck the victim, knocking the victim to the ground. Then they began to physically fight.
May 24
Police said an officer responded for a well-being check in the 500 block of Adele at around 2:52 a.m. A complainant told police he was not able to reach the suspect and wanted to make sure she was all right. He further stated he and the suspect were involved in a physical altercation earlier in the day, which caused an injury to the victim. The suspect related she was fine and that the victim’s injury occurred when he tackled her. Due to conflicting accounts, no arrests were made.
DUI, DUI-drugs, illegal transportation of alcohol
May 24
Carl B. Baker, 19, of Elmhurst, was issued citations for obstruction of justice and unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor, while Kevin M. Haag, 18, of Lombard; Claire M. Kopec, 19, of Elmhurst; and Mya N. Lawless, 18, of Elmhurst, were issued citations for consumption of alcohol by a minor in the 700 block of S. Parkside at around 1:54 a.m. Police said officers responded to a report of a group of teens causing a disturbance. Upon arrival, an officer observed several male subjects running from the scene, according to police. The suspects were located and police found they had consumed alcohol. Baker allegedly providing a false name to an officer.
May 21
Philip Calabrese, 53, of Berkeley, was charged with DUI-drugs, improper lane usage and failure to yield to an audible signal near Schiller and Pine at around 2:58 p.m.
Harassment, threats
May 24
A victim in the 100 block of E. South told police that at around 3:37 p.m., he received a threatening message from the suspect, who displayed a silver and black handgun. The gun was found to be a broken BB gun. All parties involved were informed not to have any further contact with each other.
Obstruction
May 25
Police said that subsequent to a complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of N. Emory at around 6:27 a.m., a reporting officer made contact with the driver. During the contact the suspect reversed his vehicle, striking the officer’s arm and torso. The suspect then fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The suspect’s vehicle was later located at an address in Addison and was towed from the scene. Warrants are to be issued.
Possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia
May 27
Gregory B. Martin, 44, of Villa Park, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance near Berkley and St. Charles at around 5:40 p.m. Police said Martin was located sitting on a park bench, and in plain view was a clear plastic Ziploc bag containing suspected heroin. Martin admitted to possessing the baggie of heroin, according to police.
Lawrence Watley Jr., 18, of Bellwood, was issued citations for possession of adult use cannabis in a vehicle, no valid driver’s license-privilege invalidated and tinted windows. The arrest took place near Butterfield and Commonwealth at around 2:01 p.m.
May 21
Rachel L. Jones, 33, of Romeoville, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, DUI-drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper lane usage and no insurance near Roosevelt and Butterfield at around 8:27 p.m. Police said a search of Jones’ vehicle yielded cut straws containing heroin residue.

May 26
Jamie A. Wetzel, 33, of Glendale Heights, was charged with retail theft and two counts of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia at a store in the 900 block of S. York at around 3:07 p.m. Police said Wetzel fled the scene in a maroon Chevrolet Malibu occupied by two male subjects. An officer located the suspect’s vehicle and performed a traffic stop. According to police, Wetzel was positively identified and was placed under arrest. Police said a search of the suspect yielded four bottles of Gentleman Jack Daniels, a bottle of ibuprofen, a bag of laundry pods, three cut straws and a crack pipe.
Retail theft was reported in the 600 block of N. York at around 4:13 p.m. A witness told police that while in the parking lot, he observed two suspects sprint out of the store with shopping carts full of liquor. The suspects proceeded to load the liquor into two occupied dark colored sedans parked with their trunks open and the engines running. One of the suspects was described as a black male with a thin build, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, a red cloth face mask, dark blue jeans and black basketball shoes with multicolored soles. The second suspect was described as a black male with a thin build, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with the hood up, a blue medical face mask, acid-washed blue jeans and white basketball shoes.

Theft was reported in the 100 block of N. Michigan at around 3:36 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a medic assist, the victim stated she believes her caregiver had taken some of her prescription medication. The victim related she did not know the caregiver’s name or phone number. This case is pending investigation.

Identity theft was reported in the 700 block of Michigan at around 10:44 a.m. A victim told police that she was notified by her employer that a claim for unemployment benefits was filed in her name with the Illinois Department of Employment Security. She advised that she did not file the unemployment claim and she was unable to access the website as a login had already been created by the suspect.
May 22-May 23
A car was reported stolen from a vehicle rental business in the 600 block of W. North sometime between the above dates. The complainant, an employee, told police that an unknown suspect(s) stole a white 2009 Ford Econoline truck. The padlock securing the key box for the truck was cut and the key was used to gain access to the truck.
May 22
Fabian J. Dawkins, 26, of Downers Grove, was charged with theft and obstructing a police officer near Second and Bonnie Brae at around 12:50 p.m. Police said Dawkins also was found to have a valid warrant from the Clarendon Hills Police Department. Police said while on patrol, an officer observed two suspicious subjects walk out of the wooded area carrying two laptop computers. According to police, Dawkins subsequently ran northbound from the area. The victim related that Dawkins relinquished the computers after admitting to stealing them, police said.
May 21
Theft of vehicle parts was reported at a business in the 100 block of W. Diversey at around 8:40 a.m. A complainant told police that when he arrived at work in the morning, he found a semi-tractor parked in their lot for service, which was missing four tires. There was also another semi-tractor whose tire valves were cut.
Retail theft was reported at a pharmacy in the 100 block of N. Palmer at around 4:28 p.m. A complainant told police that Suspect #1 entered the store and placed several over-the-counter medications into a shopping basket. When Suspect #1 was confronted, he exited the store leaving the basket behind, but set off the security alarms. Video surveillance showed Suspect #1 and Suspect #2—described as an Hispanic male around 35 years old—concealing unknown over-the-counter medication on their persons and exiting the store without paying for the merchandise.
May 20
Identity theft was reported in the 200 block of Adelia at around 9:25 a.m. A victim told police that over the past month, he has received several denial notifications for auto loans and learned that an unknown suspect used his personal information to open a fraudulent AT&T account. His employer recently informed him that an unknown suspect attempted to use his Social Security number to draw unemployment benefits. An investigation is pending.
May 15-May 19
Identity theft was reported in the 300 block of S. West. After finding several unauthorized withdrawals from her checking account between the above dates, the victim noticed that her debit card was missing from her purse.
May 15
Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of Addison at around 11:29 a.m. A victim told police that he received a letter from the Illinois Department of Security referencing unemployment benefits. The letter was dated May 15, and showed his employment status as “unemployed,” however, he is currently employed. He checked his credit history and found that a fraudulent Capital One credit account was opened in his name. An investigation is pending.

Police said Isaac E. Underwood, 28, of Chicago, had an active warrant from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office near Church and York at around 12:35 p.m.
