Margaret J. (Peg) Bogosh, nee Meyer, age 84, died April 28, 2020, at Brookdale Senior Living in Glen Ellyn.
A family visitation and funeral service will be held Friday, May 8, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, at noon. Due to the state regulations the family will be adhering to the social distancing guidelines. JOHN BARTLETT BRUST
John “Jack” Bartlett Brust, age 92, longtime resident of Lombard and civic leader, died April 27, 2020, at his home in Hayward, Wisconsin. Veteran U.S. Army WWII. Jack was the Founder of the Brust Funeral Home in Lombard and Carol Stream.
A Family Funeral Service was held on Monday, May 4, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, Illinois. Interment followed at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
Jack was the beloved husband of Jacqueline J., nee Kahrs, the late Marilyn Fritz, nee Kelley, and the late Anita, nee Raasch; dear father of John Brandon (Karen) of Lombard, Clara Bonnie (the late James) Fiebrandt of Lombard, Thomas E. (Susan) of Minnesota and James F. of Carol Stream; dear step-father of John (Germaine) Fritz of Arizona, Denise (Stephen) Sheehan of Glen Ellyn, Suzanne (Mark) Marshall of Glen Ellyn and Christopher Kahrs of Washington; grandfather of 13, James Bartlett (Kate) Fiebrandt of NC, Tom (Brittany) Fiebrandt of Maryland, Katherine A. (Adam) Dickens of Elmhurst, Kristin (John) Robinson of Glen Ellyn, John Christian (Ashley) Brust of Minneapolis, Kelsie (John E.) Schmit of Denmark, Margaret Brust of Chicago, Max Brust of Wisconsin, T. Erik (Sarah Beth) Brust of Minnesota, Heidi A. Brust of Carol Stream, Ted Brust of Lombard, Kristina Brust of Minnesota, and Erik John Fiebrandt of Lombard; loving step-grandfather of 12 and great-grandfather of 20; brother of the late Kenneth (Ruth).
Jack was a graduate of Proviso East High School. He attended the University of Illinois Champaign and Illinois Benedictine University. He was a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Service.
During WWII Jack served as a surgical tech in the Medical Corps, helping in the recovery of those coming home from the hospitals in Europe.
After establishing Brust Funeral Home in 1952, Jack played many vital roles that helped shape Lombard into the fine town it is today. His beliefs in the growth and strength of community were illustrated by a diverse range of community services throughout his many years in Lombard.
He came to Lombard, after WWII Army Service, committed to its future. His father’s and grandfather’s families, and his wife, Anita’s, family, had all grown up in Lombard.
Jack Brust has been president of organizations such as Lombard’s Chamber of Commerce, the Lion’s Club, Rotary Club, Friends of the Library and was the very first president and founder of the Lombard YMCA. He was an active member of the Lombard Bi-Centennial Commission, the Library Board & Planning Commission, and the Chairman of the Log Cabin Committee during the county’s Bicentennial. He was chairman of the committee that saved the Sheldon Peck Homestead.
His involvement in the business community and good working relationship with other local businessmen led him to start the Lombard Chamber of Commerce in 1955. Jack was a senior active member of Lombard Rotary.
In 1957, the resumption of the Lilac Parade, after its having been discontinued during the war years, was successful due to the efforts of Jack Brust, Marty Reese and Billy Ayers. He served with the Lilac Parade Committee for twelve years and was Chairman for 6 years.
Brust Funeral Home has sponsored the Helen Plum Library float for over 40 years and continues to do so today. Jack was a member and former Trustee of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church. He also served there as a captain of the Dart Team.
Jack was instrumental in establishing the Lombard Historical Museum and the Lombard Historical Commission, which led to the establishment of the Lombard Historical Society of which he is a Life Member. He was chairman of the Historical Commission for several decades
Jack was appointed as chairman of the Peck House Preservation Committee in which he was able to acquire a $100,000 grant for its restoration. Without his connections, the Peck House would not have been saved. Later, photographs of the Sheldon Peck family, tintypes and two family Bibles inscribed by the Peck family, were given to Jack Brust. Upon receiving news of the gift, he donated them back to the Lombard Historical Society as the start of the collection at the Peck House.
Jack was a chairman for the Maple Street Chapel Endowment Fund. He was the head of its endowment as a non-church member for 15 + years. He served for 12 years on the Village Public Protection Committee and Planning Committee. He was the founder of the Lombard Businessmen’s Association.
In 1991, after the establishment of a Brust Funeral Home branch in Carol Stream, he was named their Citizen of the Year for his civic involvement there, including starting their Chamber of Commerce. Jack also served 25 years as Governor for the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Jack retired in 1997. He was honored as Distinguished Governor in 1995. He was Lombard Man of the Year in 1960. He was Grand Marshal of the Lombard Lilac Parade twice. Jack sang with the Suburban Veteran’s Chorus.
Jack Brust served thousands of DuPage families at his business over the years. He was compassionate with all people he came in contact with. As a founder of the DuPage County Funeral Directors Association, Jack served as President in 1959.
Jack received an award from the FAA as President of the DuPage County Funeral Directors for his pioneering work on the Westmont/Hinsdale TWA plane crash in 1961, up until then the largest plane crash in the U.S. Many of the procedures he, his father, Fred Brust and John Geils developed are still in use today in airline disasters.
Jack loved his children and grandchildren. He owned a summer home in Hayward that hosted many of his friends and his children’s friends, who considered him a second father.
Jack sold his businesses to his sons and retired in 1997. He has lived full time in Hayward for over 15 years. He was active in his senior golf group there. Jack attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayward.
He was an avid fisherman (both salt and fresh water). He was a gemologist and gem appraiser. He was the former Indian Merit Badge counselor for DuPage Boy Scouts. Jack was a life member of the NRA. He was an assistant manager at the old DuPage Theatre when he started his business. He was a water-skier, antique collector, model train enthusiast, boater, avid reader and he loved dogs.
He played poker once a month with a group of high school friends for over 70 years. Jack was a world traveler and loved exploring other cultures. He camped and fished in Canada every year from 1947-2008. Jack loved the Florida Keys and was a member of the Marathon Yacht Club.

SYLVESTER COSTELLO
Sylvester Robert Costello, 76, a longtime resident of Lombard, IL, died April 20, 2020 from complications of COVID-19.
He was a devoted husband to Dianne Regan Costello (deceased) and a wonderful father to Gina (Matthew) Konkler, Cherise (Patrick) Slattery and Peter (Isabel) Costello. He was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren ages 2 to 31, and one great grandson.
Sylvester, nickname “Sal,” was a successful entrepreneur in the Western Suburbs his entire life. He enjoyed his family, gardening, and was an outdoor sportsman. He will be greatly missed and always remembered.
There will be a private burial and then, when it is safe to gather, a funeral Mass and celebration of life.

ROBERT S. HOLST
Robert S. “Bob” Holst, age 84 of Lombard, returned to his Heavenly Father on May 2, 2020, after a short battle with Glioblastoma Multuforme, GBM. He was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Melbourne, Florida, to the late Esther K. Wideman and Arthur Holst.
He is survived by the love of his life, Carolyn L. Holst, nee Palcer; his cherished children, Mark W. Holst, David R. (Heather Nelson) Holst, Julie A. (Larry) Stiers, Laura L. (Tony) Wilkinson; grandchildren Madeline Stiers, Abigail Wilkinson, Katherine Wilkinson, and Calvin Holst; sister-in-law Patricia (the late Chester) Biel; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his twin daughters Katherine M. Holst and Teresa M. Holst, and Carolyn’s parents Bernice S. and Louis Palcer.
Bob was an Air Force veteran, and a drywall contractor for many years. He loved to watch sports, especially his grandchildren in softball, soccer and track; and listen to the music of their violin and singing. His relaxation came with gardening and his Koi pond in his backyard with his wife.

Ernest “Ernie” Jonas, age 86, of Lombard, died April 27 at Atria of Glen Ellyn.
Ernie was the loving husband of the late Barbara, nee Ritenour; loving father of Jerriann (Michael) Ross of Highland Park, Steven (JoAnne) of Carol Stream; fond grandfather of Chrissy Jonas of Naperville, Daniel of Carol Stream, Jason Ross of Missouri, Rachel Jonas of Carol Stream; dear brother of Margaret Modrich of Florida and the late Henry; fond uncle 13; brother-in-law of Normal (Bill) VandeMerkt of North Aurora and Diane (Jim) Todoerud of Indiana.
Ernie was preceded in death by his nephew, Scott.
Ernie was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. He had lived in Lombard for 60 years. Ernie retired from Western Electric.

Frances A. Stephenson, nee Lamme, age 96, of Oak Brook, formerly of Lombard for 66 years, passed away April 28, 2020.
Memorial Services are pending in summer after COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
Frances is survived by her loving children, Katherine (Michael) Kennedy of Lombard, Carol (Dean) Craig of Aurora, Michael of Arizona and Jan (Leo) Lewis of Lombard; her cherished grandchildren, Carrie (Brian) Blonigen of Downers Grove, Kelly (Ryan) Stack of Naperville, Michael (Kristin) Kennedy II of Lombard, Patrick (Maureen) Kennedy of Lombard, Sean (Joy) Kennedy of Texas, Matthew (Katelyn) Kennedy of Lombard and Elizabeth (James) Gaddis of Oswego; and her 14 great-grandchildren; aunt and great-aunt of many.
Frances is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John A; her dear son, Jeffrey; and her 3 sisters.
Frances worked for State Bank of Lombard until 1977, and also enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church. Frances taught Sunday School and participated in Bible Study. She was a member of the Women’s Circle at church.
Frances served on several committees including The Red Hat Club, the PEO, Friends of the Library, and was a member and past president of Lombard Garden Club. She was also an avid bridge player.
