The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
March 29
Rafael Martinez, 18, of Melrose Park, was charged with aggravated assault in the 400 block of N. York at around 7 p.m. Police said officers responded to the above location for the report of a road rage incident. According to police, the victim stated that Martinez had exited his vehicle and showed a knife to the victim.
Criminal trespass, criminal damage
April 1
Abraham Diaz, 29, of Addison, was charged criminal trespass to a vehicle, depositing material on a highway, no valid driver’s license and disobeying a stop sign in the 100 block of N. Geneva at around 10:17 a.m. According to police, a victim reported his landscaping vehicle was stolen from the above location. The vehicle was later located in Addison, and police said Diaz was taken into custody.
Upon further investigation it was learned the victim had withheld information and knew who had taken the vehicle. The victim was issued a citation for disorderly conduct-obstruction.
March 28
Brenner J. Dayton, 18, of Elmhurst, was charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle in the 300 block of S. Fairview at around 7:57 p.m. According to police, a victim stated that following an argument Dayton took her vehicle without permission.
March 26
A City Public Works employee observed tire marks on the grass parkway in the 500 block of W. Fay at around 12:45 p.m. The tire markings appeared to be at least several weeks old.

March 31
A victim told police that while he was driving near Monroe and York, a rock caused damage to the vehicle’s windshield and hood while he was passing a digging site.

March 31
Police said that subsequent to an investigative stop in the 100 block of N. York at around 6:03 p.m., a suspect was found to be driving while under the influence of narcotics. The suspect was later transported by medics to Elmhurst Hospital. Unlawful possession of a controlled substance and DUI-drugs charges are pending.
March 28
Anthony McCoy, 32, of Chicago, was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol, unlawful possession of cannabis in a vehicle, driving while license suspended, tinted windows and no insurance, subsequent to the investigation of a suspicious vehicle near Spring and Butterfield Rds. at around 5:29 a.m.
Fleeing, eluding
March 30
Police said that subsequent to an extra patrol near N. Palmer and Schiller at around 4:31 p.m., a reporting officer observed a suspect exit a store, enter her vehicle, and exit the parking lot at a high rate of speed. A reporting officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle but the vehicle fled. The suspect was later located, placed under arrest, and transported to the police station. The suspect was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for a mental evaluation. Charges and an arrest warrant for aggravated fleeing and eluding, speeding, illegal transportation of alcohol, failure to yield, failure to signal and improper lane usage were approved and signed by a judge.

Jan. 16-March 31
A reporting officer met with a complainant in the 400 block of W. Wrightwood who told police she was sent several checks from companies between the above dates that owed them money; however, the checks never arrived. A second round of checks were sent, which were also never received. All checks were cancelled and no money was lost.
March 29
Police said officers responded to the 600 block of Lorraine at around 10:59 a.m. for a report of a found shell casing. The complainant stated she found a bullet near the back door of her residence. The reporting officer located a 9mm bullet, which did not appear to have made contact with any part of the home prior to falling. Officers checked the area for damage but were met with no results. The bullet was collected and placed into evidence.

March 30-March 31
Attempted identity theft was reported in the 100 block of E. Butterfield. A victim told police that an unknown suspect attempted to cash two checks that belonged to the business. The unknown suspect attempted to cash both checks via mobile checking, but the transactions were denied and the account was frozen.
Jan. 30-March 31
Identity theft was reported in the 700 block of S. Parkside. A victim told police that an unknown suspect made three purchases using her Sam’s Club business account and bank credit card between the above dates.
March 18-March 30
Theft of labor or services was reported in the 800 block of N. York. A reporting officer met with the complainant who stated the suspect used a non-existent billing address to rent a vehicle from their company between the above dates. The company had not received payment from the suspect and she was asked to return that vehicle; however, she did not do so. All efforts to make contact with the suspect have yielded no results. This case is pending investigation.
March 29
Retail theft was reported at a store in the 600 block of N. York at around 12:04 p.m. A complainant told police that the suspects left the store with unpaid merchandise. The suspects then entered an occupied vehicle waiting outside and drove out of the parking lot with the merchandise. While en route, an officer located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspects then fled from the officer at a high rate of speed. The case is pending investigation.
March 28
Theft was reported at a store in the 600 block of N. York at around 4:50 p.m. A complainant told police that a male suspect in his 30s exited the store with a full cart of groceries and did not pay for the merchandise. The suspect entered a blue Ford F-150 pickup and left the scene. Attempts to contact the suspect were unsuccessful. An investigation is pending.
March 26
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 200 block of Melrose at around 8:25 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked silver Mercedes-Benz sedan while it was parked in his driveway overnight. The suspect removed paperwork from the center console and scattered it inside of the vehicle. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.

Identity theft was reported in the 200 block of S. West at around 12:32 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect removed cash from his bank account without his authorization.

Police said Stephen Lacy, 25, of Clarendon Hills, was found to have a valid warrant out of the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office in the 100 block of N. Robert Palmer around 3:10 a.m.
