Dale E. Dorman, of Villa Park, passed away recently at the age of 82. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Beloved husband of Kay nee Gaughan. James Floyd, age 92, of Crown Point, Indiana, formerly of York Center, Lombard.
Beloved husband of Phyllis Floyd, nee Lyons; loving father of Kathleen (Lawrence) Ladner, the late David, the late James and the late Susan Floyd; devoted grandfather of James (Ashley) Teniya; fond brother of the late Thomas and the late Kenneth Floyd; uncle of many nieces and nephews; he was blessed by the lord with many extended family members, and will be especially missed by the Lam family and the Das family.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 29, at Knollcrest Funeral Home. Interment Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.

GLORIA C. LINO
Gloria C. Lino, nee Favarulo, age 90, of Lombard, died January 21, 2020.
Gloria was the beloved wife of the late John C.; dear sister of the late Frank Favarulo and the late Marie (Gerry) Christopher; and four nieces and one nephew, and many great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, January 25, at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Gloria had been a resident of Lombard since 1962. She grew up in Chicago. Gloria was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She retired from Illinois Bell in 1985. Gloria was a member of Sacred Heart Church. Gloria’s passion was animals, especially her beloved pet Dachshunds.

DR. LINDA J. SHAVER-GLEASON
Linda Joann Shaver-Gleason passed away on January 14, 2020, in Santa Barbara, California, assassinated by cancer after five years of evasion.
Linda Shaver was born on June 22, 1983, to Patricia and Carl Shaver of Lombard. She attended Green Valley and Madison elementary schools, Glenn Westlake Middle School, and Glenbard East High School, graduating summa cum laude in 2001.
Linda began piano lessons at the age of 4, and began to play viola at the age of 10. She attended Lawrence University and the Chicago College of Performing Arts (Roosevelt University), receiving a Bachelor’s degree in viola performance in 2005.
Linda married Christopher Gleason of San Diego, California, on July 16, 2005, two years to the day after they met. They moved to the Santa Barbara area, where she took viola instruction from Helen Callus at the University of California, Santa Barbara, receiving a Master’s degree in Viola Performance. She then went into the field of Musicology, receiving another Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in 2016.
Linda was first diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2015, leading her away from a career in academia to one of writing about music and providing program notes for a number of musical organizations in southern California. After her diagnosis, she began a blog, “Not Another Music History Cliche!,” which received worldwide attention and praise for debunking long-standing myths about music, musicians, performers, and public impressions.
The blog led to many speaking engagements in the United States and Europe. She competed in “Jeopardy!” immediately after completing a cycle of brain radiation.
Linda is survived by her husband, Chris; her son, Linus James; her sister, Ellen (Richard Krasin) of Germantown Hills, Illinois; her parents; her grandmother, Shirley Shaver of Grand Haven, Michigan; four nieces; and two nephews.
A service of music and memories will be held on Saturday, April 18, at 11:00 at the First United Methodist Church, 155 South Main Street in Lombard. Inurnment is private.
LaVERNE E. SMITH
LaVerne E. Smith, nee Stelter, age 86, lifelong resident of Lombard, died January 19 at her home.
LaVerne was the loving wife of the late Roger P. “Codge”; dear mother of Barbara (James) Gorvad of California, Elizabeth (Paul) Sanko of Lombard, Roger P., Jr. of Lombard and Michael John Smith of California; Fond Grandmother of Bob (Maria) Sanko of Lombard and Stuart of Lombard; dear sister of Emily Bonette of California, Audrey (Dr. Anthony) Cooper of California; the late Henry Stelter, Sr., the late Leonard Stelter, the late Virginia Seiler, and the late Marilyn Troyke; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was the darling daughter of the late Henry F. D. and Hattie Stelter of Lombard.
Funeral Services were held Friday, January 24, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 215 S. Lincoln Ave., Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace.
LaVerne was born at home in Lombard at 349 W. Harrison. She was Baptized and Confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a lifelong member there. She graduated from St. John’s School and was a 1950 Graduate of Glenbard Township High School. In 1948, LaVerne won the State Baton Twirling Contest.
LaVerne was very active at St. John’s, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, played handbells, was a former choir member and a former member of the Stewardship Board. She was a 20-year volunteer at Walcamp as an Outdoor Education Leader, a 50-year AAL volunteer and volunteered at ESSE.
LaVerne was also active in the community. In 1975, LaVerne opened the Lombard Community Senior Center and served for over 40 years as its Director. She was the 1975 Lombard Woman of the Year. She also was a Girl Scout leader.
LaVerne enjoyed traveling and playing bridge. She was a friend to all, including all the Lombard Seniors.
