The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.
Assault, battery
Jan. 18
A reporting officer spoke to complainants at an entertainment center in the 300 block of W. Lake who stated that an unknown suspect pushed one of the victims against a wall and struck him in the chest. The unknown suspect then threw the other victim to the ground and held him down. The suspect was described as a white male with brown hair and beard, between 30 and 40 years old. This case is pending investigation.
Jan. 16
Police said officers and Northlake medics responded to the Sam’s Club in Northlake, where Northlake officers were with an allegedly intoxicated suspect. The suspect stated she was battered at the intersection of North and York in Elmhurst. The suspect changed her story and the location of the fight several times and would not provide officers with names of the suspects involved in the fight. The suspect had no visible injuries, but was transported to Gottlieb Hospital due to her alleged intoxicated state and other health related issues.

Jan. 16-Jan. 17
Joshua N. Russell, 31, of Arlington Heights, was charged with criminal trespass to property and served with a no-trespass notice at Immaculate Conception in the 100 block of W. Arthur at around 1:47 a.m. Police said officers responded to a report of a suspicious person who was inside of the school. Officers located the suspect in a mechanical room. The suspect advised he was inside of the school because he is currently homeless and was trying to stay warm, according to police.

Jan. 23
Police said officers responded for the report of a domestic battery n the 100 block of Oakland Grove at around 9:47 p.m. A complainant told police that subsequent to an argument, the suspect inadvertently struck her with a closed fist. The suspect stated the complainant had been drinking and was being disruptive but nothing physical happened. Due to conflicting stories and no visible injuries, no arrests were made. The suspect left the home for the evening.
Jan. 20
Police said that subsequent to a verbal argument in the 200 block of S. Route 83 at around 6:03 p.m., the suspect and her mother began pushing each other in their car. There were no visible injuries and the suspect exited the vehicle stating she would call a cab for a ride home.
Jan. 1-Jan. 17
A complainant at a cemetery in the 500 block of E. Lake told police that an unknown suspect forced entry through a window of an office building in the cemetery sometime between the above dates. The suspect did not appear to have taken anything. This case is pending investigation.

Karl Obien, 38, of Darien, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Riverside at around 12:07 a.m.

Jan. 21
A victim in the 200 block of N. York told police at around 11:36 a.m. that while at work, she answered an incoming phone call from a male speaking with a foreign accent. The suspect then changed his accent to English and made obscene statements to the victim.

Jan. 22
Peter M. Macari, 23, of Bartlett, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license revoked and disobeying a traffic control signal, while Alyssa M. Kessel, 27, of Glendale Heights, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Riverside at around 1:34 a.m. Police said Macari and Kessel were both found to be in possession of several hypodermic needles and heroin residue.

Jonathan McKay-Burrow, 22, of Berwyn, was issue citations for possession of adult-use cannabis in a vehicle and tinted windows subsequent to a traffic stop near River Glen and North at around 10:43 a.m.
Jack Smith, 29, of Maywood, was issued citations for possession of adult-use cannabis in a vehicle and improper lighting subsequent to a traffic stop near Fullerton and York at around 1:31 a.m.

A complainant at a business in the 900 block of Oaklawn told police that several checks, which were said to have been mailed to the business, were never received. The complainant learned that the checks reflected an altered name and had been cashed by the suspect. The complainant advised that they do not employ anyone with the suspect’s name.

A vehicle was reported stolen in the 800 block of N. York sometime between the above dates. Police said an unknown suspect used a stolen ID and credit card to rent a 2019 silver Chevrolet Malibu from a car rental agency. The vehicle information was collected and the car was entered into LEADS as stolen.
Jan. 20
Yolanda Casas, 43, of Aurora, was charged with retail theft at a local store in the 600 block of N. York at around 8:29 a.m. Police said a complainant stated that Casas exited the store with unpaid merchandise.
Vehicle theft was reported in the 900 block of S. Cedar at around 11:17 a.m. A victim told police that her husband left her vehicle in the driveway with the keys in the ignition. An unknown suspect entered the vehicle and fled the area east on Butterfield Road. Officers checked the surrounding area with no results. The vehicle was located abandoned in Chicago later that day.

Laura Sandora, 48, of Westchester, was charged with felony retail theft, burglary, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 4:16 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a report of a retail theft, Sandora was found to be in possession of stolen merchandise. She also was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and a white powdery substance, according to police.

Residential burglary was reported in the 100 block of Fellows Court at around 4:31 p.m. A reporting officer spoke to a complainant who stated three of her son’s friends had entered her unlocked apartment. The complainant later discovered her son’s items were missing. The complainant is unwilling to sign complaints.
Jan. 17
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 200 block of E. Cayuga at around 2:40 p.m. A complainant told police that while walking his dog, he observed a black Infiniti with tinted windows stop alongside a red Chevy Silverado that was parked in front of the above location. A suspect described as a black male was observed peering around the rear of the truck carrying a plastic bucket and another unknown item. The vehicle then fled the area. An investigation is pending.
Jan. 16-Jan. 17
Theft of services was reported in the 100 block of W. Butterfield. A complainant told police that she works for a taxi company and transported the suspect, who exited the taxi and told the victim that he will return with the money that he owed for the ride. The suspect called the victim a few times, stated he would bring the money soon, and subsequently stopped answering his phone. Investigation is pending.

Theft was reported at a coffee shop in the 600 block of N. York at around 12:55 p.m. A victim told police that while at the shop, she placed her handbag on her chair. The victim later discovered her wallet was missing from her purse. The victim contacted her bank, which reported numerous charges at Best Buy and Wal-Mart. Further investigation is pending.

Identity theft was reported in the 600 block of Fern between the above dates. A victim told police that she received a text from whom she believed to be her cell phone provider. The text with a link stated she needed to update her payment information or her phone would be shut off. The victim opened the link and sent her PIN number, credit card and personal information. The victim now believes it was a scam and has canceled her account information.

Deceptive practice was reported in the 800 block of Saylor between the above dates. A victim told police that she sent gift cards to an unknown suspect in an apparent telephone scam. An investigation is pending.
Dec. 22-Jan. 15
Retail theft was reported at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 sometime between the above dates. A complainant told police that while reviewing video surveillance, he discovered two retail thefts and believes the suspects are responsible for both thefts. An investigation is pending.
Jan. 11-Jan. 13
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 100 block of S. Lawndale. A reporting officer was informed the victim’s property was found inside a recovered stolen auto in Glenview. The victim told police that an unknown suspect entered his unlocked vehicle and removed miscellaneous property, which was returned.

Forgery was reported at a bank in the 100 block of S. York at around 1:57 p.m. A complainant reported an alleged embezzlement by the suspect. Pending investigation.

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 200 block of E. Cayuga. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered her Mercury Rainier and removed the garage door opener. The victim is unsure if her vehicle was locked.
Nov. 15-Dec. 27
Theft was reported at a gas station in the 400 block of N. York sometime between the above dates. A complainant told police that an employee had been seen on camera pocketing cash from customers in exchange for store merchandise. The suspect admitted to taking the cash over the past few months. An investigation is pending.
Violation of an order of protection
Jan. 22
Jesse James Clark, 25, of Elmhurst, was charged with violation of an order of protection in the 300 block of W. Grand at around 12:25 p.m.
