Person knocks at door, asks for change for $100 bill
Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 400 block of Ridgeland at around 12:24 p.m. on Jan. 22. A suspect, described as a white male, around 50 years old, five feet, 11 inches and 180 pounds with a medium build, an unshaven face, wearing an Atlanta Braves baseball cap with red bill and black top, had knocked on the complainant’s front door. The suspect stated he had been working a few blocks away and had broken a pipe; he requested to run the water in the complainant’s home. The suspect offered to pay for the damages with a $100 bill, but said he would need change. The complainant advised he did not have any change for a $100 bill so the suspect left in a dark grey Chevrolet pickup. The complainant is not missing any money or valuables.
Drone seen outside bedroom window
Police said officers responded to 500 block of N. Kenilworth on Jan. 21 at around 5:33 a.m. for the report of a suspicious incident in which the complainant observed a drone flying outside of his bedroom window.
Fleeing accident, victim claims shot was fired at him
Police said officers responded to a vehicle crash on Jan. 19 at around 11:34 a.m. near Butterfield and York, where the driver was seen running away on foot. The reporting officer located the victim who said that the unknown vehicle had stopped and someone inside had fired a gunshot at him. The victim was found to be driving while license revoked and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving while license revoked. An additional investigation is pending.
Foot chase results in arrest for Addison dept.
On Jan. 16, a reporting officer assisted with checking for a stolen vehicle out of Addison near Route 83 and Lake at around 9:59 a.m. The reporting officer located the vehicle and performed a traffic stop. The suspect subsequently fled the traffic stop, lost control of the vehicle, and fled on foot. Responding officers set up a perimeter, located the suspect, and took him into custody after a brief foot pursuit. The suspect was released to the custody of the Addison Police Department.
Would-be victim too smart to transfer money
On Jan. 16, a complainant in the 200 block of S. Kenilworth told police that she received several phone calls from a suspect who was impersonating an Illinois State Police employee. The suspect told the complainant that he was investigating an identity theft / drug case where they believed she was a victim. The complainant was instructed to transfer all her money into a Social Security Administration account. The complainant became suspicious of the situation and did not transfer any money.
More incidents with unlocked cars
On Jan. 20, there were two incidents of suspects entering unlocked vehicles were reported in the 300 block of W. Van Buren at around 12:45 p.m. In both instances, items within the vehicle were disturbed, but nothing was reported missing.
On Jan. 23, another vehicle was reported stolen in the 700 block of S. Kent. A victim told police an unknown suspect entered an unlocked car in his driveway and used the garage door remote control to open the garage door. The suspect then entered the garage and removed the victim’s vehicle. The victim had left the key fob inside. The vehicle was later recovered abandoned in South Holland.
