Saturday, Jan. 4
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., ages 5 thru adult are invited to Lizzadro Museum, 1220 Kensington Rd. Oak Brook, for Dinosaur Day, held annually on the first Saturday of the new year at Lizzadro. Drop in at the Museum and learn more about fossils with hands-on activities. See and touch real fossils, put together 3-D puzzles of dinosaur bones and make your own fossil imprint to take home. A drop-in game with prizes will be offered throughout the day with fossil prizes to take home. $8 per person, museum members free. No reservations required. Monday, Jan. 6
The Elmhurst Garden Club will meet at Wilder Mansion beginning at 11:30 a.m. with a members lunch, a business meeting at 12:15 and a guest speaker program open to the public at 1 p.m. The program will feature Glenn Grosch, certified Master Gardener and Arborist, instructor in the University of Illinois Master Gardener Continuing Education Program, who will present “Starting from Seed.” Join us as the Club plans for its 25th anniversary of the annual Garden Walk & Faire. - At 2 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum presents Train Songs of America with
folk musician Dean Milano, who will bring an engaging musical program of train-themed songs from America’s past—both well-known favorites and a few obscure selections as well. The program includes a slideshow featuring photos and artwork of trains throughout history. Program takes place in the Education Center, 120 E. - At 2 p.m. the Elmhurst Symphony present “Mozart Magic” at Mayslake Peabody Estate. Tours of the Mayslake mansion will be available for $5 per person from 1-2 p.m. before the concert. Saturday, Jan. 18
Beginning at 7 p.m., the Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry is hosting its second annual trivia night at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 537 S. York Road. Doors open at 7 p.m. and trivia begins at 8 p.m. Includes split-the-pot raffle, prizes for winners, light dinner, cash bar. Tickets available at eyfp.org, are $30 per person, $300/table of ten. Proceeds benefit EYFP.
Sunday, Jan. 26
- At 2 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum presents Chicagoland: City and Suburbs of the Railroad Age. Join Dr. Ann Durkin Keating, Professor of History at North Central College, as she discusses the influence of the railroad in the 19th century in northeastern Illinois through a slide lecture. Dr. Keating is an accomplished author of many publications and she is co-editor of the Encyclopedia of Chicago. Program takes place in the Education Center and registration is required.
