Saturday, Nov. 23

Elmhurst’s Holiday Kick-Off and Tree-Lighting

From 4-7 p.m. join the Hometown Holiday Kick Off in City Centre Fountain Pla-za, where Santa & Mrs. Claus will join Elmhurst Mayor Steve Morley to offi-cially throw the switch on the community Christmas tree. Bring out the camera and join the fun at the Holiday Plaza display and meet your favor-ite frozen Princess, treats, hot chocolate, musical sounds of the seasons by a DJ and much more.

 

 

Friday, Nov. 22

From 6-7 p.m., the Spring Road Business Association will host its annual Christmas tree-lighting at the Gazebo by the Prairie Path. From 6-6:30 p.m., enjoy festive Christmas carols performed by local school children. At 6:30 p.m., Santa Claus will arrive aboard a fire engine. Once he arrives, the tree will be lit and everyone can enjoy hot choc-olate and cookies while visit-ing with Santa.

 

Saturday, Nov. 23

From 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., the Elmhurst Art Museum presents a lecture called “Against Imagism.” Learn where did the Imagist term came from and its influence on art in Chicago. Led by Robert Cozzolino, the Patrick and Aimee Butler Curator at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Sponsored by Terra Foundation for American Art. Free with Museum admission. Sunday, Nov. 24

From 1 – 2 p.m., the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 Cottage Hill Ave., will host a tour of the McCormick House, where guests can explore the design and history of Mies van der Rohe’s McCormick House led by museum docents and others. Free with Museum admission. Info: elmhurstartmuseum.com.

  • The Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot steps off at 9 a.m. from Park Ave. & Cottage Hill. To register, visit dangibbonsturkeytrot.org. Fee is $35 per runner before Nov. 24, $40 after.
  • The Elmhurst Rotary will host its 26th consecutive complimentary Thanksgiving Dinner at the Diplomat West at 681 W. North Ave. The event is open to the whole community. Features the York High School jazz com-bo and entertainment by Ma-gician Bob James. Info: 630-833-3940.

 

Wednesday, Dec. 4

  • From 3:30-8 p.m., Special Kids Day’s Visit with Santa at Wilder Mansion. Children of all ages with special needs and their families are invited to this free event to meet Santa, enjoy face-painting, music, cookies and goodies and much more. Reservations not needed. Info: skd.org.
  • From 5 – 7 p.m. in East Lob-by of Elmhurst Hospital, 155 E. Brush Hill Rd., the annual Love Lights Tree Lighting and Holiday Reception will be held. The event will fea-ture The CoverGirls Violin Show, carolers, hot chocolate and sweet treats, and at 5:30 p.m., the lighting of the trees in the Central Garden at Elmhurst Hospital’s Main Campus. Friday, Dec. 6

  • The Elmhurst Memorial Hospital (EMH) Foundation will host its 43rd Annual Reindeer Route Housewalk, with two sessions – 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 6 – 9 p.m. It will feature five Elmhurst homes decorated for the holidays by local florists. Tickets are $30 in advance and can be pur-chased through 3 p.m. on Dec. 5 at elmhurstfounda-tion.org/events or at Bread & Butter Home, Phillip’s Flow-ers, Carousel Flowers, The Uptown Shop, The Wild Rose Floral & Gift Shop at Elmhurst Hospital. On the day of the Housewalk, tickets will be available for $40 at Guaranteed Rate, 115 W.   • At 4 p.m. and at 7 p.m., Elmhurst College will present the annual Festival of Lessons & Carols at Hammerschmidt Chapel on the campus.   • At 6:30 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum celebrates the sixth annual Jolly Old St. Nicholas Concert at the Yorkfield Presbyterian Church, located at 1099 So, York. Kids invited to wear pajamas. Saturday, Dec. 7

  • At 9:30 a.m., York Theatre will present a free holiday showing of the movie “Elf” (rated PG), starring Will Fer-rell. Doors open at 9 a.m. and there will be free Elf hats for all the kids, while supplies last. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.,

head across the street to City Centre Fountain Plaza, where Santa will appear.

  • From 3-4:30 p.m., Jingle Fest will be held at Courts Plus. Enjoy games, dancing, snacks and a visit from Santa. Create holiday ornaments and other craft projects. Admis-sion is $8 Courts Plus mem-bers/$15 non-members. Visit epd.org to register or call (630) 993-8902.

On Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. and Dec. 8 at 3 p.m., Spirito Singers will hold it Winter Concert, Balulalow ~ Cradle Lullabies at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Rd. in Elmhurst.The concert will feature the high school Bravura Ensemble, the 5th-8th grade Ragazze Ensemble and a performance by the Men of Spirito! Saturday, Dec. 14

  • At 9:30 a.m., York Theatre will present a free holiday movie “The Polar Express.” Doors open at 9 a.m. and there will be free conductor hats for all the kids, while supplies last. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., head across the street to City Centre Fountain Pla-za, where Santa will appear. • From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Spring Road will host its Sleigh Rides & Ice Sculp-tures event. There will be old-fashioned sleigh rides (or wagon rides, in the event of no snow), as well as hot chocolate and cookies. Santa will also be on hand at the Gazebo. Info: springroad.com.

 

Sunday, Dec. 15

At 3 p.m. in Hammerschmidt Chapel on the campus of Elmhurst College, the Elmhurst Choral Union and Orchestra present “The Mu-sic of Christmas.” Features Vivaldi’s Gloria, a jazz-influenced mix of carols, music from the movie “Home Alone,” and a carol sing-along. A pre-concert lecture by composer David DeVasto begins at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors and $10 for youth ages 7-22. Ongoing programs:
